Chapter 36
Jimin held the letter, his small fingers wrapping them in his hand, careful, as if it was made out of glass and it would shatter, like how he always does when he'd breakdown. The letter was him - fragile.
Jungkook stared at the letter in the older's hand, his attention fixated on it, burning holes through the letter with dark eyes that seemed to be in flames, the fire growing even bigger, more dangerous, as each second passed by. Jimin felt the heat like the letter was heating up his hands, like he could just drop it at any second, but he wouldn't dare do that.
"Jungkook, what's wrong?" Jimin felt himself grow small, as small as an ant, and Jungkook was big and holding so much power like Goliath and he, himself, was David. He could feel the heat coming off of Jungkook like he was going to burst into flames and Jimin didn't want that. Not at all. "Are you okay? Do you wanna go someplace else to get some fresh air?" He had to bring his hand to rest on Jungkook's arm, rubbing circles onto it to assure him that everything was okay, that he was here - always, for him.
Jungkook didn't even answer, but they found themselves on the school's rooftop where they sat not too long ago, where Jimin brought his hand to feel Jungkook's heartbeat, where he asked for Jungkook not to be scared of him and just look him straight in the eye.
It seemed as if Jimin was the one going against his words because now he couldn't face Jungkook with the confidence and strength he once had. He knew something was up, if anything was up, that is. Everyone's been telling Jimin, constantly, like a broken record, that he's been acting strange, that he's too preoccupied with this letter issue that he can't seem to focus on anything anymore. How, Jimin thought to himself, how could he focus when he knew for sure the clues were so obvious that it had to be one of them sending it.
The rest of their friends found out about the incident last time, on the school rooftop, and as much as Namjoon wanted to help, as much as the others wanted to help, Jimin decided they shouldn't talk about it. He was touched and he felt like trash that day, he didn't even want to open up about how those filthy hands were on him. It was such a shame that same rooftop was the same location he shared his special moment with Jungkook a few weeks ago. It was where he felt Jungkook's heart beat so fast for the very first time.
Aside from knowing about Jimin's incident, they also found out Jungkook was the one who saved him that night.
Thank you, Jungkooks could be heard from left to right, all from Taehyung, Yoongi and the others, of course, but they wouldn't seem to let the story die down because even though Jimin wanted them to pretend it never existed, what Jungkook did was beyond their imagination and it was all about taking a big leap and protecting someone you loved, cherished, and if Jungkook could've died right there, they knew he risked his life for Jimin.
That alone made them respect him even more. Even Jimin didn't know how to react the same way because his respect for Jungkook increased ten fold. It wasn't like he was uncomfortable with the younger one, but seeing what Jungkook was capable of doing, Jimin knew Jungkook was the type to protect the ones dear to him till the end.
"Jimin. Hyung," Jungkook's voice broke the silence that was threatening to suffocate Jimin who was staring at the houses from a distance, as they stood by the ledge, cautious enough not to fall. The taller one stared at Jimin's soft features - his pink, plump lips, his soft tanned skin, his long eyelashes that seemed to be curving upward like the smile Jimin was putting on as he looked at him with gentle eyes. Ever so gentle, like his touch, his hands when he'd be holding Jungkook close and the younger one had to swallow the lump that was forming in his throat yet again because Jimin was making it hard for him. "I really, really like you."
Jimin was still staring at him, but now biting his bottom lip as if he was expecting Jungkook to just burst out laughing or just him saying that he was kidding, but the younger one stayed silent, only for him to come closer and stand about a meter away from the older one.
The wind seemed to caress their faces, howling softly in their ears, playing with their hair as a few of Jungkook's hair strands covered his eyesight, but all he could see was Jimin. It made his insides hurt a bit when Jimin was still staring back at him, his smile still there, thankfully, but his eyebrows raised like he wanted for him to continue.
"I don't know if I'm making any sense, but I care about you a lot and I love you more than you think I love you because I'm willing to do anything for you, hyung," Jungkook continued, his eyes sincere and his voice on the verge of breaking. "And I'm not even kidding. I just wanted you to know this. I might lose you to someone else and I know you're going to love somebody someday and I must admit that even though I'm not ready to lose you, I'm willing to let go of you just for you to be happy."
"W-What?" Jimin couldn't believe it as he focused his eyes on a teary-eyed Jungkook who seemed so determined to say what was on his mind. Jungkook was breaking, he could tell, but he stood his ground and Jimin was so frustrated because he didn't know what was happening. It sounded like a breakup they weren't having. They haven't even started - were they even a thing? Were they- Jimin had to stop himself from overthinking as he continued. "What are you talking about? Jungkook, I do love you. A lot. So much. I don't know what you're saying."
"What I'm saying is that you shouldn't believe it was Taehyung who gave you the damn letters," Jungkook spilled. That made the older one stay silent. Jungkook's knuckles were turning white from curling his fists into balls right next to him, but that didn't matter now.
"How are you so sure?"
"Because I know it's not him, okay? It's just not him. Someone must have told him to put it in your locker, but it just so happened that you were there and bam! You thought it was him. Do you really think he would do that?" Jungkook had to let out a laugh. He shook his head and it was his turn to count the houses scattered like soldiers below them. The rooftop, they thought, was getting colder, and the wind wasn't helping.
"Damn, Jungkook. You honestly thought that I'd believe it was Taehyung?" Jimin had to cover his mouth from laughing out loud. Whipping his head to look at Jimin, Jungkook stared at him in surprise. "I know his handwriting."
Jungkook looked tensed just a few minutes ago, but now he cleared his throat and stood up straight, finding it painfully adorable how Jimin was still biting his lip from laughing like crazy. God, Jungkook was going crazy, he didn't even know if he should cry or just pull Jimin in for a tight hug. Both sounded tempting.
