Chapter 7
I should've brought a sweatshirt.
I leaned into Eric to stay relatively warm, for I had foolishly left without grabbing a sweatshirt or at least a long-sleeved shirt. He had an arm wrapped around my waist already and for some reason I felt safe in his arms as we walked towards the prison. If we weren't walking towards the Pack's prison it would've been a pleasant walk, minus the cold air.
I shivered as another cold gust of wind whipped up, it tugging at the ponytail that had been put up quickly before leaving as well as making me shuffle even closer to Eric. "If you're cold you could wear my shirt."
I shook my head to say no, but he had already stopped. "Eric you don't have to. I'm fine." Another shiver went through my body and I unconsciously moved closer again to him, placing my hands on his chest. Which I found out happened to have no fabric covering the toned muscle that was usually hidden.
My cheeks heated up at the realization, a blue long-sleeved shirt came into view as he lowered it to my hands. I took a step back before taking his long-sleeved shirt gratefully, mumbling my thanks which apparently means to pick me up or something.
For I was picked up once the shirt was covering my cold torso and tossed over a strong shoulder like a sack of flour. I couldn't help but to laugh while hitting his back with my fists and kicking my legs. He let out a groan and I quickly stopped, bracing my hands against his bare back to steady myself. "Did I hurt you? I'm sorry if I did. I didn't mean to."
I felt him shiver beneath my hands before he replied. "No you didn't Rose. But uh... your dad... is watching us." He slowly set my feet back on solid ground, then pulled me close as we began walking again. I looked up at him, utterly confused at what he meant. My father would have been in his office working or already in bed for the night.
He must have sensed me staring at him for he looked down at me and smiled, "What?"
I looked away quickly, another blush heating my face. "Nothing, it's just... aren't you cold?"
He chuckled low, sending shivers down my spine, "No. You will find out in a few days that once you had your first shift it's hard to get cold."
Before I could inquire anything about shifting, a guard walked up to us and bowed his head. "He's in the interrogation room. There will be two guards in the room with him and one outside the door. They should know why you're here otherwise just state your business."
I smiled at the guard, not giving Eric a chance to reply to the guard standing at the entrance. "Thank you. We'll be sure to do so if they're unaware." The guard blushed slightly and nodded his head, then went back to his post.
Eric's hand slid away from my waist and touched my hand gently, looking down at our hands I grabbed his with mine. He didn't look at me, but he smiled, and tugged my hand gently to lead the way.
When we reached the door to the interrogation room the guard raised his brow as if in curiosity but said nothing while opening the door to the room. One of the guards inside were trying to get him to talk while the other guard looked rather bored as he leaned against a wall. The prisoner looked away from the man trying to get him to talk when we walked in and started grinning like a bobcat.
I looked around the room nervously and apparently to the guards that meant they could leave, because that's exactly what they did.
Eric grabbed one by the arm before he could leave, they watched each other before Eric let go of him and turned towards me, "They didn't get anything out of him, the only thing he said was what your father said earlier."
I nodded slowly and grabbed his hand for reassurance, the prisoner growled low almost as soon as my hand had made contact with Eric's. My head snapped in his direction and I finally got a good look at him. He had shaggy carmel hair and bright blue eyes, his skin was kissed lightly by the sun and his shirt clung to his torso and arms. I looked down quickly when my eyes met his and he smirked.
I glanced up to Eric, who was scowling at him, "Who are you and what are you doing on Moonpack's land." My attention returned to watch the prisoner fiddle with the chain bonding his hands together.
"Oh you know wandering around, just like any other rogue." His voice sent shivers down my spine, it wasn't a bad feeling. Where do I know him from...
"Good to know but what is your name." Eric didn't seem one to be easily annoyed, but probably because of the blow to the jaw, he was definitely getting annoyed. And the prisoner knew it, just as I did.
A smirk tugged on the prisoner's lips, "Who cares what my name is. For all you know I may lie."
