Maroé

The morning alarm wake us up and we parted ways to get ready for the day. Once I was done I headed down for breakfast and was glad to see it was Valis's turn to make breakfast today. His breakfast food is always the best.

Once everyone was served and we all sat down to eat, Mitch came in to make an announcement to everyone. Thankfully it wasn't anything really bad, good news even.

"Everyone, please listen up. We're getting close to a safe town for us to land at. It's a Dragoniering Town, so I think we should stop for a few days. That fight with the dragon damaged a few systems so we'll need repairs. We also have some of that dragon meat and parts to sell to get supplies as well. We'll be landing in a few hours so I thought I would give you all a heads up, now lets eat," he said.

Everyone seemed to be really excited about it. I don't blame them a few days means we can sleep in proper beds for a few nights. Not to mention take proper baths. The ship has limited hot water so most of the time we take cold showers/baths. It kind of sucks, but we do live in the sky so it's pretty much expected.

"You hear that, Zion? Were you even listening, Dude? We're going to be landing which can only mean were near Maroé, they have hot springs there," Harden said. I haven't talked to Harden much since he's mostly below deck but he also works above deck once in a while.

Hot springs huh? That ought to be nice for a change. Still I'll probably stay close to the ship when we land. I'd rather not be out in public with a target on my head right now. They'll probably ask Neal to hang back for the same reasons too. After all, the most logical place to set up spies to find us would be in any and all towns that allow Dragoniers.

Around Lunch time the town of Maroé came into view and we prepared for a landing. The town's people motioned for us to land in an open field, which everyone thought was really strange. Since I've never been here before I didn't understand why they were concerned. When I asked Mara about it she explained that the landing area for this town has always been the lake. It's odd they had us land elsewhere.

Once we landed we got ready to unload. I went with Mitch to greet the Chief of this village. When we made it outside they were already walking towards our ship.

"Ah, if it isn't The Onyx Crew. Haven't seen you lot in a while and it looks like you have some new faces," an older man said as he shook Mitch's hand.

"It's good to see you again, Chief Greyson, and yes we do. This here is Zion, our new Dragon Whisperer and over there is Neal, he's a former hunter," Mitch said and I nodded saying it was nice meeting them.

"I'm afraid if you came here to sell us some meat we'll have to disappoint you. A Dragon made it into our lake somehow and it's hard to get supplies in and out of our village. We manage with a few ships stopping by, but the river is inaccessible right now. I don't know why it doesn't just swim back down stream, but we've had to have ships land over here now since it wants to try and attack any ships that fly over. We're honestly not sure what to do about this," the man, Chief Grayson, explained.

"I take it not many Whisperers come though here either to get their help. You mind if I give it a try?" I asked him.

"By all means please do, if you can get close enough," the man said. I nodded and headed over right away. At first glance I didn't see anything in their lake, but as soon as I got close it came up out of the water and roared at me. Since they aren't requesting we hunt it it probably hasn't actually hurt anyone. It just seems really on guard.

I met it's gaze and didn't try to look away. If I'm going to find out what's going on I'm going to need it to calm down.

"Easy there, I'm not here to hurt you in any way. I'm here to help you," I explained to it. It didn't respond but it did seem to ease up on it's hostilities, if only a little.

"Great another whisperer, just leave me alone," it growled and I sighed.

"I am afraid that isn't an option at this point. These people can't even get their supplies right now since you're blocking their main means of getting them, you're also scaring flying ships away as well. They're struggling to get by. That's why I've come to talk to you, so I can find out what I can do to resolve this situation. If you need help we can help," I replied back. He studied me for a long moment and then sighed.

"Fine, I suppose I can at least give you an explanation. A hundred years ago this was a water passage and I had gotten separated from my parents. We're a kind of water dragon that cannot fly and I wasn't able to make the jump over a rock ledge. I tried many times and still failed so I decided to go train, after many years I eventually started my own family and it made me start thinking about my parents again. I wanted them to meet what you would call their grandkids. When I reached out through our familial bonds I could feel they were getting much weaker. So I decided to go find them. Unfortunately, after so long this passage is no longer useable, but this was the only way I can even get to where they are and the only way they can get to me," The dragon said.

I see so he can't get to his family because the waterway that was once here has dried up. Why did his parents just leave him like that instead of going back for him? Why didn't they help him over the ledge back then? Dragons really aren't like humans, sometimes I forget that fact.

"Well, anyways. If I'm going to help you with this, then the best option would have to be to bring your parents here. If I take you over, you wouldn't be able to get back and they won't get a chance to meet your kids. I doubt we'd be able to take you there and then bring all of you back, nor do I think we'd be able to take you and your family all over there. So the best option would be to bring your parents to this side. Obviously our ship can probably handle a short trip with one of your parents in tow but I might be able to ask the dragons I've met if they'd be willing to help us," I said to the dragon.

"You're very different from the last Dragon Prince I met. He used his power to enslave his dragons and forced them to do whatever he wanted. He may be a lot of the reason why most dragons to this day don't like to give someone their names. That was nearly 100 years ago when I was still a pup. You on the other hand seem to treat us with respect and honor our freedoms," He said.

"Well that might be because of two things. One my Guardian might likely be dead or something, because I have yet to meet them. Which means I'm pretty clueless about my powers or how all this works. And two, I would never hurt any dragon unless absolutely necessary. After all you're living, breathing, and intelligent creatures," I said.

"I see, well your plan seems like a good one. My only concern is how weak they are, I do not know how they would handle the transportation. I don't really have a way to ask them what they want to do. I can feel them, but I cannot talk to them like I can talk to you," He said. I thought about that for a moment. I doubt he'd give me their names so I can try to talk to them, at least not without their permissions. The only other option I have is to locate them myself, either on foot or ask Captain for a lift.

First, I'll contact the dragons I know and see if they'd be willing to help us out. Most of them though were too far away and didn't want to risk the long journey, Nirosa agreed to help though since she could travel easily in the night. She'd leave Soranos with the other wisperer and the other dragon. Still it'll take her a few days at least to make her way here. Meanwhile, I'll find out where they are and finalize our plan with the others.

"One of the dragons agreed to help us, but it will be a few days before she gets here. I'll talk to my crew about our plan and I'll set out right away to locate your family," I said out loud. The dragon nodded and bowed his head respectfully in thanks.
