Escape

After about four minutes Cassian managed to crack the lock and the dragon stretched once he was out. He seems okay in terms of energy. He had so many scars though from all the spears they've jabbed him with over the years. Still I'm surprised they kept him under control like that all this time. Spears would've been easy enough for him to fight against.

Some day I'll ask him about it, for now we have to get moving. I asked him to lead the way to the Arena. He'll know best where we need to go. I just hope Tyson is okay and managed to get control of the gate.

"When we're almost to the gate I need you to let out a small roar. That will let my comrades know we succeeded and to open the gate for us," I said out loud so Cassian will understand the plan as well. Don't want the poor guy to be startled by a sudden roar.

As we approached I could hear fighting still going on. Were there more guarding the gate than we expected? Hopefully when he hears the dragon he'll wrap things up. If worst comes to worst I'll jump in to help. I nodded for the dragon to proceed as planned and he let out a quick roar sound. It was loud enough to shake the building. Dragons really are something else.

As we approached the gates I could see Tyson deliver the final blow. He waved and apologized for that talking longer than expected. He then pulled the lever to open the gate. Both Tyson and I pulled our cloaks on to conceal our identities and I told the other two to go and get to safety. Cassian hesitated and told me to be careful.

"I will, you both do the same. They'll try to stop you so keep an eye out for spears or other weapons," I said.

'Good bye, Prince. I will never forget this. My name is Lionellous,' The dragon said before picking up Cassian and taking off. Thank god that cage over the arena was taken down. I hoped it would be. Breaking through it would've been easy enough, but would have made us lose valuable time.

The hard part is coming though, now Tyson and I have to get out. It'll be better to sneak past the guards and not get dragged into any prolonged fights. Would it be better to take the shortest route or go back around the long way? The risks are the same so I think the shortest route would be better. I asked Tyson what he wanted to do.

If they go to see if the Dragon is still in it's cage we run the risk of being spotted if we go that way. The same is true if they decide to come directly here where the roar came from. Both ways would be equally risky.

"What if we go up into the bleachers and take that direction out? I mean we could avoid running into them. However once they see these guards and see that the dragon is gone they'll be combing the area top to bottom anyway," Tyson said.

"You think it would work if we stole their uniforms to blend in? It'll be chaos anyway, it might work," I suggested.

"We can hide their bodies above and take their uniforms and weapons. That might actually work," He said. That's the plan we ended up going with. We took the uniforms of the two lowest ranked guards and hid all 4 of them. We then headed out the shortest way.

"Where are you two going?" a guard from a group going the other direction asked.

"The dragon and the whisperer are gone, but we spotted an intruder going back towards the cells. Our other team members headed after them so we're going to cut them off around the other side. There could be more intruders, but we aren't certain," Tyson said and saluted the man. Judging by his uniform he was a top ranked guard, so I also saluted him.

"Understood, get moving before they slip past. I already sent a few men down there myself so go back them up. I'll send a few more to back your team and the rest of us will search the rest of the building," The man said.

"Understood, Sir," we both said, saluted and hurried off before they got suspicious. That was unnerving to say the least. Good thing Tyson is quick on his feet.

Once towards the front where the entrance to the cells was we debated if we should keep up the act or just make a run for it. We kept the talk as if we were guards in case someone over hears us.

"I don't know man, if we try to back them up I feel like we'd get in the way. Should we just go guard the front entrance? The intuders will have to make their way there if they want to get out of here. It's the only way in or out, right? Unless they can fly, which is unlikely since the dragon is gone," I said.

"Yeah, I don't feel like being the reason they escape because we were in the way. Maybe we can find someone higher ranked to back them up and switch positions with them," he replied.

"Can't hurt to try at the very least," I said and we headed for the front. There were indeed two guards stationed at the entrance. They were around the same rank as the uniforms we stole and we shared a look before approaching them.

"They need two more guards to back them up in the Cell area. We're here to take over for you. One intruder was seen heading back through there and they're trying to box that person in," Tyson said in a very serious tone.

"But we had orders to stay here and guard the entrance," The younger one said.

"And I'm saying we have orders to cover for you and that you have new orders to back them up," Tyson said. They looked at each other, nodded and headed off we took up positions like we really were taking over.

"That worked out for us, now if they're the reason the intruder escapes we'll get less of a punishment. All we'll get in trouble for is switching with them and even that would be okay if we manage to stop the intruders here," I said. He nodded.

Now how do we escape from here without drawing attention and before they find the real guards' unconscious bodies? It seems Wallace was able to get away from here. For a lawless town there are actually a lot of guardsmen. Though I bet they're all shady and take bribes to look the other way.
