Hello my beautiful readers! Hope you guys are doing well. Anyway, chapter 9 is ready for you to read so I hope you like it.

I too have another werewolf story called, "Rethinking Rejection". I really want you guys to check it out. Also, I'm thinking of creating a new story with a Greek mythology and angel twist. I've got so much plans ahead and I hope I finish it well. And hopefully, you guys will like it too.

Chapter 9
Avalynn Johnson

           I was a little shaken up by the encounter with Alpha Holloway. It was something that hadn't left my mind, but right now, I want to enjoy and celebrate the birthday of Mason's sister.

I spot Mason right away, as I entered through the door. He was currently talking to some of the pack members of his pack.

Holding the gift in my hand, I approached Mason.

"Hey, Mason!" I said through the music. He waved when he saw me.

"Hey! You're just right in time for the bash."

Whew, that's a good thing. I thought I'd never make it here, when Alpha Holloway made an appearance.

Trying to act excitedly, I looked from left to right. "So, where's the birthday girl?"

Obviously, I needed to know whose party I'm in.

"Ava, this here is Tiana, my six year old sister." I looked down and saw cute little girl wearing a frilly pink dress. She was just so adorable!

"Hello, Tiana. I'm Avalynn. You have such a beautiful dress." I complimented her. It's time to cheer her up on her special day.

"Thank you! My brother said that I look like a princess today." She smiles brightly.

What else am I forgetting? I feel I like I'm missing one thing.

Oh, the gift!

How could I forget? I do hope she likes it.

"That reminds me, I've got something for you, Tiana." I watch as her face lit up with excitement. Her little smile is something worth seeing everyday for it was contagious!

I passed her the present and she seizes it with pleasure. Tiana opens the gift with delight and squeals when she sees the content. I'm guessing she's satisfied with the items.

"Thank you so much, Avalynn!" She embraces me and I chuckled, hugging her back as well.

Mason cut in and said, "Tiana? Why don't you show your new toys to your friends? You can play with your new stuffed toy."

The little one nods eagerly.

"Run along then."

She obeys and turns to her friends, showing off her new toys.

It's just Mason and I right now.

"Wow, there's a lot of people here." I remarked. Why are there a lot of people celebrating a kid's birthday party? I imagined a little girl's party would be a small gathering for a tea party. Not a whole pack celebrating. Mason wasn't kidding when he said everyone will be here.

"I know what you're thinking. Anyway, everyone actually attends birthdays here in the pack because Alpha believes that the more tight the pack is, the more united it becomes."

That's a good belief. It such a pleasant sight to see everyone enjoying.

"Nice tradition." I observed the surroundings; I was in awe.

"Besides, people like get-togethers here." He chuckled. "Do you want some fruit punch?" Mason asks. I nodded my head.

"Yes, please." I replied. I watch as he smiles at me and strides away to the kitchen.

I then went outside since the real party was held in the open area. Obviously, one giant pack house can't hold them all. Strange, I know.

I've noticed how everyone looks so cheerful here. It looked like they were having so much fun. Even with different age gaps, young speaks to the old and vice versa. Everyone truly looks so united. Surprisingly, even my pack seems to get along with the Black Stealth pack. Just for the past few days, they were like a sister pack already.

Someone tapped me. As I guessed, it was Mason holding a cup. "Here is your punch, Avalynn." Mason gives the drink to me and I thanked him for it.

"Hey, if you don't mind, I'll be greeting other people inside."

"Yeah, sure. Go ahead. I'll go mingle with some people then." Mason grins and heads off inside the pack house. Plus, it's cool because I don't really want to be seen as clingy to him.

I spot my parents sitting on the chairs. "Hello mother, father, how are you?" I greeted them with a gleeful personality.

They both chuckled and my father said, "It's very nice here, darling. This pack is very welcoming too but it's a shame that the Alpha of this pack always misses out on things like this."

True. Nolan is always missing in action. I haven't seen him yet at Tiana's celebration.

I turned to my mother for she called my attention. "Look honey, there are a lot of cute boys here. Maybe one of them could be your mate." She whispered to me.

Huh?

My father heard and shook his head with disapproval. "My daughter will not find her mate yet. She's too young and I don't want her to leave the pack yet."

Oh my, if only you knew, father. I will never be able to leave the Silver Hill pack since no one is going to take me. Not even my mate wants me.

My mother chuckled. "It's okay, darling. The time will come when she will find her mate. Let's go head off and talk to the wise elders of the pack. Goodbye, Avalynn. Your father and I will talk to you later."

They both walked away but not before my mother giving me a wink behind my father's back. Why is she rooting for me to find my mate in this party?

Too bad I didn't tell her that I found mine and we broke the bond together.

Even then, I grinned happily at them. My parents were literally goals for they do a lot of simple, yet sweet things to each other. They were after all true mates.

They both also didn't know that I have found my mate and that we have shattered our connection too. I must not tell them for my father would definitely start a war against Nolan and I don't want other people to get hurt.

Grabbing a plate full of pastries, I shook my head and made my way to an empty table here in the open area.

I sat alone because I don't really know anyone here but Mason. It would really be awkward if I joined another table then just be ignored completely.

Suddenly, someone blocked my view.

I looked up to see,

Evangeline?

Nolan's office assistant?

"Hello?" I questioned awkwardly. I always see her outside Nolan's office.

"Hey, I kind of noticed you looking very lonely and I was wondering if I could join you." She smiled at me.

