2: A Proposition

"I'm not sure what you mean..." you tried.

The man before you just laughed. "Like hell, you aren't. You know exactly what I'm talking about."
You stayed silent, praying that this was a nightmare and you would wake up at any second.

With a huff, he continued. "Look, I'm sorry if I'm being pushy. But I'm incredibly confused right now. A complete stranger stopped me on the streets this morning and warned me that I shouldn't go in to work on time. I was going to ignore it, but there was something in your eyes... it was like you were begging me not to go. And then you just disappeared."

Your hand came up to touch the back of your neck as you listened to the person before you relay his side of the story.

"I continued on my way to work...but then I saw a cafe about a block from my building and I don't know what came over me but I stopped in. I got a coffee and some breakfast and then I ate inside. By the time I got to the office, everyone was in shock."

You'd never done anything like this before. Sure, your instincts had saved people from heart ache before but never had you saved someone's life. You were almost in shock.

"How did you know, how could you tell that something like that was going to happen?" He paused. "Wait, are you psychic?"

You looked up sheepishly at him, searching for the words you needed to explain yourself. But to be honest, they did not exist.

"Psychic's not the word I would use. I don't have a crystal ball and I definitely didn't plan on saving your life." You murmured

The man across from you chuckled. "Well, you could've fooled me." He said with a smile. "So how does it work?"

"Well... I'm not entirely sure. I mean it's not like I can tell the words that are about to come out of your mouth. I can't read your mind. And I can't even do it all the time, only on select occasions... when something big is about to happen. Although, the more I'm around someone the easier it gets."

"But how did you know that the elevator would fall?" He asked, leaning forward eagerly.

You were shocked at his excitement. "You don't think I'm...a freak?" You asked, confusion seeping from every word.

"I think it makes me want to know more." He said, leaning back and resting his hands on the table. You were reminded of how pretty he was once more. "But seriously. How could you have known that the elevator would fall?"

"I didn't." You admitted finally. "It's less like clairvoyance and more in line with... instinct, if that makes any sense. I don't know what's going to happen and when just that something will happen and soon. And it's not so much in my head as it is in my stomach."

"But you knew it would happen at work?" He pointed out.

"Well that aspect is sort of like blurting out an accidental guess and then getting it right." You explained, scratching once more at the nape of your neck.

"You don't seem very comfortable with this." He stated after a few incredibly awkward minutes of silence.

"Well, I'm not really...I don't typically share this information with people." You sighed, examining your nail beds for like the 50th time in 15 minutes

"Oh, god, I'm sorry, I haven't even introduced myself. I'm Seungkwan, Boo Seungkwan."

"Y/N." You answered grabbing and shaking the hand that he'd offered to you. "I'm really very sorry about my mother setting up this whole thing. You're probably very busy and she has it in her head that I won't be happy until I'm married."

"I believe my mother and your mother are co conspirators. Did your mother guilt trip you into coming, as well?" He asked, as a waiter approached the table. "A bottle of Moscato, please."

"Does G.D. Vajra Moscato d'Asti suit your tastes?"

"Sounds perfect." You answered, quickly and the waiter was off.

"I believe I recall my mother saying something about pulling a lot of strings to get me this date..." you mused, a smile coming to your face as you realized that Seungkwan was in the very same boat as you.

"As if." He chuckled. "My mother's been throwing me at every woman she can get her hands on. In the last month, I honestly went to at least 20 sogaetings to try and appease her."

"Oh god," you groaned, being able to relate. "Y'know there comes a point when you've gone on so many blind dates that they cease to be blind?"

"I must hear this story." Seungkwan said with a grin, leaning his head on his hands as he scooted forward.

The waiter returned with the moscato and two glasses, pouring as the two of you laughed. "Would you like a few more minutes?"

"That would be lovely." You answered with a grin. "I worked at a coffee shop in high school, and literally last month, she set me up on a blind date with the boss's son that I used to work with." You groaned, remembering the embarrassment the two of you had. "Needless to say, it was the fastest sogaeting I've ever been on. We saw each other, apologized profusely and left." You laughed, reaching for the glass of moscato to take a sip.

"I'm amazed that you could carry on living after a moment such as that." He chuckled, sipping from his own wine glass.

"Honestly, it isn't me you should be amazed with. One would think that after a blunder like that, I would get a little reprieve from the sogaeting scene. She had me on another blind date two days later." You shook your head, downing the rest of the the glass, as you perused the menu.

"It sounds like we both need to get our mothers off our backs." Seungkwan chuckled, pouring more moscato into your cup.

"Cheers to that." You said, as the two of you clinked glasses. "So what's your spot?"

"My spot?" he questioned, smoothly flagging down the waiter.

