chapter 10
Over my resting body was a shadow, tugging at my body to wake up. Reluctantly, I did so, though I didn't want to open my eyes. It could be the school nurse, questioning me and my desires. It could be Kai, belittling my choices again. It could be Knox, dragging me to the afterlife. But it was none of them. In my obscured vision laid Spencer, holding me in his arms in an almost angelic matter. My face heated up again as my eyes shot open. A smile slowly grew on my face, "H-hi..."
"You're in a sleep state, by the way," Spencer informed me.
"I already know," I laughed quietly, whining. My head burned upon pressing a hand against it. "What happened?" I asked. "Why am I hurting...?"
"Someone threw a ball at your head," He stated softly. "It wasn't a very hard ball but I'm guessing that guy used all of his force."
"I guess I'm just... fragile," I squirmed in his arms, enjoying the contact with fur against fur. "So uh... why are you holding me?"
"Well, um... nobody else was coming to get you, so I did."
"So you picked me up and held me bridal style?"
"Bridal style?"
"You're holding me like we just got married and you picked me up..." My cheeks heated up with more harshness, glancing at his arms and how they held me
"O-oh..." Spencer blinked. Giggling, I cupped his cheeks to see if his were hot too. They were.
People began pouring back into the room, all standing in front of their lockers though only one approached us, Kai. He had a hand on his hip while the other was toying with its own fingers, attempting to shorten the other fingernails that were also painted black. "Hey, you two," He waved at us, sitting on the bench that laid in front of us. "Good job with the win, new kid and thanks for making sure he was okay. I usually have him on my team."
"Thanks," Spencer made a small smile. "I was planning on recruiting Thomas too."
"Are you his boyfriend?" Kai asked, stabbing a knife into my chest. They're already assuming that we're a couple? I guess I could see why they'd think that, yet it's all just coincidences that we're in these situations, right? There's no way that they'd default the gay guy to have a boyfriend when another boy carries them away from the battlefield of balls without having better evidence than just one incident that could be considered even somewhat of an inkling. It was just a coincidence. Spencer should not say that we are.
"Er..." Spencer looked down at me. "Well, do you wanna try𑁋"
Oh my god. I sighed, "A relationship is a big decision, Spencer. I don't think we should just because you're really nice and exercise a lot𑁋"
"You two sound like you're in love," Kai chuckled. "Well, hope you two end up dating. I think it'd work well. Maybe you should look at his dreams... or something."
"Maybe," Spencer shrugged.
As Kai walked away to his locker, I crossed my arms, staring at Spencer sternly, "Why would you say that? People are just going to hurt you now too𑁋"
"The people here don't seem to be that bad here," Spencer stated blankly.
"There's a lot of bad people here that you haven't met yet," I warned. "And if my parents hear anything about this, they'll... they might hurt me."
"How so?" Spencer gasped.
"They just..." I looked away. "I'll tell you later. Did... did you want me to come over again?"
"Huh?'
"You said maybe to what he said."
"About the dream watching thing?"
"Yeah..." I returned eye contact with him. "Should we?"
"If you want to," Spencer smiled.
I sat up, sliding onto his lap. "Then fine," I crossed each of my arms. "We can but we aren't dating."
"Why not?" Spencer blinked.
"We'll both get hurt," I sighed. "Maybe if you truly believe it could work, then possibly. It just can't be public, which it already is if we start now."
"Then no," Spencer looked down. "Maybe if the dream goes well?"
"If we don't make it public," I reinforced. "And if it goes well, sure."
Spencer gave himself a small fist bump with his unused hand, smirking, "Yes..."
"If it works," I crossed my arms. "Dreams reveal true intentions, I'll let you know."
"Would you not trust me otherwise?"
"I... have my reasons," I sighed. Reasons I'd like not to tell. I got off of Spencer's lap, stepping up to my locker to retrieve my previously worn clothes. "Come on," I faintly smiled. "Let's not be late to lunch."
"You can be late to lunch?" Spencer laughed, standing up and producing his clothes.
"You can," I genuinely giggled as I removed a few articles of clothing. I may not look as good as him when I replace my clothes but at least I get to watch him dress.
A part of me wishes this won't work.
