Chapter 17
KETLIN
My aunt and this other man came to me. I stared at my granny, like asking if she called them.
"Ketlin, we're going to need your blood sample," Siiri told me.
I crossed my arms. "You can't take it by force."
They then looked at each other. Probably they didn't expect I knew about his blood thing. But then this man stepped closer and grabbed my arms. I looked at him in confusion and tried to pull them free. Suddenly there was a snap. He had put me handcuffs.
"What are you doing?" I started to yell.
"You must come with us," Siiri told me and tried to calm me.
I looked at my granny, who avoided my look. I quickly stood up to run out, but before I could even reach the door, this man grabbed me again. He was very strong and no matter how much I tried, I couldn't get free. Siiri opened the door, letting this man carry me out.
"Let me go! You can't do this!" I screamed as loud as I could. And though I was kicking with my legs, he didn't seem to notice it. I was furious at them all.
My mum approached. "What are you doing? What is going on?" She was also confused and startled about all this. Granny, who slowly came behind us, went to talk with mum. But I didn't hear their words. I was taken away.
When he had taken me outside, two more men approached us. To make sure I won't flee. I now thought about neighbours and other people who maybe happen to be near.
"Hey, please! Somebody!..." I yelled clamorously. But then some kind of soft thing was put into my mouth and someone's hand was keeping me from spitting it out. I can't believe, that my own aunt and granny would let it happen. It really wasn't a good idea to come back.
There was a black van in front of our house. It's door was slid open and they pushed me inside cruelly. This sight probably didn't much differ from those action movies, where people are kidnapped from the street.
The back seats were facing each other, like in limousine. Two of the guys sat on both of my sides, the third sat in front of me. Next to him was some woman, who already was there when we came. And now Siiri sat next to the driver. I stared at her furiously.
When car started driving, I spat this thing out from my mouth.
"Where are you taking me?" I demanded, but no one answered. "Do you think I won't run away again, if you're doing this? Do you think I will come back next time?" It was mostly directed at my aunt, because I didn't know the others. She only looked at me shortly from the corner of her eye, but still didn't say anything.
When I understood they won't talk to me, I also decided to remain silent, to spare my energy. I stared at my handcuffs. I was like a criminal.
We pulled over in front of a big white building, which was located away from town. It was surrounded by metal fence. The man next to me grabbed my arm again and pulled me out from the car. I had a small plan of escape, but I wasn't sure if it will work. I walked with them, like I had more or less accepted the situation. And when I thought it was the right moment, I kicked the man on my left in the stomach with my leg. The other one tried to hold me still, but I slapped him in the face with my handcuffs. Then I ran as fast as my legs could carry me.
They of course started to follow me. I almost thought that they won't catch me, but then more people came behind the corner. I saw them at the last moment and didn't manage to escape them. I was pushed against the wall, then someone lifted me over his shoulder, and they took me inside. And this place also reminded me of prison, only I didn't see any cells. They took me to a small room and put me on a chair. A bit later my aunt came in.
"I can tell police about this," I told her angrily.
"In that case they would learn about deemotays."
"Why would they believe in this thing?"
"We have enough evidence."
I tried to think of something to do, but nothing came to my mind.
"Ketlin, I don't want to do this, but it's necessary." She tried to sound apologizing and gentle.
"If you hurt Adam, I'll never forgive you," I growled.
"I don't want him to hurt you."
"And you don't hurt me?"
She didn't answer to that. Then some woman came inside, holding a needle. I froze in place.
"We have to take your blood sample," Siiri told me.
I pulled my hands back. "It won't help. I haven't seen neither of them for few days."
"We'll still try," the woman said and came in front of me. Someone, who had stood behind me, now held me still. My right hand was pulled straight and the woman put the needle in and took my blood.
When they had finished, they took me out of this room and into another.
"So you have cells," I said with a disgust, when I saw a small room that a bit reminded me of hospital. Low bed and small cupboard. They left me here alone and locked the door. At least there was a toilet.
I was alone in there for a pretty long time. I just stared at the ceiling and tried to hold my tears back. Then someone unlocked the door and my aunt came in. At this time I was sitting on my bed, my arms around my knees and I turned my head away. She bend down towards me and removed my handcuffs. But I still didn't look at her. I didn't move at all.
"Your blood sample didn't work," she told me then. I smiled to myself.
"It means we'll have to question you," she continued.
"With truth serum?" I asked monotonously. She only nodded. "Here's the truth: I have no idea where they are."
"Unfortunately we'll have to do it our way. But first we'll let you rest for few days." When she had said that, she left again.
My 'resting' didn't really turn out as they had hoped. I didn't talk to anyone at all, I didn't even look at anyone and I refused to eat. And it lasted almost three days. I didn't care that they worried about me.
My granny and mum also visited me, but I didn't talk with them either. I felt like my soul was dead. Only one I could trust now, besides myself, was Adam, but he wasn't here.
Everyone were now worried that I will starve myself to death and they didn't know what to do about it. It was suggested to make the questioning as soon as possible, so they could let me home. But others thought that it would only make my situation worse and I better should go home immediately. And of course there were people who thought that it would be better if I won't get back home any time soon, as I may run away again. Finally it was decided to make the questioning now, though it was still unsure, if I'll get back home after this.
They took me somewhere underground floor, which meant lots of stairs. And as the starving had made me weak, they had to carry me.
When we made it to the right room, I had to wait there for a while. Madis, the guy who gave me handcuffs on that first day, was also there. Suddenly someone rushed in.
"XX spotted a deemotay!" he said between the breaths.
"Where?" Madis asked.
"Here. It's moving around the house in the woods!"
I raised my head. Was it possible that they came to rescue me?
Madis took out his radio. "Into the room 223. Girl must be watched."
A bit later four men came in. All of them had guns.
The room went silent, our breathing was the only sound. I found a moment when no one looked at me. I grabbed a pen from the table and threw it at the back door. All those four men rushed there and opened it. Two of them went in. Madis stayed next to me. I pulled myself together and hit him in the face with all my strength I had left. He wasn't waiting for that. Then I rushed towards the door and ran out of this room. When they had understood what had happened, they started to run after me.
I rushed up the stairs and found myself from completely unfamiliar place. I looked around and kept walking to find a way out.
"Hey you!" I heard someone's deep voice. But I didn't see anyone.
"Make two more steps," it said now. At first I hesitated but then did what he said. I saw a glass door. And what I saw behind it, made me startle.
Behind the glass there was some kind of cage, where a man was tied to the bars with strong chains. He looked at me with a smile.
