Chapter 18
Nolan Blackwell

Breathing heavily, we sprinted fast.

We ran like the wind as we were trying to reach our destination. As much as possible, getting there faster will give us time to prepare. Even if our time is on a clutch right now. We just needed to push and move in a faster pace until we neared the deserted land.

I honestly don't know what to feel or to expect right now but I could feel the blood pumping in my veins. The hairs on my skin were standing up in anticipation.

While reaching the said place, I could sense the hesitation of my men. Well, I could not blame them for we are all facing venomous rogues. Those rogues that we will be dealing with are dangerous monsters and will be able to inflict harm on all of us. My pack and I don't know what would likely happen when we step onto that land but all we know is that we need to strike back and seek retribution for all of their wrong doings.

Paybacks a bitch for terrorizing the werewolf world.

As for me, I still couldn't help but think of Avalynn. It's crazy how I thought of her at this time of the day. Well, she has been on my mind lately, basically 24/7. Yes, it's quite odd, I know, but I really can't help it. Maybe it's the guilt that I'm feeling for leaving her at home when all she wanted to do was fight with us like a warrior.

She was just so dogged with determination that I wonder what she's currently doing right now. Has she planned something to escape the pack house? I know her, she does not easily back down from a fight. I actually don't want her to go into battle with us. She deserves much more than being involved in this skirmish.

I just didn't want to see her hurt. As much as possible, all females should remain in the pack house for their safety. I repeat, because they would only get hurt or injured if they fought. Plus, my wolf might not be able to take it seeing his ex-mate get physical and bloody injuries.

You must be wondering why it is like that.

Yes, we are not mates anymore but my inner wolf still cares a lot about her. Honestly I don't know why he still has a soft spot for her. My wolf can't and probably never will be able to forget about his first mate. We, basically I, have hurt her so much before. And I knew it because I have felt it too; her emotions and sentiments. So in return, my wolf and I decided to keep her safe from this war. We just want her happy so she can start moving on with her life.

Speaking of my wolf, he has been on the edge lately and honestly, I don't fault him for that. There were so many issues that we were facing and it was utterly beyond my control.

We really can't do anything to stop the war when the rogues were the ones to declare it. We could only take part in the violent struggle involving physical injuries for we all know that the rogues wouldn't go back down in a fight. They were very persistent to see the supernatural council fall at their mercy but I will not allow that.

They can rule over my dead body. I'd rather die than see him rule the supernatural world.

When we reached the edge of the border, I turned to my men and the males of the Silver Hill pack. As an Alpha, I am proud of them for staking their lives on behalf of the packs' protection. It takes a whole lot of maturity and selflessness to do so.

I'm also pleased with the camaraderie and the mutual trust that they have in each member. Without the firm belief in each other, we would have not made it this far.

We all know it. Spending a lot of time together in training, we learned how to trust and place reliance to the people who support us. Until this day, this moment, the ones who stand here are the ones that will give us the chance to gain success and set what is right in a place so cold.

Triumph is what we must reach. Victory is what we must attain.

Facing the group, I felt the need to speak to them, "Men, you all know what might happen when we enter this territory."

"They will be able to smell our scent the moment we step into the land." I point out. They are werewolves too, so they will be able to trace us like we do to them.

"If you get hit, don't ever be afraid to fight back. You should be able to stand stronger even when you are alone." With experiences of my own, there will be a time when you will be alone and unaccompanied. You must single-handedly face everything, every challenge in your way with courage.

"Even if you are on your own and independent, you shall be wise enough to stand together get as a whole group."

"Men, get ready. May the moon goddess walk beside you and grant us peace in her shadow of protection. May her paws ever guide our path for today, we fight together."

"We can do this." Aiden shouted as a form of encouragement. We all nodded and entered the territory.

For our packs, we stand united.

Swift in our movements, I was on high alert. I couldn't help but growl at the few rustling sounds heard. They must be coming for us; we are all one track away from them.

I heard a few muffled, cracking sounds and it had made me vigilant for possible dangers. I could even feel the unpleasant aura surging and I knew that bad things could happen any moment now.

Suddenly, I saw a giant wolf leap from behind the trees.

"Watch out!" I warned with my might. The pack warrior, who heard my voice, had heeded my warnings. He became fully aware and has managed to dodge the attack of the opponent. As much as possible, my goal is that people will come back home with less wounds and injuries. But as of the moment, we can never be too sure. After that wolf attack, one thing was made clear.