Eric growled slightly, I squeezed his hand to try and calm him at least a little. But it only gained me a growl from the god of a man sitting chained. And that growl was enough for Eric to snap.
The newly named Beta lunged at the prisoner, grabbing him by the throat and hoisting him from his seat while growling menacingly. "What. Is. Your. Problem. Rose didn't do anything to you. So STOP your growling. Or I'll give you something to growl about."
I stood there in shock, unsure what to do as the scene unraveled before me. The prisoner struggled, eyes flashing a color I assumed belonged to his wolf's before he shot a glance towards me. His face softened and eyes returned to their bright hue of blue as he stopped struggling in the hold of the Beta.
The cease of struggling and the prisoner's change of focus must have caught Eric's attention, for he too turned to look back at me. He almost immediately let go of the prisoner before returning to my side and giving me a quick hug as he walked out. I stare dumbfoundedly at the door for a few minutes after he left, not knowing what I should do and not being a fan of this situation.
"My name's Damien. Sorry about punching your boyfriend, thought you were someone else."
My attention snapped back to him as he introduced himself, watching him carefully while gripping my forearm awkwardly. "Umm hi... uh he's not my boyfriend."
He seemed relieved to hear that, taking a seat back in the chair he had been sitting in before Eric had tried to strangle him. His hands gestured to the chair across from him, "Please have a seat."
Hesitantly, I moved closer towards him to take the seat which he had offered. Almost as soon as I had reached the chair, I was met by a low growl that had me jumping and nearly falling over the chair instead.
The man's face softened once again as he focused back onto my own face, "I'm sorry. But why are you wearing his shirt?"
Looking down at the shirt I was wearing, I questioned why he cared about what shirt that was keeping me warm. "It's warm and I forgot to grab myself sweatshirt before leaving." My attention returned to him in time to catch the rogue looking me over slowly and making me uneasy. "Your birthday in a few days?"
I nodded slowly and whilst moving towards the door instead of taking the chair that he had offered moments earlier, "Two days. Tomorrow they're setting up for the party." I couldn't help but to smile at the thought, looking over at Damien to see that he was smiling as well.
My head tilted down in attempt to hide the blush that more than likely was painted on my cheek. "Uh... So my father told me that you would only talk to me. How come?"
He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck, as if something was bothering him and he was trying to rub it away. "It's not my place to say, not yet." His gaze suddenly snapped up once more to my face as if realization about something had hit him, "Did you say your father told you?"
I nodded slowly, watching his reaction while not quite understanding the meaning of his words. "Shìt." The one word was nearly mumbled under his breath, I almost missed. I tilted my head slightly to the right and opened my mouth to ask him what he meant, but a guard opened the door to say that my time was up. Nodding my head to the guard's words, I turned back to face Damien. "Uh.. nice meeting you... I guess."
Before he could respond, I was out the door and walking to Eric who had waited outside in the hall. We walked outside in silence as we left the prison, his arm eventually wrapping itself around my waist again. I sighed softly while leaning into him, suddenly drained from the late hour and the confusion that was racing throughout my body. Eric turned his eyes down, confusion written all over his face that I laughed softly, "It's nice having something normal."
He seemed to be content with the answer as he pulled me closer into his side. Which I didn't mind as much as I had earlier, he was so warm.
Once we reached my house, he lead me inside, passed my parents who were in the living room, and up the stairs towards my own room. His arm disappeared from around me as we stepped into the bedroom, at the sight of my cozy bed a yawn escaped my lips.
"You should get some sleep." He chuckled softly and I looked in his general direction while shaking my head, "No....... we didn't get to hang out........." At that point I was pouting, just like a child.
His hands rested on my shoulders as he led me to my bed, a smile evident in his voice. "You want to hang out?"
I simply nodded, taking a seat as my legs bumped into the edge of the mattress. "Let's have a sleepover..."
"Your mother and father would not allow that." I heard a slight longing in his voice, so I tugged on his arm and looked up hopefully at him. "Pleeaase..."