Finally, I have a someone to mingle with. I was thankful because I felt uncomfortable the whole time when I was alone.

I grinned. "Of course you may! Please, by all means, sit down."

Evangeline did what she was told to.

"So, how are you?" She started the conversation. Well, at the moment, I feel happy. A while ago, I felt terrified.

"I'm fine." I told her calmly.

"Are you sure about that?" She questioned, looking at me weirdly.

Why is she looking at me like that?

She looked like she doesn't believe in anything that came out of my mouth.

"Yes, why wouldn't I be?" I looked at her in confusion. Do I not look okay? Do I look sick or something?

Evangeline came closer and whispered, "It's just that you and Alpha broke the mate bond so I was wondering if you're truly okay now..."  She trailed off.

I looked at her in complete shock.

How did she know? She wasn't even inside the room with us! I am so muddled up by the confusion.

"How do you know that?" I demanded her seriously. I need to know who told her about the bond breaking. Is she a spy?

"In case you haven't noticed or you forgotten, I'm his assistant. I was outside the office, remember? With werewolf hearing, I heard everything said even the spell. Plus, I saw your brother carry you out in the office, passed out." 

Oh my goodness, she knows too much information. Evangeline heard everything in that encounter.

"Again, are you really okay now?"

Am I?

"Oh. Yes, I am but it still hurts a bit and it's a miracle that I pulled through it all." I gave her a stiff nod. I really don't wish to remember what had happened.

"I can't imagine what you went through." She whispered in disbelief.

"I hope my mate would treat me with care one day."

Yeah, well, nobody wants to get rejected by their other half.

"I'm sure he will take good care of you. You're a kind girl so you deserve a kind mate."  I commented.

Who wouldn't like Evangeline? She was smart, kind, and pretty!  She smiled great fully and then something caught her eye behind my back.

It was then I heard a group of men approaching our table. I don't even know them yet.

"Guys!" Evangeline seemed to catch their attention when she beamed at them.

"Evangeline!"

They all ran here to hug Evangeline.

Somehow, I felt a little out of place right now and Evangeline must have noticed it.

"Everyone? I would like to introduce to you all to my new friend, Avalynn." They all turned to me and scrutinized me like a book and looked back at Evangeline. I felt very conscious of myself that I couldn't help but become a little uncomfortable.

"Don't tell me you have replaced us." One man commented, pointing out on me.

"What? No! But it's a good thing that I have a girl as a friend." She turned to me. "This is Avalynn guys; she's nice-looking right? And Avalynn, these losers right here are my weird friends. Let me introduce to you Ryan, Caleb, and Logan. They are the pack warriors of Black Stealth pack."

I stood up and held out my hand. "Hello, my name is Avalynn. I am the daughter of Alpha Johnson." I grinned at them and they're eyes seem to widen as they shook my extended hands.

"Nice to meet you all." I smiled warmly. Finally, I have more people to talk to. It will clear the awkward tension in the air soon.

"So, how come you're friends with this clown?" Ryan pointed to Angela which he earned a slap from her.

"Ouch! What was that for?" Ryan held his arm.

"Don't call me a clown you buffoon!"

I had to hold my chuckle for they were like Aiden and I when we're bickering about something. I replied, "She's an awesome girl. Who wouldn't want be friends with her?"

The boys looked at each other. "Well aren't you afraid of her?"

"Why would I be scared of her? Was there something to be afraid of?" I asked them.

"Well, she is Gamma Pearson's sister and everybody is terrified of him."

Me? Terrified over Gamma Pearson? No way- wait a minute! My eyes had widened and I spun around to face Evangeline. "Why didn't you tell me that you were Gamma Julian's sister?"

She shrugged. "You didn't ask and I doubt it was important for you to know."

I do remember that Gamma Pearson was strict during training. He was really different from Evangeline when it comes to personality but they do have resemblance in their physique.

"That's why, a lot of girls don't go near her in fear that they will get in trouble because of her brother. She hangs out with us because we aren't really scared of her or her brother. But still, Gamma Julian can really be frightening when he wants to be." Logan cuts in and explains.

If she's a Gamma's sister, why is she an assistant?

"But why are you working as a secretary for Alpha Blackwell?" She could be someone of higher rank if she wanted to be like a pack warrior.

"Because, my father thinks that helping out and doing a little work can be a big help to the pack. So I volunteered freely. Besides, the pay is reasonable."

"Oh, that explains it." I nodded my head.

Well, I guess being a secretary does help run pack business.

Then I heard my brother's voice calling out my name, "Ava! Avalynn Johnson!"

What does he want now?

"What?" I said annoyed.

"Can't you see that I am busy talking to my friends?" I glared.

"Look! They have lots of food here and a huge chocolate fountain-"

He then stops mid-sentence.

What's wrong with Aiden? He sniffs the air and I watch as his eyes flashed. It looked like his wolf took over him. Other than that, he seems troubled.

I noticed that he had the same reaction as Nolan when he first found out that I was his mate.

Oh! That explains it again!

From that moment on, I knew what had happened.

My brother had found his mate.

I'm pretty sure it would be someone seated from my table. It could either be one of the boys or Evangeline since they were the only one seated beside me. Yes, a male could also have a male mate in case you are wondering and so are girls with other females.

I witnessed as my brother scans the whole table and examines each person one by one. The group were frozen in silence.

Suddenly he stops and locks eyes with somebody.

Not just anybody.

Evangeline.

"Mine."