The war has begun.

"Everyone! Watch your backs! Bloodshed awaits us all!" Alpha Johnson exclaimed.

I crouched low, in a defense position. My inner wolf wanted to come out in ire.

High on alert, I then see the antagonist wolves come out to attack us. One came after another; thus, making us all shift into our wolves and all set for battle. In a short period of time, we were all preoccupied. Fighting the enemy, I got a few scratches here and there but it's nothing I can't handle.

Feeling someone sneaking up on me, I grab hold on to this brown wolf with my sharp teeth; I bit it hard enough to kill him. I heard a cracking sound and it somehow pleased me. Snapping his neck, the brown wolf lay limp on the ground.

One down, many more to go.

I squatted low and continued my hunt for foes.

Searching for more possible enemies, a laugh was heard.

There was nothing funny yet it brought chills down my back. "Ah, you're finally here, Alpha Blackwell." I spun around in my wolf form to confront the one who started it all. I snarled at him, crouching lowly to protect myself. "I didn't think you'd show up." He added haughtily.

That's it! I shifted back to my human form for I was triggered and provoked to react.

"Well, I wouldn't back out from a fight." I said confidently as we circled each other. "Specifically, when it is a fight you are involved in." I sneered, trying to mock him.

Though it did not work for he just gave a smile at me. An eerie smile might I add. "Well, I am pleased to motivate you in battle."

What a spiteful bastard.

"Why are you even doing this?" I asked, taking a few steps forward, yet he goes back and hisses. He seems to get a little heated.

"Is that even a question? You want to know why? You killed my father, that's why!"

Is that it? His father was a sinful bitch who is much worse than a swine.

"That was a long time ago! He tortured me and killed my parents! He deserves what I did to him. Just by now, I'm sure he's rotting in hell."

He snarls but composes himself. "Well, I will not argue with you. Even if he's my father, that stupid son of a bitch deserved to die." I did not expect hearing those words coming out of his mouth.

"What? I thought you loved your bastard of a father? Aren't you mad that I killed him?" His father might be cruel, but how could he say that to his predecessor?

"I'm not. I'm thanking you actually. I would have killed him sooner when I had the chance to do so. He was never a good father to me anyway. I am just pissed that you killed him and I never had a proper time to reconcile with him. You took away my childhood because of that."

No wonder he is out for revenge. Benjamin was a sad, lonely mutt.

"I didn't know." I really didn't. His father took away my parents too so I know how he feels.

"It's too late for that now. My father was too power hungry for me to handle anyway. I guess I know where my strength of character came from." Yes, he never gives up. He does not die easy.

"Anyway, enough of that chit chat, I'm not here for that. How is the beautiful Avalynn doing by the way? She sure does look lovely in pictures. She reminds me a lot of Melissa. Remember?"

Back to business, the moment I heard Ava's name, I snarled loudly. How does he know about her? I pity him so much but he is obviously a creep. Did he have spies to check on Avalynn? How much does he know about her?

And why did he have to bring up Melissa? It's old news and it's his fault that she's gone.

"Well, she's safe and away from you." I scowl, trying to act nonchalant. I was hoping that Benjamin and I do not dwell in the past. I might just snap and get triggered. Avalynn was locked away in the pack house and is not on battle grounds.

The fight was here, not there, so I am assuming she's not harmed at all.

"Are you sure about that?" His was voice taunting as he gave a sinister grin. What is he trying to say?

Noticing the confused expression on my face, he chuckled.

"You are so senseless. And for an Alpha at that is very pathetic."

He dares to insult me? My wolf wanted to come out and kill him but I refrain from doing so. I needed to know what he is talking about. He must have planned something big.

Then my mind screamed, Avalynn!

Eyes widening, he must have sent a few of his men to attack them. They knew that those people back there are important to us male wolves. By the mocking look of his face, it had answered all my questions. They're my people too and they're lives are worth saving as the other. In a disordered state, I became very much worried about the people in the pack house. I knew for a fact that I cannot leave this battle ground because my men needs a leader.

My heart then started to beat fast, blood flowing and pumping rapidly. The last thing I saw was red, and the only thing that crossed my mind was to kill.

I ferociously attacked the beast.
