Chapter 23
"Snowball, what are you talking about? Demons and ghosts aren't real," Duke pointed out. Pops was about to speak but the giant mutt gave him a glare that made him shut up. Hopping down from the window, Snowball went over to the table. Placing the book he had brought along with him upon its surface, he patted its leather cover and declared, "This has the answer to our problems."
"World hunger?" Chloe asked.
"Corruption?" Buddy suggested.
"Global warming?" Gidget piped up.
"Squirrel apocalypse?" Mel whimpered. He recieved a whack to the back of his head from Chloe.
Shaking his head, Snowball opened up the book and started pouring through its pages. Lifting the book up a little so he could see the cover, Max read, "Scary Legends and Myths? This is going to answer our problems?" Nodding his head, Snowball finally found the page he had been looking for. He beckoned everyone to come over.
"Hey, this is the story you told us the other night!" Buddy exclaimed. Staring blankly at the page, Chloe grumbled, "So... we're being haunted by a demon wolf who kills innocent souls for fun?"
"Like Rajka-" Tiberius started saying but Gidget quickly clamped his beak shut. Hearing the eerie piano music again, she cried, "Norman, stop doing that!" Smiling sheepishly, Norman hopped down from the piano in the room.
"Guys, I'm being serious. If we're being haunted by this dude, we're goners!" Snowball shouted urgently. "Wait, this dude was real?" Max whined, his tail tucked between his legs. The rabbit quietly nodded his head. Heart pounding in his chest, the Jack Russell terrier whimpered fearfully, "What do we do?!"
Sighing, Snowball answered, "I can't remember how one can kill him. This book doesn't say. But what I can say is this... if you see him in your dreams, wake up. And don't fall asleep again after that. Until this guy is dead, no one is safe..."
