Here we will outline comment expectations for Dreamland Rush. Failure to meet the expectations can lead to club removal. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or in Discord!

General Comment Statement

Dreamland Rush is a casual comment type of club, in which you leave 7+ inline comments through the entire narrative text of a chapter. Comments are to be genuine, despite this being a club with less strict requirements.

What Are Casual Comments?

Casual comments are interactive outright silly comments. You're focusing more on having fun and enjoying yourself with these types of comments.

Example types of comments include: responding to characters like a wonderful dork, expressing your positive feelings toward specific passages, theory crafting, thinking about how you would have reacted different in a situation.

Comments should NOT be critical or critiquing. Although these are valid types of comments, this club is not meant for them. If you want clubs where you either give or receive critical feedback, you'd be better off with another of our clubs. Dreamland Exchange and Dreamland Guilds are specifically for critical feedback, while Dreamland Hunt does have the option to prefer or allow critiques.

What are Inline Comments?

Inline Comments are comments you make WITHIN the text itself. They are used to react or remark on a specific part of the narrative.

On desktop, you will make one by hitting the plus-mark beside of a paragraph on the lower right side. On mobile, you will hold down on the paragraph until a speech bubble appears in the lower right corner.

What Do You Mean by Entire Narrative Text?

Keep in mind, this is Wattpad. People include non-narrative chapters, such as aesthetics, author notes, glossaries, etc. These do NOT count as narrative text. They are additive, and you should not be commenting on them. They DO NOT COUNT toward your assignments.

Now, to address the 'entire' part of this statement. We are aware that we only require you to do 7 inlines minimum. However, your comments should be spread out through the ENTIRE chapter. There shouldn't be a large chunk of story left after your final comment.

Additionally, if you only achieve the bare minimum of 7 comments, they should all be on the narrative parts of a chapter itself, not headings or author's notes at the end. Those should be extra comments, not part of your bare minimum 7.

What Counts as Genuine?

Please keep in mind, casual commenting does NOT mean low effort commenting. Yes, it takes less effort than critiquing, but you should still be putting in effort to be interactive with the story.

A good rule of thumb with commenting is that you should always comment for others how you wish for them to comment for you. Would you want people to leave 7 comments that feel like they could be made on any other story? Or that are only 3-5 words long each time and an emote tacked on?

We're aware that not everyone is spectacular at commenting, but you should still make an effort to show you're trying.

Here are a couple of guidelines on what NOT to do if you want to come across as genuinely commenting:

✨ We cannot, nor would we, force you to comment over 7 comments, as that is the club requirement, and we make it that because we understand not everyone is a person who comments every few paragraphs. However, if you're going to do 7 and no more, make sure that they feel authentic. Perhaps talk about more than what's just in that paragraph, but the last bit between this comment and your last.

✨ We mentioned before that the comments should be throughout the entire narrative. This does not mean you leave a few comments at the top and a few at the bottom. In general, there should not be huge gaps between each inline, as it then looks like you're just cutting the chapter into sections to see the bare minimum you can comment while still having it be 'throughout.'

✨ In general, please do your best to take your time with the chapter. More often than not, it shouldn't take you five minutes to read and comment on a chapter. We understand sometimes people read offline then comment when they get wifi access again. First, this doesn't mean the quality of your comments should drop. Second, it might be worth letting the person know if this is ever you, so they don't feel like disrespected by you rushing through their chapter.

What If Someone Doesn't Do These Things?

Fairies do their best to check reports, but we're only volunteers, and we have our own busy lives. More often than not, our primary focus when checking is that there's 7+ comments and a couple of tricks to attempt to see that they're throughout the chapter. On the second bit, our tricks have failed us at times, but we do what we can without checking every single paragraph the comment is attached to.

Because of this, we do miss things. We don't know how quickly someone read, and we don't know the context behind what people are commenting on. Some comments may be more critical or nonsensical, and we wouldn't know.

As such, if you believe someone is being ingenuine with their interactions in the club, please open a club ticket on Discord. If it happens once, we'll investigate and nudge as needed. If it happens again, we will assess if being in a club is right for you.
