*******
When Aoba finished his shift at work, you two and Koujaku went to a small diner to drink and reminisce of the past. It was there that you realized... There were so many things you didn't know about Aoba. But Koujaku knew it all. After you had moved away, Aoba made another childhood friend. You'd been replaced... Just thinking these paranoid thoughts disappointed you. 'Maybe it's impossible to go back to the way things were.'
As the realizations hit you like a brick wall, you slinked down in your chair. Your shoulders slouched and your head hung. Everything about your change in posture screamed 'I'm upset!!'
Of course, Aoba noticed and became concerned. He threw a soft smile your way and quietly asked,
"Is everything okay?"
You unconsciously looked up at him with wide puppy-dog eyes. His question had pulled you from your sad thoughts and into reality.
"Yeah... I'm fine. I'm probably just tired from the trip."
Aoba noticed your tell-all expression and could easily figure out you were, in fact, not fine. However, he knew you'd say something when you were ready, so he let it go.
"Do you have a place to stay tonight, (y/n)?"
"Oh... actually, I don't. I came here on a whim, so there wasn't really any planning involved."
You furrowed your brows and looked down again in deep thought. 'Where will I stay?'
A less than confident voice rang out, interrupting your last minute planning. It was Koujaku. You had nearly forgotten he was there.
"W-well if you need to... you could probably stay at my place."
You shot him a look of mock disgust. Aoba chuckled at your childishness but didn't say anything to counter Koujaku's offer. You felt awkward, but asked Aoba for a favor anyway.
"Ummm... Actually, Aoba? Would it be okay if maybe I stayed with you for a bit?" You gazed at Aoba with a small smile and a slight blush.
You'd always hated asking for favors and depending on others, but you really had no choice. It was either Aoba's place or the streets. Koujaku's offer wasn't an option for you.
Besides, you weren't too worried. Surely your childhood friend, Aoba, would willingly provide you shelter, right?
Wrong.
You sat in shock as you listened to Aoba's reasons for rejection. They were legitimate excuses, however, you were still dissapointed.
"...so that's why you can't stay with me tonight. Sorry, (y/n). But I'd gladly let you stay with me from then on!"
"Ah. I see. Well, that's fine then."
You sat in awkward silence until a smug voice said, "You might wanna rethink my offer then, huh?"
