chapter -3

Heaps of blankets, tears, and boxes scattered the floor of Thomas' homestead, seen through the shade of the light that waned swiftly. My eyes peered through the window that allowed my sight to reach through the living room and to the bedroom that had its door wide open for me to see. They were crying for a good minute before they finally calmed down, beginning to comfort one another. It felt as if I was being soothed by the faint glow that emanated from their bodies, pink seeping from the spider's pores.

My undesirable body merely fit for shadows solely clung to the glass, blank white eyes staring deep into the abyss lightened by lamps. A bright, alien object slipped into my bubble.

Curious, I looked to my left to see an atrociously luminous pink orb that slowly approached me, twirling and spinning an intense light around in the darkened space it invaded so rudely. A shriek escaped my lips in shock as the ball came closer to me. Despite each hiss and yell, nobody appeared to hear me as it shot into my chest.

Softly, my body struck the ground, twitching and squeaking. The orb floated above my body, as if judging my very existence, what I owned, and where I belonged. My empty eyes stared down at the hole in my chest filled with grey fur that my desirable form owned. It was as if the orb erased my true, hideous form, exposing what I strictly believe would never be me. In a flash of pink light, maroon liquid pooled around me as if I was thrown into a deep pond of blood. Rushing toward my face, the ball circled around my visage as it dropped a single, small glittery piece of itself over my head. Gently, it pressed against my forehead like a truly meaningful kiss.

My undesirable form melted into the red below me as the maroon pool seeped into the dirt below, vanishing from my vision as it all drained into the depths of the world. I sat up, staring at the orb as it began an invisible trek away from my place. For some reason, it didn't immediately go away. It stayed just a moment longer than it had to, watching me closely, before it finally flew far from my shadowy corpse and my desirable yet deceitful form. Perhaps whatever they did to me was because it knew me and hated what I've become. Too bad I don't know who that ball of hideous light would be.

I rose from the reddened blades of grass to peer back inside the window to show me that time had passed far more than I realized. Thomas was distributing cans into the cabinets and Spencer's sister's room had been relocated to the living room of this place. Spencer left the door to his and Thomas' new room open, letting me see as he placed monitors and cleaning sprays. I tried to cling to the window so that I may view their ugly apartment moving job but I could no longer accomplish that with these realistic fingers. It was now impossible for me to force my way inside through darkness and shade. I could no longer claw my body into nightmarish shapes. All I was now was everyone else. Now I'm merely someone in a sleep state in their wicked terminology.

Despite my eyes so adjusted to the stalking of prey, now I see that I'm merely a stalker.

With a parting push, I shoved myself away from the window. I could no longer cling to the lives of others, whether it be the dream watcher's hatred for specific people diminish into empathy and the acceptance of finally letting go of what will eventually be a fleeting memory (What he does with that stupid inheritance will be his choice and his alone). I will no longer look into other's lives as if I was watching that blinding television screen that humans love to hang up in every corner of the world. What was done to me has revived me as a new being. That's what it must have done. It opened my life open like a chest buried in a river that extends past infinity.

My body trembled as it stepped forward, quivering and shaking uncontrollably. I leaned down, staring at the ground that seemed so different from how it was before. Moonlight blanketed the cracking sidewalk in a soft blue glow, showing the light that was always eating the darkness that was supposedly under my nose. In fact, there were lights all around me, glowing from the street's lamps and dotting the sky in an apparent display of beauty I always ignored. It felt as if the stars were brightening me, smiling at me.

Floating through the wind, the pink orb whizzed into the sky, flying further and further into the fiery night with immense glory. It rained its whimsical glow upon me, tracing a smile far into the air above me as it became one with space.

I tumbled into the apartment wall with a sharp inhale, my feet misplaced in an unfortunate fashion. Pain such as this was new to me. Falling off of a building didn't hurt me as much as the light yet the light's splendor was clearly positive for me, healing me. Chirps and bellows of nighttime creatures filled my ears that I couldn't feel as I got to my feet. The sound of a door being thrown open then invaded my hearing. I resisted the urge to see who had executed such a sound, returning to the breaking sidewalk to continue my trek. "Hey!" A voice intruded on that desire, loud and clear to me. "What happened to that weird... creepy look?"

Slowly, I faced the voice, seeing Thomas with Spencer's hand in his. I glanced to the ground and back up at Thomas, his pink covering matching that of the orb. "...Were you the one who put a hole through my chest?" I questioned as my eyes stared down the hole in my suit, something I rarely notice myself wearing unless I properly alter my form.

"No...?" Thomas tilted his head. "Is that why you're𑁋"

"It is," I nodded, clenching my sides with my hands. "...Why are you two out in the dead of night?"

"Well, we're almost finished unpacking a-and Lisa fell asleep, so we were going out on a short date," Spencer smiled. "For food, mainly."

"Shouldn't you be worrying about your... nevermind," I shook my head. "I suppose you two finally have everything situated?"

"I guess," Thomas giggled.

"Well, I do have some questions, but for the most part, I think this is the most happy I've felt before!" Spencer chuckled. "It's kind of surreal."

"That's nice to hear," I nodded.

"Well, ah... do you need a place to stay?" Thomas asked. "You seem a bit... dishevelled."

"...No," I answered bluntly. "I believe I will have to repair myself on my own. Perhaps I could grow to become more independent."

"Are you not gonna invade my sister's room again?" Spencer chuckled subtly.

"Not anymore," I nodded briefly, turning away from the two efficiently.

"Where are you going?" Thomas questioned, a dash of odd desperation in his tone.

"I'm going to find a home for myself," I responded before walking away from them to a land of the unknown that may never be tainted by starry-eyed spiders, bedridden deers, and tumultuous tarantulas ever again... well, other than myself, of course.

After all, this is my most desirable form: myself. Acting like a creep to live out some nightmare of an internal prophecy can be ultimately self-destructive, after all.

Perhaps I could study Biology. I could learn a thing or two about that dastardly dream spider that has been haunting my subconscious since years ago. At least he and that deer who dreamt together so often may continue finding peace in their life I long forgotten.
