Records
The next day Lana and I finished my half of the shopping list first thing, before I headed back to Callum's. I'm about halfway through with no signs of Dad's name yet. I'm starting to doubt that he's even in these records, but I might as well finish looking.
Lana walked with me back to Callum's place. I headed inside and she headed back to the ship. Since Callum doesn't want anyone else seeing these, she wasn't able to come with me. The lady at the counter nodded at me and motioned for me to head back.
I picked up where I left off. When I finally reached the third year, about a year and a half ago something cought my eye. It wasn't Dad's name exactly, but it certainly gives me confirmation he was here. Zion Anthony Lewis. My name, his, and mom's maiden name. I quickly scanned through the last year and a half but it didn't show up again.
The two reasons he'd have to use an alias would be if someone was after him or he didn't 100% trust the person whom he was giving a name. I waited patiently for Callum to return. When he did return it was about 2 hours after I finished looking over everything.
"What's up, Kid? Did you find something?" he asked as he came into the room.
"I did. What do you remember about this?" I asked as he approached me and showed him the book. He seemed to think about it for a minute.
"It was a year and a half ago so not much, but I keep the details of my transactions separate from the books of names. I'll look through the receipts from that date in question, if you want to come back tomorrow," he said.
"That would be a great help, thank you again for letting me look through these," I said and headed back to the ship.
Valis stopped me as I was making my way through the corridors. He asked if the happy expression on my face was because I found something. I told him about what I found and that I'll learn more tomorrow.
I then went to inform Mitch about everything. I told Lana about my suspicion about Callum and I should probably inform my captain as well. Plus if we're planning to leave tomorrow I need a little more time before we depart.
He and Jordan were on the bridge discussing our next move once the repairs were finished. I tapped on the door lightly as I entered. They both looked up at my entrance.
"Sorry to interrupt, but there are a couple things that I need to talk to you about, Mitch. I promise it'll be quick and Jordan can stay I don't mind," I said.
"What, did you find something and are leaving us again?" Jordan asked. I basically told him yes, I might have found something and no I wasn't leaving. Then I went on to explain everything I've learned so far.
"I see. I do agree that it's odd the two have had contact so often. You were smart not to reveal too much. As for tomorrow, I assume you told me this in case we were planning on leaving. Which we are but not until later in the afternoon. So you should have plenty of time, but I'll see if I can extend our stay if I have to. There are a few more minor repairs that we were planning on fixing after we left, that we could work on tomorrow instead," he said. I thanked him and promised I'd try to finish with Callum as soon as possible.
If it really was Dad then that means he is likely still alive and I have a new hope that I'll see him again someday. It sounds like he might have gotten away from those Hunters that were basically enslaving him and might be in hiding. Still using my name might have been too obvious, especially if they know of me. So what was the reason?
"You look lost in thought," Lana said as I, unknowingly, passed her while I was walking back towards my room. I sighed and explained to her what I was trying to figure out.
"True, but maybe he was in a hurry or put on the spot so he didn't have time to think of anything better. I doubt he thought you'd ever find him through Callum so that's my best guess. You'll know more tomorrow, so try not to stress about it too much okay?" she said. I nodded and sighed.
She's so thoughtful, kind, and beautiful. I'm glad I met her and I'm glad she agreed to be my girlfriend. I glanced around the hallway and when I didn't see anyone I pulled her close and kissed her gently. When I pulled away I thanked her and she smiled lovingly at me.
"You're welcome," she whispered softly and hugged me. We stayed in that embrace for a few moments, but parted when we heard voices approaching. "I'll see you later, have a good night," she said and sadly headed off.
I didn't know how difficult it would be to not show public displays on the ship. I mean pretty much everyone could figure out we're dating if they remembered how we parted originally, but I know that isn't the point. The reason was because if we openly admitted it, then there could be someone who could use that against us. Whether it's blaming our relationship for any possible mistakes or if somehow my enemies found out they could use that against me. So it's not only on the ship but we also have to be careful outside as well. Not that I think anyone on the ship would do that, but it's not really like I know every person on the ship extremely well, so who knows. I hope she can be patient with me and wait until I get this thing with the Hunters to calm down.
Once back at my room I sat on my bed and started thinking about tomorrow again. I hope whatever he finds could help me figure out where my father may have gone or why and possibly if he was with someone while he was here. I guess I'll just have to be patient and wait until I see him tomorrow. For now I should try and get some rest.
