If she closed her eyes, she could still feel the fear and panic of not being able to get away. Goyle was strong and stupid which was a deadly combination especially when he'd been fueled by the attitudes of his family to believe he was somehow superior. Her back still hurt with the memory of being slammed against the wall as he pressed his face against hers.
"Celia?" The soft voice of Katie Bell, broke her from her thoughts and her head snapped up to see her three friends staring at her, their eyes wide with concern. She laughed slightly to try and convince them she'd just been in an innocent day dream but none of them believed her.
"You stopped writing..." Angelina Johnson added. Her and Alicia Spinnet exchanged a look as if she was a wounded animal. She hastily bent her head down, she didn't like Cormac's complete dismissal of her feelings but he didn't particularly enjoy being treated like she'd been broken either. The kiss had definitely shaken her quite a lot but she didn't feel as fragile as they clearly thought she was.
"I just got lost in thought, anyway, what were we doing again?" She asked, smiling brightly.
"Celia, you're allowed to feel upset about it, it was very serious. You can cry." Alicia said suddenly. Katie could clearly tell that Celia was uncomfortable and quickly changed the subject.
"We were looking back over the history of Mermaids and Wizards coexisting. I think we'd got up to 1655 which of course was the year when the Black Lake agreement was written which stated that Mermaids were free to remain in the lakes they had lived in provided they had been inhabiting that lake for over a hundred years prior to this." Katie said it all so quickly that Celia could barely understand a word she'd said but she gave her a grateful smile.
Angeline was not ready to drop it and Celia watched as her eyes slowly drifted down to her wrist where a few small bruises remained from where Goyle had gripped her. Fearing that the subject was about to be brought up again, she tugged her sleeve down to cover them and carried on with her work.
"Yeah, I think you're right, Katie," She replied, "Shall I test you for the test tomorrow?"
"Sure," Katie stood up from her seat and sat down to next to Celia, providing a slight barrier between her and Angelina and Alicia, "Can we look over the early 1500s? I just can't wrap my head around all the dates."
"Yeah, there are a lot of them," Celia said with a slight laugh, "Okay, when did the Aquaira Pact take place?"
Although she knew that Angelina and Alicia meant well, she was finding them quite intense. It wasn't just the fact that they were portraying her as more of a victim than she felt but they seemed intent on her doing something about it. The phrase, 'if you don't tell someone, we'll do it for you' had been said a lot and it made her distinctly uncomfortable. She didn't know what she wanted to do about it, she didn't even truly know how she felt about it.
She knew that they meant well though, so she didn't want to think badly of them because of it. Katie seemed to understand and had been trying to change the topic if Celia seemed to be withdrawing or uncomfortable with the conversation. The two of them had talked about it a bit but not excessively.
"Hey Celia," A voice behind her said. She turned around to see the cocky smirk of her Cormac behind her.
"Here we go." Katie muttered.
"Hey Cormac," Celia replied, "What's up?"
"Not much, can't I come and see my friend without a reason," He looked at the seat next to Angelina which she had placed her bag on. Cormac, picked it up and dumped it on the floor.
"Do you mind?" Angelina said, glaring across the table at him. Cormac responded to her with a nonchalant shrug.
"You're not sitting there," Cormac said, "I wanted to sit next to my friend and you're sitting across the table. You shouldn't have put your bag there if you didn't want it to be moved. Anyway, Celia as I was about to say, you'll never guess what happened today..."
"Cormac, I'm a little busy, me and Katie were about to revise for History of Magic, we have a test tomorrow." Celia said but Cormac was undeterred.
"Celia, it will only take a few minutes to tell, really. It's worth it too, like I said you'll never guess what happened today."
"What?" Celia said stiffly. She'd been sort of avoiding talking to Cormac for a few days which she did feel a bit bad about. He hadn't realised he'd hurt her feelings but he'd known her for years, she was surprised he hadn't been a little more aware.
"Well, I was walking along the corridors today and I bumped into Hermione, you know Hermione Granger of course - "
"Yeah you told me about her a few times..." Celia said, trying not to suppress a smile. When she said 'a few times', what she meant a lot. She wasn't quite sure why he liked Hermione as much as he did, Cormac usually didn't like dating girls in the year below but apparently something about her nerdy demeanor and intelligence had attracted her bragging friend enough for him to make an exception.
"Anyway, I was walking down the corridor, she was that ginger kid, you know the friend of Harry Potter, anyway, she was talking to him but looked over at me as we walked past and smiled." Cormac said.
"She probably doesn't know you that well yet," Angelina cut in, "That's the only reason I can think of as to why she'd smile at you."
Celia laughed slightly at this but she could see that Cormac was not even slightly amused by this. His nostrils flared and his eyes narrowed as if he was zeroing in one Angelina to think of the best response.
"Was I talking to you, Johnson?" Was the best he could come up with.
"That's great, Cormac, do you think you're actually going to talk to her any time soon?" Celia asked.
"What? No, I told you I'm waiting, I'll do it in Seventh year."
"I say just go for it." Celia said quietly, "Just kiss her when she's not expecting it."
She looked up at Cormac to see his reaction and was horrified to see that he'd made no connection between what she'd just suggested and what had happened. Instead he seemed to be nodding slightly.
"Nah, I'll be a gentleman," He gave her a light slap on the back, "I'm no Goyle, eh?"
Celia eyes widened and she watched as her three friends shot a glare at him. Cormac clearly realised that he'd slipped up and held his hands up like he was surrendering.
"Go away, Cormac," Alicia said, "We're busy and nobody wants to talk to us."
"Alright, Spinnet, I was actually talking to Celia not you but I'm not going to stick around if you're going to be such a whiny bitch," Cormac's ego had clearly been wounded. He bent down and said in a stage whisper (loud enough for the others to hear), "It's clearly their time of the month." He was too busy laughing at his own remark to notice the pen being thrown at his head by Alicia. It hit him on the forehead yet from the loud squeal he made, it seemed like he'd been stabbed.
"Which one of you threw that?" He exclaimed, rubbing his head, "Celia, which one threw it?"
"Cormac, I'll see you later," Was Celia's reply.
Cormac looked between her and Angelina, opening his mouth to protest before closing it. He ran his hands threw his hair, straightening himself out, "Fine. I'll see you later, Celia... and hopefully I'll never see the rest of you again."
"The feeling's mutual!" Angelina called after him before her, Alicia and Katie broke into laughter, "Wow, that guys really is a total asshole. Celia, why are you still friends with someone like that? He joked about what happened, why do you just grin and bear it?"
"We go way back, we were friends in first year." Celia said quickly, "It's fine though..."
"It's not fine," Alicia said, "You need to hex him, hex Goyle and then tell McGonagall. If you don't I will."
Celia gave a small laugh in response before quickly, "So, Katie, better get on with that revision right?"
Celia hated this, she didn't know what she wanted right now. It didn't feel serious enough for her to play the victim yet the bruises on her wrist felt otherwise. Part of her wanted to tell McGonagall or someone but at the same time, she was scared that Cormac was right and she was just being dramatic. Goyle had violated her but was it serious enough for her to actually do anything? She sighed, perhaps it was best just to let it go after all.
