Prologue

devitalize
/ verb. /
to feel drained of energy and vigour

How often have you wanted to stay up the whole night watching your favourite series / reading your favourite novel or maybe scrolling to the juciest fanfic on wattpad?
It's quite tempting to stay up the whole night when you're friends are at your place begging for just one more show, or for that one last story of what happened at school.
And ofcourse, we can deny all we want, but eventually we do give in, cause the world does run on attention you see?
We live in a contradicition. When on one hand, we crave for those nights when the world sleeps and we're awake comtemplating scenarios beyond this world or perhaps even creating a new world.. or even just relishing a world someone else has created.
We crave staying awake,
until the alarm decides to time to wake.
I think the real problem here is not sleep,
it's not even waking up..
The real issue might just be not being told what to do. And even though it's you who sets the alarm, it's still you thats annoyed when it rings and reminds you to awaken. So really, forget others but do you even like listening to your own self?
I think that's why people like staying awake, cause eventually you end up falling asleep whether its halfway through the show / book on the couch with the remote on your lap and the screen still on. I think that's why people enjoy falling asleep to the constant repetition of some trending reel playin in the background on loop until your phone screen times out.
Cause in those moments, you subconsciously fall asleep, without intending too.
You intended to stay up, but your body took control and that was beyond your control which is why you don't mind it controlling you...
But when you've repeatedly experienced this feeling of being drained and collapsing, and when you've also experienced the consequences of the next morning when you're rushing out the door then I'd just like to know..
What is this fascination with craving an all nighter?

Energy
/ noun. /
the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity

Like Einstein wisely said, "energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it can only be transformed. Everything is energy"
So whether awake or asleep, whether happy or sad, you're just displaying the same energy in different forms based on what you're thinking, doing and feeling at that time.
When asleep, our energy is dormant (hehe) and when awake its active, its changing its form but not really destroying the previous version.
But since this energy is unseen, how exactly do we know how much do we have and when we're about to run out? Is there a way to maybe quantify this?
Or maybe store it in balance for the next day without having to go through the sleep cycle to charge ourselves?
Even if you stay up for 48 hours, you eventually have to sleep at some point to bring your energy back up to normal levels?
What if, there was a way, we could-

"Ciara!"
"Yes mom?"
"Why're you still awake?"
"..uh cause I'm not asleep?"

I slowly turned my head, faced my mom standing there in the doorway with her arms crossed as she raised her eyebrow and waited for me to change my answer
Before she could even ask me what I had said, I quickly pressed save onto my thoughts, put my laptop to sleep and jumped under the covers faster than ever
"Good night momsie"
She let out a light laugh, shaking her head at how silly that was before smiling and saying,
"Good night Ciara" as she slowly closed the door behind her.
I guess I'll just have to wait till where my thoughts take me till tomorrows web entry, until then lets hope sleep comes to me before my mom comes to me again.

Authors Note
Hi guys! So I'm finally going to start being active on here once again like I was back in highscool now that I'm done with my bachelors.
So, the reason this plot revolved so much around sleep is becuz I've had a love hate relationship with it and also because while it Ciara was typing down her thoughts in her digital diary, it was actually me bringing all of my what ifs to surface, things I've personally wondered about and thought of in life about the world we live in and why things are the way they are...
I've also been wanting to enter Wattys with an original story for the longest time ever and I guess this might just be the year I do :)
Thankyouuu so muchh for sticking by so farrr and I hope you've added this to your library, cuz there's a lot more in store and this is just the beginning :)
