Jack: Saturday, 27 August
〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜〜

I threw my shit down on the bed which had already had sheets on it. Taking a deep breath I let out a sigh of relief. I was glad to finally be back to college no matter how much I hated my studies - and paying tuition - but it was nice to know I would see all of my friends and be able to have a bunch of house parties again.

Felt really good to be back.

Looking around the room, I could see nothing had changed. My roommate from the previous year had transferred and therefore I would be receiving a new one. Wasn't all bad, I was kind of relieved. The last one was such a push over and honestly, that made me a little nervous considering what I enjoyed doing in my free time.

I immediately began to unpack, I know I had until Monday before classes started up again, but I did want to make sure I was ready. I especially wanted to make sure I got some things put away before my roommate got here so they wouldn't see them. Smacking on my gum, I managed to get two boxes done before there was a knock on the door. Opening it, I could see the dorm advisor.

"Hey." I smiled at him. He was a nice middle-aged man who went by the name of Mr. Canton although if you knew him really well (which I did) you could call him Henry. "What's going on?"

"Hi Jack," he greeted me with the same smile I gave him. "How was your summer?"

"Fine. I'm glad to be back." I said. "Missed America."

Henry gave a laugh before continuing. "Well, we've assigned you a new roommate, and I'm telling you this before he gets here - be nice."

"Henry when have I ever - "

"I'm serious Jack." He said, a firm tone. "I know how reckless you like to be about.. Well.. Everything. But you can't do that this time. Do you understand me?"

I nodded. "Loud and clear."

"Good," he noted. "Now, I have to go give the same lecture to other students, so see you around."

"Bye Henry." I waved him off before closing the door.

Be good, was ridiculous. I wasn't at all a bad kid, but I was just.. A little chaotic. I wanted to have fun but not everyone did. Some people really wanted to studying and get a decent amount of sleep.

Losers.

I sat back down on my bed, waiting for this kid to show up so I could at least introduce myself. I already wanted to go hang out with people I had missed when I spent my summer in Ireland, but for now I had to play the waiting game.

I'm not patient though, eventually it became tedious and boring to wait for another person. So I did what any sensible person would do and left. Meeting up at Felix's dorm room, I opened the door without even questioning. It was already beginning to become messy but I'm sure once his roommate got there, they would straighten him out.

"Hey Felix." I flashed a smile at him as I walked inside. He was digging through a box when he turned and saw me.

He immediately came over and hugged me. "Oh you little shit, I've missed you." He separated and patted my cheek before going back to his box. "How was Ireland?"

"Rainy." I shrugged. "D'you go to Sweden or England?"

"Both." Felix answered as he stood up. "It was alright, but everyone awesome is back here. So I did miss quite a few people." I nodded in agreement, I definitely felt the same way. "Excluding you."

"Go fuck yourself."

Felix laughed as he walked around the room. "Day one and you're already going to give me that attitude?" I rolled my eyes and he continued. "Did you meet your new roommate?"

"No."

"Huh," Felix nodded his head slowly. "Well, for some reason they separated Cry and I. So now I don't know who I'm going to be with either."

"Probably cause you bastards were too drunk and too loud." I teased. "Anyways, hurry up. I wanna leave."

"Where are we even going?" Felix asked as he grabbed his jacket and followed me out of the room. He locked it behind him and walked with me down the hallway.

"I dunno. I wanna do something fun." I shrugged. "When you texted me and said 'hey let's hang out,' I was assuming you had an idea."

Felix laughed and shook his head. Of course not, it was so fucking like him too. He always wanted to go straight to action. Even when he had no idea where he was going it was go, go, go. I couldn't blame him though, I was the same way; living in the moment.

Felix and I wandered around town for a good while before actually deciding to return back to the dorms. We wanted to meet our new buddies before nightfall mainly for the fact that they may be weirded out by the idea that we were gone so long and were strangers coming in at night.

I walked into my dorm room at about five and noticed that no one had even been in here yet, I must have just missed them though, because the door opened and revealed a man with a slash of red on his head and glasses. He carried some stuff in without even seeing me and he froze when he did. He was a little taller than I was, and his shoulders were broader, but I could tell just by looking at him that he was already intimidated by me. He was attractive despite looking absolutely petrified at a pale green-haired kid like myself.

