Chapter 8- sick day
Jay was coughing very loudly. His mom just left for another business trip and he was sick. Yet, he wouldn't admit it. He'd been trying to keep food down sine two this morning. Now it was 7:30am which is when he heads to school. As he grabbed his book bag Flame appeared behind the now opened fridge.
"What's good in her today?" She asked as she dug threw the fridge again. Jay let out another loud cough. Her head popped over the side of the door. His face was green. Something told Flame this wasn't normal.
"Hi, Jay! Why are you green?" She asked him.
"I'm green because......." Jay tried to think of a reason he'd be green other than being sick. Finally an idea hit him.
"Humans turn green when they're in a very good mood." Saying these words some how made his stomach feel worse. This made Flame a little suspicious. If this was true then, why didn't Luna turn green around her brother?
"Are you sure? You look like you're going to-" Before Flame could finish her thought Jay couldn't hold in the food anymore. He threw up all over his new red sneakers. Flames face turned red. Was that supposed to happen?
"Let's get you back to bed." She said grabbing his arm lead him back to bed, thankfully she didn't step in the barf. Once Jay reached his room he removed his shoes and laid on his bed. Flame put his book bag back in the hallway before trying to find him some pyjamas. She found a blue pair that looked quite comfy. After he changed, Jay fell a sleep with minutes. Flame sighed as she re entered his room to get his dirty clothes.
"Guess I'm in charge of the apartment all today then, aren't I." She said joking around. Jay let a big snore causing Flame to giggle.
"Well try to get better before your mom comes home in a couple days." She whispered as she exited the room without making a sound. This was going to be a long day.
Jay had been sick for almost the entire day. Flame had waited on his hand and foot. So far today she had cleaned up the barf (which was totally gross), cooked soup without burning the house down, found a barf bucket, done laundry, cleaned the windows and counters, tried to write a note in Jay's mom's hand writing to explain he had been sick, pulled Jay's blankets off and on him over and over again, and cleaned the dishes. Hopefully Jay's mom didn't come home early to find a fourteen year old girl with fangs waiting on her son. If she did then, Jay would definitely never be aloud to do leave the apartment after school ever again. Flame let out a big yawn. Why was she so tired? It was only seven fifty! Maybe a couple of minutes of sleep couldn't hurt. She deserved it after all. Her eyes slowly began to close causing her to drift of to sleep. Back to one of her favourite memories.
Flame opened her eyes to see her old home once again but, this time James was there. He was laughing so loud that you could here him from Flame's bed room. Which is what brought her out to the long red hall way.He was teaching their younger sister Jade and brother Matt to fly. Matt little wings were orange while his three year old sister's, was red just like Flame's. Flame stood in the hall way laughing as the four year old boy ran around his brother in circles flapping his red arms making bird noises. His sister had joined in too. James began to laugh.
"For the last time, we don't fly like birds you dorks." James stated picking the kids up for large bear hug. Flame giggled from the hallway causing James to turn his head.
"You think this is fun do you?" He asked. Flame nodded. James smirked placing the kids on the floor.
"Look out for the demon hunter!!" He screamed. The three children ran from their 27 year brother laughing. If they were caught they were tickled till they either can't breath or someone saved them. Soon Fuego joined even though he said a 14 year old was too old to do this for fun. Everyone even Flame (who was 12) knew it was a lie. Fuego always thought James was fun. Before anyone could stop them their other siblings Kat, Lou, Pete and Aphrodite joined in running away from their half brother too. Everyone ran and giggled till they ran into their mother. Her mother crossed her peach arm and glared at them with her fire coloured eyes. Mom's beautiful hair was in a bun onto of her head. She was wearing her red shirt that covered her chest leaving her stomach un protected and black jean.
"What's going on here?" She asked looking crossed.
"Jame's is the demon hunter mommy. If he gets us we're tickled to death!" Jade giggled. Her mother smiled.
"Well then you better looked out for the best demon hunter." Her mom giggled as she held her hand out ready to tickle them to death. The chance was back on. Children running left and right trying not to get tickled to death. Oh how Flame wished this could last forever. Unfortunately time had other plans.
Flame opened her eyes to return back to Jay's kitchen with her head on the black counter and her butt still sitting on the silver stool. There was a puddle of spit by her mouth. She looked at the time. It was ten thirty at night. As she sat up a blanket fell off her back. She turned around to pick it up.This was definitely one of Jay's blankets. James was one of the friendliest demons you ever met in hell.Even though James told her that earth had some of the kindest people on it and that she'd make more friends than anyone else there every time she'd cry about demons hating her.No matter what would happen she'd always believe him. Flame smiled as she
picked up the blanket. As she trudged over to the couch to sleep some more she smiled.
"Guess he was right about earth after all." She thought as she drifted back off to sleep.