His breath tickled my ear as he leaned down to whisper softly, "Alright. I'll return in a few minutes. Just leave the window open so I can come back in." I nodded enthusiastically as he stood to leave. "Goodbye Rose, I'll see you tomorrow."
I nodded again as his footsteps moved away and the door to my room was closed and as soon as it was, I rushed over to the window to open it. Then I returned to my warm bed and crawled under the blankets. As promised, a few minutes later Eric had climbed through the window and shut it behind him.
I smiled sleepily and moved over so he could have room on my bed, the blankets rose slightly as he crawled under the blankets before pulling me close. As his body heat washed over me, I sighed in content and laid my head against his chest.
The last thing I remember before drifting off into sleep was strong finger gently stroking my hair and soft lips giving me a light kiss
A scream of agony left my body as my bones snapped before mending themselves into a new form. Whispers of encouragement kept repeating as a hand stroked my hair, but they didn't seem to calm me down in the slightest. My back rose off of the ground, then suddenly everything went black.
Something nudged my side, repeating its action until I opened my eyes in annoyance. But was only greeted by a large black paw.
My heart rate quickly picked up as I slowly looked up and saw the face of a wolf. I screamed in fright, but closed my jaws when my ears were met with a yip. Forgetting about the wolf I looked around, trying to figure out where it had come from. What was that? Please don't be another wolf..
"It's alright. I'm right here." I relaxed upon hearing his voice, now searching for him. Feeling another nudge I pulled my attention back to the wolf standing before me. After trying to sit up a few times and couldn't, I frowned in confusion. "What the heck."
The wolf shook its head, releasing a sound that resembled a chuckle of amusement. "Use all of your paws, not just two."
I did as told and then realised that he said paws and not feet, my gaze snapped down to see strong and furry legs, turning my head around I see only more fur. After turning back to the wolf and taking a closer inspection, I gasped. It had his eyes. I took a hesitant step towards him once I was standing on all.. four.. legs and became braver as his head rose.
The large male took a step towards me and nuzzled my neck affectionately, I sighed in relief before nuzzling him in return.
I yipped in surprise as sharp teeth nipped my at ear, but not enough to draw blood. Jumping back in shock, I glared at him accusingly but only earned a low rumbling of a laugh. "I was just playing and still am." The black wolf jumped at me, causing me yelp in surprise before turning and running off.
Pawsteps pounded behind me and then just suddenly, disappear. I turned around only to see nothing. Where did he go? I can still smell him...
I didn't have to wait longer than a few seconds to find out as he jumped out of a bush and tackled me to the ground easily. I blinked up at him in surprise, scrunching up my face as he licked me before quickly getting off while wagging his tail like an insanely happy dog.
I stood up and pressed against him, nipping his ear and nuzzling his neck. After a few moments of loving exchange, a deer shot past and we took off after it in unison. Carefree and happy. Since he knew what he was doing and was just faster he pounced on it, tackling the doe to the ground.
He held it down with his large paws on its chest and looked at me expectantly, as if on instinct I lunged forward and bit down on the deer's neck. I held on as it squirmed around, a metallic taste filling my mouth as its attempts to escape ebbed away. I let go of the deceased animal and licked my muzzle while humming at the taste. "Mmm."
He chuckled again and sidled up to me, I watched him and lowered myself to the ground. I didn't think anything about it until he nudged my shoulder with a look of amusement on his face. "You don't have to submit to me love. Once we find more wolves you will be their Luna and I their Alpha. We are one, we were made for one another by the Moon Goddess who watches over us lovingly."
I slowly got to my paws and nuzzled under his neck thankfully, but he stiffened as the wind changed direction and brought a new scent to us. Stepping back, I caught a whiff of what he had moments earlier. Tilting my head I looked at him in curiosity, "What is it."
His icy blue eyes focused back on me, full of fright and determination. "Your brother."