"Well hello there." I spoke, introducing myself calmly with a slight chuckle. "I'm Sean, but I prefer Jack. I guess I'm your dorm buddy."

"Mark.." He spoke quietly as he looked me up and down, he pushed his glasses up farther on his face. "Um.. Nice to meet you Jack."

"You as well."

That was it, silence filled the air with its awkward aroma. I cleared my throat and unpacked a few more things. I had to think of something to say, the peacefulness was driving me to madness.

"What's your major?" I asked him.

"Engineering." He said and without missing a beat returned the question to me.

"Music." I told him.

"Any specific area?"

"Probably technology but I'm not sure yet." I said with a shrug. "I still have time to decide."

Then we were back in the silence of things, I hated it but this time I wasn't the one to speak up.

"Where are you from? You've got an unusual accent." Mark said.

I laughed a little. "Ireland. Where are you from?"

"Ohio but I was born in Hawaii."

And that was that.

"Do you like Ireland?" Mark asked.

"Do you like Ohio?"

"Yes."

"Then what do you think?" I responded to him. He shrugged his shoulders but I didn't bother continuing with that thread of questions.

This was incredibly awkward, my last roommate and I had bonded so undeniably quick, that it was insane to think that Mark and I were having such a hard time coming up with decent conversation.

I hated the silence of things though, and I had almost finished unpacking when it looked like he still had quite a bit of work to do. I looked at him curiously and waited for the moment to be right when I would say something.

His back was to me, and his tight jeans framed his ass as well as his legs really quite nicely. He was wearing a t-shirt and a zip-up hoodie. Maybe if I turn the heat on higher he'll take it off. After all, it wasn't like it was cold. It was only August.

Eventually, he caught me looking at him and I gave him a wink to which he turned around immediately. It made me chuckle a little, to think that just a wink could made this awkward child feel so suddenly flustered. He was a dork, and it was adorable.

"You're a freshman, right?" I asked him.

"No, transfer student." He said. "Junior."

I paused. "Oh, so, you're a grade above me?"

"That depends on if you're a sophomore." He said and then turned to face me. I shifted a little bit, how could someone of his age still be so awkward in social situations like this? Boggles my mind.

He technically had more experience than I did, but you would never know. He seemed to be so pent up and anxious about everything. I almost felt bad for him even though I had no idea what was wrong.

"Have you seen much of the campus yet, Mark?" I asked him while watching him finish unpacking. He shook his head and set the empty boxes aside. "Well come on, I can show you."

"That's okay." He said to me and I stopped in my tracks. I was already standing at the door and I was all set to go. Apparently I was the only one though. "Thanks for the offer, I'm just a little tired, Jack."

"I see." I said quietly. "Well hey, I just want you to know that we are going to do it tomorrow so rest up!"

"Tomorrow?"

"Yeah." I nodded. "You seem so anxious which I don't understand. You and I are gonna do so many fun things together whether you want to or not."

He looked at me like he was already fearful. I was determined to make things a little less awkward with him, after all, that's what happened to me my first year. Now I felt comfortable and relaxed in all sorts of areas of my life. Thanks to a little help, I thought it could benefit even the most awkward child like dear Mark.

"Ah, it'll be fine!" I reassured him. "Did you never do anything fun at your old college?" He shook his head. How could he have gone two years without doing anything?

"I just kind of keep to myself." He admitted.

"Not anymore." I laughed. "Sleep now, Mark! Because what lies in store is gonna be awesome!"

I realize I always have Jack interested in music but he talks about playing the drums all the time so when I'm writing I'm like... best put the drums in there.

Also yay new book! I'm only going to put up this chapter and the other chapter of the other book until I finish my other ones but I thought it might be nice to get you guys interested in what's to come.

I'm really excited for a new journey of storytelling lol. And I've already finished the last chapter for The Flirt I just haven't put it up yet. I will though, in time.

Rinny!
