Poem
Entitled: We are
By: Illaria Illecram
People think that I'm an object,
Because of what I wear.
People think because I'm blind,
That I don't notice all the stares.
People think because I'm hyperactive,
I'm stupid beyond compare.
People judge me for being different,
When they really shouldn't care.
People tell me that I'm weak,
Because I let myself feel.
People tell me I'm a freak,
Because I try to find love that's real.
People think that I can be bullied,
Because I have a heart made out of steel.
People think my differences
Are things to be concealed.
People fight against each other,
Because of the color of my skin.
People think because I love my own gender,
That I am the the ultimate sin.
People wonder if I'm dangerous,
Because of what country I was born in.
People never explore new ideas,
Their lights of change are dim.
People don't get close to me,
Because I'm not easy to understand.
People say that the tattoos that I get for myself,
Mean doors of opportunity should be slammed.
People want to mark me,
With a big bright colored band.
People want to box me up,
Into something I can't stand.
Some don't want to like me,
Because to myself I try to be true.
They ask me 'Why do you do this?'
And I want to ask them 'Why do you?'.
Those people don't stop and think
That they are different too.
That just because they are not me
Doesn't mean they can't stand in my shoes.
Everyone looks to those who seem perfect
And don't seem to believe they have flaws.
We build up nonexistent perfection
To give ourselves an impossible cause.
All the hurt and hating and jealousy
Should be forever set on pause.
All the words that people say mean something,
And shouldn't be thrown around just because.
Next time that you judge someone,
Because of weight, shoes, clothes, or hair.
I'd like you to think about what that does to them.
It breaks people down more than they can bare.
I'd like to know where people are allowed
To bring down anyone, anywhere.
I'd love to know where it says you can do that,
Where it says you can hurt. Where?

I write a poem that was inspired by another poem written by a girl, speaking out against girls being objectified and sexually assaulted because of what they wear and who they are. There was a lot more to it that that, but that was the gist. I just decided to shout out against stereotypes and judging, kinda like my own little tribute to everyone out there, and the problems they face for their differences. Everyone has their demons. This little blurb showcases it.
