beach day
Leo's pov
Of course the Poseidon kids dragged us out for a beach day even though it was October. With a mixed group of five teens/preteens that all had baby seal eyes, everyone eventually gave in to the combined might of the sea's children. No just wasn't an option, especially since four of them were vampires. On top of that, the only girl was both incredibly beautiful and deadly. Add that to her intelligence and scheming mind, and the result was one ridiculously dangerous teenager that had the looks to draw guys in,and the skill to kill them easily with no weapons necessary. It was scary to think about. Giving in was much, much safer. Girls may be a rarity among children of Poseidon, but they are often some of the most powerful.
Even though it was October,Raven and Hae-Joon knew the locations of some exotic tropical islands that were empty so we could use our powers without anybody noticing. I swear,at least one of the Rhyoo siblings is a spy or something like that, with all the information they have. A vampire spy. That would be really cool.
Cue the ride on the giant hell hound. Raven brought along her surfboard,it was one of the shorter, sleeker ones. When I asked what it was for,she stared at me like I was crazy and replied with just one word."Surfing." I mean,no Styx Sherlock.
When we got to the beach,Raven lay down on a towel spread out over the sand. She said, very simply, that she was waiting for someone. Way to be cryptic.
Everyone else headed towards the water. All of the girls were wearing bikinis. Well, all of them except Raven. She had a simple black one piece on. Her muscles were defined against the thin fabric. Every scar stood out. That girl was practically all bone and muscle. I blamed her genetics since her brothers were relatively similar, especially Hae-Joon. Raven's time in the forges might be a contributing factor as well.
I stayed behind,a prank in mind. I dumped a gross mixture of sand and seaweed in Raven's face and ran. She immediately went up in pursuit. The girl was chasing me while cursing at him in a strange mixture of Greek, Korean, Latin,Spanish, and a couple of other languages. Meanwhile, yours truly here was running and screaming in a mix of Spanish and English, begging Frank,Jason,Nico, and Percy to help me
They sided with Raven, probably because she would have killed them otherwise. Either that,or they just didn't want to get out of the water.
"You know, for a blind girl she's finding Leo surprisingly easily," Annabeth commented from her perch on the rocky ledge near the shore.
Nico grunted. "Raven can actually run much faster. She just wants to prolong the chase. You know, kind of like the way killer whales play with their prey before eating them." Wow,thanks a lot death breath. Your knowledge of marine mammals astounds me. And that's really reassuring to know that your best friend is going to toy with me for a while before she kills me.
Eventually,I got tired and started to slow down. When that happened, Raven picked me up like I was a sack of potatoes and she threw me into the water effortlessly. Something brushed against my leg,and I immediately kicked out. Just a minute later,a blond, blue skinned, blue scaled, blue eyed mermaid that looked very different from the ones that I saw at Camp Fish-Blood(I'm still calling it that.)surfaced next to me. Then I did the most manly thing possible in such a situation. I yelped.
Apparently that was funny to the mermaid. She giggled and said,"Calm down,it was just my tail."
Now that I wasn't freaking out,I got a better look at the girl. Her eyes had a mischievous gleam in them. When I saw that I knew instinctively that it was the beginning of a long, strange friendship with the fish girl. Her tail was what you would expect to see, classic style V shaped fins.
Raven stood up from her spot on the sand. She waved, and the mermaid waved back. "Hi Aunt Raven!" Aunt Raven?!
"Hey Calliste. Glad you could make it." Raven ran into the surf and seafoam, diving under the waves at the last minute, like a sea lion would. When the vampire resurfaced, she was no longer the Raven we were familiar with.
Her skin was a very dark cobalt blue, her eyes and hair black as usual. But the major difference was the tail. Instead of the fin being V shaped, the bottom edge was longer than the top and wickedly curved. Built for speed and power. The tail itself was the same color as Raven's hair, a gleaming dark black that almost looked blue, like a starless night sky. And though it was as long and slender and graceful as Calliste's,it somehow seemed more powerful. Then again, didn't Raven always seem unusually powerful? The muscles help.
Percy gaped. "Oh please," Raven chided. "All children of Poseidon have a mer form. I'll teach you how to activate it sometime." She flicked her tail. "See ya!"
In a moment, Raven,Calliste, and Hae-Joon were off to talk about fish person stuff I guess.
Hae-Joon's pov
Raven was being difficult and hostile as usual while we talked in our little underwater hide out.
Calliste, observing this, said, "Maybe you would be more bearable if you found a mate. "
Raven shook her head."Don't even think about it," she warned.
I took Calliste's side. "You know, maybe our niece is right. Maybe you would be more bearable if you found someone. You know that overage unbonded ones tend to be pretty aggressive and independent."
She growled. Not hissed, but growled. I knew that she was kind of wild, but not to this extent. I guess that means that Raven is a good actress. I've got to add that to my list. "And what if that is simply the way I am?"my sister inquired.
I had no answer for her. But Raven didn't stop there. "You and Calliste already have your own mates, but I'll never find mine. It's been too long."
I watched as she left the cave, speeding up until she broke the surface of the water, transforming instantly due to years of practice. I did nothing as Raven flew off,but when she was gone,I muttered,"Oh great, now I made her mad. She's probably going back to the underworld. Last time it took six years to convince her to come back to the surface." True story.
Calliste bit her lip, fiddling with the hem of her sea silk dress, and I knew that there was something she wasn't telling me. But she didn't say anything, she just gulped and said, "You better go. Your friends will be wondering where you are. "
I nodded slowly, not pursuing the matter. I knew that Calliste would tell me when she was ready. Or better yet, she'd tell her legendary aunt. My dear crazy sister, the one that had just disappeared to the underworld. Why a child of the sea would want to go there,I don't know. But she would be back. Eventually.
