Chapter Thirteen
Lisa had been floating the night before, she was walking on sunshine. She couldn't imagine anything bad ever happening in her life. Literally nothing. Ever again. That's how good she felt her life was going to be from now on. Being friends with Leo was going to literally make her life better. And she had J's letters to look forward to.
Thinking of J's letter, Lisa cut her car off and ran into the school and up to her locker. Checking her phone, Lisa realized that this was the earliest she'd ever gotten herself to school. 7:40? Yeah, this newfound friendship was definitely good for her.
Lisa could feel her excitement bubbling as she opened her locker and caught the white envelope. This proved to be a clue, as it seemed her mystery J got to school early, though she didn't have too much time to care about any clues at the moment with the letter seemingly setting her hands ablaze with anticipation.
Dear Elle,
That's a lot of in-depth details for a last minute wedding. I'm starting to think maybe this whole plan was premeditated.
Despite me having whatever it is that makes women swoon over Johnny Depp, I have a feeling I won't be able to pull off a white tux, if any kind of tux at all. I know, unbelievable, but I'm not as perfect as you obviously think I am. And I'm sorry for that.
Red velvet cake? I only eat chocolate cake though. Elle, we need to sort this out. What kind of imaginary couple are we if you don't even know that I don't eat red velvet? We may be moving a bit fast.
Maybe we could just have pancakes. I don't wanna toot my own horn, but that's pretty out of the box so... Beep beep.
All of my hair accessories stay. Those are a no go, Princess.
I'm cool with your references. They're even funny about... I'd say every twelfth one. But Elle, you can't laugh at your own jokes, I can not be betrothed to a woman who laughs at her own jokes. Those are always the least funny people, and I can't be the least funny by association.
Our vows sound like they'll be nice at least. We've got one thing keeping this wedding going.
And I do not have an infatuation with you talking to yourself. Girls have infatuations, not Johnny Depp-esque men. I just don't mind it.
I don't know how this paragraph "And on the topic of bridges, do you have any talents? Like, what do you wanna be when you grow... upper?" makes sense, honestly - and I mean this dearly - but when do you ever right?
I do have a couple talents. Basic guy talents, really. I'm okay at basketball, skateboarding, and I can play a few musical instruments, including the recorder that I mastered in the third grade.
How about you? Well, other than swimsuit modeling, which is obviously a talent all it's own.
I'm sure you're gorgeous when you cry too. Almost ethereal, like seeing a magician for the first time.
Your loneliness seems to bother you. I thought you were gonna engage Leo in a new cheesy way? I'm sure he would get a kick out of you. A good kick.
Twelve? I'm a grown man. Eighteen year old man to be exact. I'm obviously older if I have a strictly senior class with Leo.
So, until next time, young one.
Love J
P.S. Please don't ever say or write the word 'punny' again.
Now, Not Like I Have To Tell You To, Love J
Lisa laughed as she put the letter back in the envelope and slipped it into the purse resting on her waist instead of folding the whole thing in half and shoving it in her back pocket like she usually had to do. Since she had the time, Lisa went down to the second floor where Leo's locker was at and waited for him and his friends to show up.
She was scrolling through Instagram when they turned the corner. She didn't even have to look up to know it was them. They all had a certain kind of energy, the kind that you never forget. Lisa put her phone in her pocket and pushed off of the wall, "If it's not the musketeers themselves." She smiled at them. "In the flesh." Leo answered as he bowed jokingly.
He opened his locker, tossing his backpack inside and put his arm in the familiar space around Lisa's shoulders. Jermaine pushed down his resentment as he smiled along with everyone else, and seeing how happy Leo looked, he felt bad for trying to push Elle into his arms. Lisa though, was feeling no remorse about secretly eyeing Leo's friends, trying to see which one looked like an instrumentalist, because all of them were in sports player shape.
Leo snapped them both out of their thoughts, "So, Lisa. Wanna tell us what we'll be doing this Saturday?"
