The Clave
Hey,can you please read my new book, The Forgotten Children? Please? *gives you baby seal eyes*
Raven's pov
This was it. Robert had alerted the clave, telling them that Alec was marrying a downworlder and was now immortal. The scum.Alec felt sick with worry. I could sense it.He thought he would have his marks stripped for sure.
The clave was meeting to decide what to do with them. Magnus, uncharacteristically grim, nevertheless reassured Alec that all would be okay, and that someone who could help them was coming to the meeting.
Who was that someone? Why,me of course.
Percy's pov
All of us went to some shadow hunter meeting about the glitter dude and the Lightworm guy getting married and the second dude becoming immortal. I didn't see what all the fuss was about. They could just skip the long, boring, pointless meeting and let them get married. They live happily ever after, end of story!
Raven wasn't with us. Where was she? The Asian sparkle dude with the spiky rainbow hair,I think his name was Magnus, was her friend. I didn't even really know the guy!
Just as they were getting ready to start, the doors swung open soundlessly and a figure hidden by a hooded black cloak entered the room. The person-or warlock or werewolf or fairy, you get the idea,at that point I wasn't sure- pushed back their hood. I almost got a heart attack.
No,it wasn't some hideously deformed monster. It wasn't a demon either, unless demons looked like my sister. Yup,it was Raven, dramatic as ever. But the thing was,her hair was rainbow colored! I mean, she hates wearing anything other than black or dark blue! Why the Hades would she decide to wear color in public?! I guess that it was supposed to be some sort of statement.
"I have come to attest to the fact that the immortality was an absolute necessity. I turned Alec immortal myself, after all.I also have a goddess here that believes that they should be together." Aphrodite swept into the room.
"Very well, said Robert, his voice tight, probably due to the fact that Raven insulted him last time.
Instead of speaking,Raven went up and gave something to the clave. It was a silver ring with willow tree and delicate feather pattern on the edges. The inquisitor looked at it skeptically. "This is your proof? Just a ring?"
Raven shook her head. "It is not really my proof, and it is not just any ring."A strange look was visible in her sightless eyes for just a second. I had to wonder if I had imagined it. "It is the ring of the lost family of shadow hunters, the Rhyoos. I was the first and last of that line, the only one to ascend. I am Raven Rhyoo,or Rhyoo Sunghye, also known as Raven or Sunghye Nightwillow."
"Impossible!"
"Not impossible, simply improbable," Raven corrected. "It is quite possible, especially considering my ancestry." She had a point there. Our family tree was so twisted, finding out that my sister was a shadow hunter was like other people finding out that one of their grandparents or great grandparents were once in the army. Pretty common.
"If you want to be sure," Raven continued, "call up warlock Tessa Gray and former silent brother,Jem Carstair. I made their acquaintance at the London Institute, 130 years ago." Two people in the crowd nodded. I assumed that they were the people Raven had mentioned.
"Do you have any other proof?"
"Well,if Jem,Tessa, and Aphrodite's word is not enough,I could call my Egyptian funeral god buddy and I could always give a demonstration of my powers.Bind my hands. I'll show you that I still have my powers when bound, unlike warlocks. That way you'll know it's true."
The inquisitor nodded. "Very well. Let us start. What is your name?"
"Rhyoo Sunghye."
"When did you ascend?"
"June 3 if you go by the old calender,1004 years ago."
"What was your parabatai's name?"
"Chrysandra Carstair."
"How and when did she die?"
"She died of old age when she was 92. An extremely long life at the time."
"What caused you to make Alexander Gideon Lightwood immortal?"
"It was a necessity. He would have died otherwise, punctured by Scorpius demon spines like that."
"He should have died the honorable death fighting."
Raven leveled her gaze, staring directly at Robert, the fire in her dark eyes now changed to ice, cold and hard. "You already lost one son," she said, soft voice cold and cutting. "I didn't think that you'd want to lose another."
Robert's face turned red,and Isabelle looked devastated and horrified."Now for the final test.Bind her hands!" He ordered.
Someone tied Raven's hands together with these weird cuffs. A moment later, water flowed into the room, like a reverse drain. Everyone gasped. Clearly they had not expected her powers to still work. "Is that enough proof for you?" Raven asked, voice scathing.
Long story short,Malec's wedding is still on.