"Taehyung's handwriting is oddly neat, I don't know. It has different strokes and curves and he draws emojis and stuff, you know? That wasn't him. I was just waiting to see his reaction if he'd ride along or not," Jimin shrugged, giving Jungkook a side smile. "Besides, I also wanted to know if he had a thing for me. Seeing that he turned red and didn't really deny it, maybe he does kinda dig me, who knows?"
Jimin's chuckle was comforting, but Jungkook stood still and watched the older one show his pearly white teeth, his smile blinding.
No one liked Jimin as much as Jungkook liked him, though, that's for sure. Jungkook was definitely sure of that.
"Hyung doesn't like you as much as I do, though," Jungkook had to say, so bold that Jimin stuck his tongue out at him. Jungkook just gave him a playful smirk.
"Yeah, I know. Your kisses kinda give it away," Jimin laughed, hoping it would sound like a joke, but he wished he wasn't fooling around. Jungkook just made his way to him only for him to embrace Jimin in his arms tight, sighing contentedly.
"If you want, I can give you a kiss right now, hyung," Jungkook looked down to meet Jimin's eyes, the older's arms around Jungkook's waist and holding him secure. When Jimin was speechless, staring back at Jungkook's eyes and getting lost in them for a short while, the younger one placed both his hands on both of his cheeks to squish them, letting Jimin pucker up in the cutest manner. "I don't care if you say no, I'll do it anyway."
With that, he gave the older one a peck, with Jimin feeling like goo as his head was held in place, the younger's warm lips on his and there, Jimin breathed in the drug he knew was Jungkook.
Aware that his arms were around Jungkook, he interlocked his hands together to pull Jungkook's body closer to his, to taste his lips and what he had to offer. All they've ever tried were light pecks and sweet kisses, but right now, with just the two of them and the wind blowing Jungkook's hair and letting it touch Jimin's forehead, his eyes, he tilted his head to the side to meet Jungkook's lips for a deeper kiss and it tasted sweet.
Jungkook's lips were soft and moist and just the right ones Jimin liked as they both smiled into the kiss, looking into each other's eyes for a short second before returning back to the kiss just for Jungkook to pull Jimin closer to his body, pressed up against his. Jimin held the younger's hand which was resting on his neck to kiss him better, and with all the courage and strength he could muster up, he let go of his hand just to grip onto Jungkook's shirt, slighly shaking as he experimentally licked on Jungkook's bottom lip to get some kind of reaction. He could hear Jungkook's chuckle rumble in his chest, before the younger one opened his mouth slightly to let Jimin in.
Jimin's heart was dancing around his ribcage, beating out of his chest, as their tongues met and though they were both new to this, it felt right. Seeing that they weren't rushing into it and taking their time, it felt better that way, especially when Jungkook wouldn't stop smiling, heat rushing up to his neck, his face and his ears, clearly pleased and his heart started to swell.
"Stop laughing," Jimin had to say as he broke the kiss, his lips just hovering over Jungkook's own, a mere centimeter away, as he, too, was laughing. Everything was crazy. Jungkook was still holding his head in place, not wanting him to leave.
"I'm just happy, that's all," Jungkook grinned, pecking Jimin's lips again, startling the older one, but Jimin laughed once more just to peck his lips, too. Jungkook kissed him one more time and knew Jimin tasted of strawberries and peaches and all things Jungkook loved, and he didn't want to stop kissing the only one who makes his heart dance and do weird flips, Park Jimin. "I get to kiss you and the others don't. Does this mean you like me back?"
"You're so stupid," Jimin had to hit his chest lightly and Jungkook chuckled as he rubbed the spot Jimin had hit. "Do I really have to explain everything?" the older one couldn't help but frown. "I like you, okay. I love you."
"What would you do if I told you those letters came from me?" Jungkook asked.
Everything stopped.
It was as if Jungkook was pulling some kind of joke and Jimin furrowed his eyebrows, hitting his chest again.
"Ah- Hyung, seriously, stopping hitting me, at least say something," the younger one couldn't help but laugh, giggling as Jimin's pout was clearly evident. "Baby, come on."
"Hey- Of course I'd get mad 'cause you've been seeing me talk about this person who's been giving me the letters for months, but then it was just you all along. I'd be so mad, maybe I woudn't talk to you for days," Jimin sighed, frowning not a second later. Jungkook just pulled him in for a tight embrace and Jimin let himself drown in Jungkook's hugs. "But seriously, Kook. I'd be happy if it were you, too."
"You would?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I? I mean, why are you asking me all these questions?" the older questioned him. "Jungkook, I swear if it's you-"
Jimin pushed him off of him as a joke then immediately started tickling Jungkook's sides for him to tell him the truth.
"Come on, Kook! Tell me!"
"Hyung!" Jungkook couldn't help but laugh out loud, the sides of his eyes wrinkling in the most adorable way, his cute, white bunny teeth showing. Jimin kept tickling him, wanting the truth to spill and he didn't care if Jungkook would turn even more red. He was ticklish. "Hyung, I've been wanting to tell you, but-" he stopped, his breath hitching because Jimin wouldn't quit tickling him. "-but it was all about the timing!"
"Tell me what, baby?" Jimin teased, a tiny squeak was heard as he was laughing too much.
Seeing that Jimin wouldn't stop, Jungkook took this opportunity to pull Jimin close with so much force, their height difference visible as their chests touched and Jimin's breath stopped. Jungkook was panting, his face red, tiny beads of sweat running down his temples. It was only a matter of seconds before Jungkook kissed him hard.
"Hyung, it was me."
