Placing
As we stepped up onto the starting line everyone could tell the next was just as worried. We were required to take full transformation when the race began. Although you would expect it from us, we only learned how to transform a couple lessons ago. The DNA still rang throughout us but wasn't quite as ready as the mind could prosper. The coach walked up to us one by one and checked out our name with a thick clipboard in one hand and gripped pen in the other. His baseball cap made his head look three times smaller. It would fall to one side than when replaced it would to the other. The gossip continued but everything seemed to grow silent when he was finally standing in front of me and asking for my name. "Destiny, sir" I said almost stricken dumb. He clicked his pen, scribbled something, and moved on. My father named me only shortly before I was born. He was a caring man who always seemed to find the positive. Almost a complete opposite of my mother. After the last one was checked off and ready everyone stopped whatever it was they were doing and got in position. My eyes were so focused on what was ahead of me I almost forgot to change shape. Some failed and got pulled out while others simply did it with ease. I however managed slightly. "Just think of a wolf" I told myself. After a few blank seconds I could see my arm soften and feel bristles start to poke through. My mouth totally dislocated and grow out into a long muzzle. The continuous growth of hair continued and my muscles shaped more flexibly. I tumbled halfway between wolf and man which almost discarded my chances of getting a place at all. I put my head back in the game though and pulled ahead of most everyone taking my turn in third. I was now full wolf. My only thought was to be the leader of the pack until... a smell caught my attention. Rabbit. I was now in second near first. But again...rabbit. Delicious rabbit. No I told myself. I need to control! Shaking my shaggy head I pulled ahead to first. The finish line was so close! Like a flash whoever was in second zoomed by and jumped towards the finish line. Fear swiped me off my feet but it was already to late. Someone else had won. I pushed off the thought and was wrapped in hope at the thought of even being second. But again my thoughts were changed back to rabbit.