"Your spot, y'know the place you've been on the most blind dates at?" You prodded, a mischievous smile coming to your lips.

"I assure you, I don't have one." He said, mimicking the grin on your own face.

"Are we ready to order?" The waiter said, coming to the table.

"I'll have the shrimp scampi, please." You said, folding the menu quickly and handing it to him.

"And you, sir?" The waiter asked.

"I'll have the usual, Oliver." Seungkwan answered, his grin growing almost Cheshire-like as he spoke.

Your jaw dropped with an audible "ugh." He turned back to you with a guilty smile and you shook your head. "So this is the usual place, eh?" You laughed.

He gave you a debonair smile. "I apologize for my bluff... but your face was worth it." He chuckled.

"Man, Save someone's life and this is how they repay you" you feigned sadness, but the smile returned to your face quickly. "So, what do you do?" You asked. "My mother merely told me you were a chaebol and a CEO of a company, but what company?"

"Boo Enterprises. We do quite a bit, but we're most known for our skincare and cosmetics brand from Jeju Island." He answered.

"I see, and is that the skincare brand you use?" You asked without thinking.

He gave you a questioning smile. "It is, why do you ask?"

"Um, well, this morning... you had... really nice skin." You mumbled, grabbing the glass of wine to cover your face. It was a real shame that the damn thing was clear.

Seungkwan chuckled. "I see. So while I'm straying from my daily routine that would have gotten me killed, you're worrying about wha tI use for skin care?"

You cracked a smile at his teasing tone. "I'm only human."

He grinned at that. The rest of dinner went quite the same way, the two of you laughing and having a good time. By the time the check came, you both had had your fair share of the moscato, three empty bottles sat at the table between you. Your thoughts were fuzzy and you were a little more blunt than usual but otherwise, there was no effect from the alcohol.

You'd recognized the beginning of a wine buzz and slowed down, but Seungkwan had downed the entirety of the last bottle by himself.

You reached for the check, slipping your card in the pamphlet as the waiter came by for it. When he returned, you tucked the card into your wallet and stood up. "Mr. Boo, I think I should escort you home."

He chuckled. "I think you may be right." He stood up fast and couldn't quite balance himself so you grabbed his hand to correct it. This made him giggle to himself.

He wasn't drunk, just tipsy and more talkative than he had been at first. You smiled despite yourself at where the conversation had drifted to now. "So, your clothing business in Hongdae, do you sell men's clothing?"

"I do, but it's not really a business. More of a street shop, if you ask me." You tried to correct him as the two of you exited the restaurant.

"Ah, modesty. How refreshing. I'm going to have to stop in sometime." He announced.

"It's nothing you'd really want to wear, it's more everyday stuff. Not the kind of clothing you seem to have on hand." You answered, gesturing nonchalantly to the dress clothes that currently rested snugly against his frame.

As you stepped out into the brisk night air, it sobered you up. It must have had the same effect on Seungkwan as his tone became more serious. "I, too, dress casually from time to time you know."

"Then perhaps I do have something for you." You recovered, a smile lighting your face.

"I'm feeling rather capable of getting myself home now, but would you prefer to escort me?" He said, eyeing the road.

You shrugged. "You're a big boy, I don't see any reason in why you wouldn't be able to get home safely."

"As do I. Y'know, Y/N, I don't think I've ever had so much fun on a blind date." He murmured after a few moments.

"I assure you, I feel the same. It was a pleasure to dine with someone that understands." You nodded. You were preparing your goodbye because just as all bad sogaetings finally come to an end, so too must the good ones. But just as you were about to say it, Seungkwan paused.

"What if there was a way to get both of our mothers off of our backs?" He said after a moment's hesitation.

"If only such a path existed, I would have tried it long ago." You laughed, shivering in the night air.

"But there is. We could get together." He answered.

"Say, what now?" You deadpanned.

"Well, I mean, we both had a good time. You said so yourself that it was fun. It's a win-win-win situation! I get more time to be a workaholic like I want, you get more free time to spend doing whatever you want to do, and our mothers get to think that we're happy and fulfilled in a relationship." He explains.

"I don't know... it sounds kind of like a bad soap opera. And how long would it even last?"

"Until you find someone that you actually want to go out with. You can terminate the deal whenever you feel like it's run it's course. C'mon Y/N, it's the easiest way to get what we want."

"I think you underestimate the amount of convincing our parents will ask of us there, Boo."

"We can deal with it if it comes to that. The worst that could happen is we come clean about it years in the future. For now, will you be my fake girlfriend, Y/N?"

A lil' pre-valentines treat for the two people that care to read this story and her slow update speed. Enjoy!
