Chapter 9: Gametime ✅

So now I have two fans of this book wanting me to update? 0.0 Cool! I've never been very famous on here so its quite flattering and pretty inspiring to say the least. The more I'm asked to update, the more eager I am to make another chapter! :D

"Aren't you glad it's Saturday?"

The question sort of took you by surprise so you froze, spoon laden with small cookie shaped cereals almost to your open mouth. You put them down after processing what he'd asked. What could you say?

Food+ a handsome face= distractions.

"Yeah, I guess I am. I don't have to go into work or anything," you said as a reply, taking a napkin from beside your bowel and wiping off some whipped cream you'd just noticed was on the corner of your mouth.

"Hey, I got an idea!" he cheered, jumping up with his index finger in the air. "You could help me with a new video for my channel!"

You tilted your head and looked at him curiously, a few of your side bangs falling across your eyes, but you quickly fixed that with a swipe from your hand.

"Me? Why?"

He shrugged and pretended to play it off.

"Pfft, I dunno. Maybe cause I wanna make a video with you? It'd be fun! We could do something simple like Minecraft or Tug the Table... Maybe that Roast Meat deal! I'm sure they came up with a few more goodn's by now."

"Alright I guess," you said with a small chuckle. "What do you want to play?"

"Hmm....." He tapped his foot on the floor while stroking an imaginary Gandalf beard. "Oh! How about Rocket League?"

"Isn't that the game you and Jack have played recently?" You asked, remembering a few episodes you'd watched the past week. You had to be careful with your Internet usage though; you were on a limited plan.

"Yeah!"

"Okay, I'll give it a try."

"To my new recording room!" he cheered happily, turning around and thrusting an index finger towards the sky as he marched onwards.

"Um, Mark?" He was going the wrong way, towards his bedroom in fact.

"No time for powdered noses! To the other room!" And so on he marched, you following him shortly after with an amusing shake of your head.

After he'd explained the basics to you, the game was simple enough. You both weren't very good, but that's what made it fun.

Every time he'd miss and utter a curse word, you'd mutter "language" under your breath. He must have caught on at some point because he eventually stopped.

"Boom! In your face 'Booper Dooper!'" you cried triumphantly, jumping up and throwing your arms into the air in victory. "I won!" In the grueling last seconds of the game, you'd bounced the ball from the afore mentioned car and scored a goal on your own, earning your team the final point.

"We're on the same team, (Y/N)! That was me!"

You sat back down and saw, indeed, that he was playing the car he'd dubbed the "'Booper Dooper," probably named after Jack's when he'd played with the man.

"Oh," you said, looking down shamefully. All this time you'd thought that he was on the opposing team... "Hey, that means we won though!"

Mark sighed and shook his head, smiling in amusement. "Yeah, I guess. Wanna play some more?"

You shook your head. "I'd rather spectate this time and watch a master at work."

"Master? Where?! Maybe he can show me how to play good!" He looked around frantically before looking back at your annoyed expression and laughing. Soon, you joined him. He had a contagious laugh, one you'd grown quite fond of recently. It was warm, hearty, safe. Him.

How long had you been playing, anyway? It didn't seem like long.

"An hour?!"

Mark jumped at your exclamation and stifled a laugh. "Yeah, so?"

"That's a long 'Let's Play' for Rocket League," you replied.

"I still have to edit it..."

"Oh!"

"So it'll be, like a thirty or so minute episode."

"Wow, how time flies..."

"Wanna play a different game?" he prompted and you tilted your head thoughtfully. You were always fond of survival games...

"What survival games do you have?"

Mark snapped his fingers and went back to his computer, accessing your computer on his left with his own and placing a file there.

"I've been meaning to play this, but never got to it," he said finally, opening the game on his computer and then yours. "It's a little like Forest, but a lot different."

You looked at him curiously as you looked at the loading screen. Just what game was this?
