He's hurt, Cara thought frantically, her vision blurring with tears. 

"Emmelia," she called. "Can you set a course for Hoth?"

"Okay," the six-year-old replied cheerfully. A few moments later, she returned. 

"Hey, Mommy? Isn't it kind of really really cold on Hoth?" 

"Um, yeah," Cara said. "We have coats, though."

Emmelia scurried up beside her. "Mommy. Mommy, what's wrong?"

Cara jumped. "Nothing." That certainly wasn't true. 

"But you look kind of sad and scared. You never look sad or scared."

Cara turned to face her daughter. "Emmelia, listen to me."

Emmelia nodded seriously.

"Have you ever thought about having a twin?"

"Well, yeah," Emmelia admitted. "Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like if I did."

"You do."

Emmelia was confused. "I do? I have a twin? Where is he?" She glanced around as though expecting another six-year-old to come bursting out of the closet.

"He's on Hoth," Cara explained.

"And so that's why we're going there," Emmelia realized. "Why haven't we gone there before?"

"Because he doesn't live on Hoth, Emmie. He travels around, like us, only he's with your - your dad."

Emmelia nodded. "And they're on Hoth. But...why haven't we met them?"

Cara shook her head. "I'll tell you another day, Emmelia."
