Chapter 1
Icy blue eyes viewed the ongoing scene before him, watching as Lisa's limp body was carried out of the tent by the two henchmen the court provided.
Idiots they were, their mindless chatter an annoyance to the ears of Sapphire. He couldn't wait for the moment of their deaths, in fact, he would personally be there to see it. He gave a grim tight-lipped smile at the thought.
The situation was that people like them, minor accomplices to the crimes and killings various Talons commit, could not be allowed to live once their purpose was served, not with their inside knowledge about the court. Once the job was done, a Talon would be sent to get rid of them.
Sapphire tuned back into reality, noticing the glances directed towards him immediately. He huffed out a sigh of annoyance. Stupid commoners with their narrow mindset of what a child could and could not do. That moronic belief had proved to be a inconvenience to Sapphire one too many times. It was ridiculous, honestly. What was society to be given the ability to dictate his strengths and weaknesses?
He was clearly much more skilled and experienced than those pathetic newcomers that blubbered for their mothers at the first sight of death.
Sapphire's line of focus shifted back to Lisa, narrowing his eyes when he detected a subtle twitch of one of her fingers. She was awakening. Her awareness would make everything much more difficult to accomplish. That wouldn't do. That wouldn't do at all.
Scowling, he marched over to the black limousine, slapping away the hand that were about to close the passenger door. Henchman One yanked his hand back to his chest, glaring at Sapphire in anger, yelling furiously, "What the hell was that for?!"
Sapphire ignored his outburst, placing a firm hand on Lisa's shoulder, yanking her upright. A faint whimper came from behind Lisa's gag as Lisa began to rise from the blissful darkness that she was in, silencing any protest from the two henchmen. Giving the situation a calculated once-over, Sapphire readied his hand and gave a firm strike to the side of Lisa's neck, knocking her out once more.
He crossed his arms, staring at the two henchmen with unhidden contempt, before stating in a monotone unforgiving voice, "She was waking up."
The henchmen sheepishly averted their eyes, fidgeting restlessly, wanting to be anywhere but there.
Sapphire's eyes narrowed, he would savour their deaths so much.
_______________________________________
He had enjoyed their deaths extremely.
He loved every aspect of it. From the nervous denial, to the fearful anticipation, the ugly sobbing and pleading, the desperate grabs and cries towards various members of the Court for just a miniscule speck of mercy, not that its existence was ever known, and finally, their screams of agony before they fell silent. They were pathetic.
It felt so good. It almost made putting up with them worth it. Almost.
He mindlessly picked at his nails, his mind wandering off to the topic of Lisa. They should be doing the compatibility tests right now, he thought.
Inside, he felt a tinge of regret, he frowned, shoving it deep inside him. He had already made his choice a long time ago, there was no turning back from this, no time for regrets. Regretting only made you weak, vulnerable, distracted.
Lifting his wrist, he checked the time. He winced, it was way past midnight. He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. Welcome back eyebags. Well at least tomorrow wasn't a performance day, that would be awful. It would ruin the whole show if he fell asleep while doing the trapeze... again.
He wrinkled his nose at the disgusting odor that was coming of him. He would need a long shower. It didn't help that this bloody stupid disguise he was wearing had so many layers. God, was removing it going to be tiring.
He stopped at the field that was behind the tents. He was back.
It used to be my favourite spot to play in before-
No. He froze and straighted his back. His childhood was no more, he had lost it after that incident. Memories from that naive time would not help his situation in any way. Setting a frown on his face, he slinked into the circus, lost in his thoughts.
So engrossed was he that he didn't notice a dark figure lurking in the background, watching him with sharp eyes.
