What is time?

No, not the management of time, or when time was discovered, or who created time. What is it? It was probably there long before we discovered it. What is it? Do you know? 

How does time work? Why is it in minutes? In hours, in seconds? Why must a day be 24 hours? Why not 25, or even 30?
