Chapter 27- The Author
I knew it, Dyrlisia was behind this. But, what does he mean by, all of us? They killed him, but why? How do they know about him? He wasn't in any of the videos. Something is off, I need to find out what it is before it's way too late. If they killed Jay, then they're coming for my family next. They're in danger, I need to do something.
I got out of that apartment before they frame me for her murder. At this point, they'd do anything just to get me to do what they want. I didn't know what to do next, I was confused. I ran back to the car, but April wasn't there. I knew she was up to something. She's been acting weird lately. I looked around, she was standing in the corner of the building talking on the phone. So, she's the spy after all. How did I not get this earlier? I trusted her. I walked behind her and took the phone from her.
"Hey, what the hell? What are you doing?" She said angrily.
"Who are you talking to?" I asked as I looked at the phone.
"Give me my phone back, this is not your right."
"Well, it's also not your right to invade people's lives either."
"What? What are you talking about?"
"Get in the car."
"Why are acting weird? What's wrong with you?"
"Everything is wrong. Just get in the fucking car."
"Alright, alright. Stop yelling at me."
"Okay, let's go."
She got in the car, I was in the driving seat. I drove alongside my rage. She was staring at me while I was driving, but I just ignored her. I don't really have time to waste anymore.
"What happened Lyn?" She asked.
"Nothing happened," I replied with frustration.
"You can trust me."
"I can't trust anyone at this point."
"You don't trust me?"
"Something is going on and I need to find out what it is."
"Tell me, I can help you."
"Trust me, you can't."
"How do you know? Try me."
"If you want to help me, just shut it."
"Wow, that was rude."
"I'm sorry, there's just a lot going on, and I'm trying to figure it out."
"I get it. Where are we going?"
"To the college that I studied in."
"Why do you want to go there?"
"I need to do some researches."
"Researches on what?"
"Could you please just stop it with the questions?"
"Okay."
"Thanks."
"No problem."
The awkward silence was filling the car. I was thinking about many different things all at once. I couldn't concentrate. I got to the border that separated Branklin from any other city. As a citizen of Branklin you can't pass unless you have some type of permission from the place you're going to.
"Where are you heading to?" Said the security man.
"Trinel." I replied.
"Do you have permission to leave?"
"I live there."
"Show me your ID."
"I don't have an ID, but I do have my Dislin."
"And what is that?"
"It's a card from the company that I work for in Trinel."
"Show it to me."
I opened my wallet and looked into the different cards that were there. I was hoping for the Dislin to be in there somewhere. I got out all the cards that I had in the wallet, and it was there. Thank god.
"Here," I said as I gave it to him.
"So, you work for Dyrlisia?" He replied.
"Yeah."
"I'm so sorry to disturb you, sir, go ahead."
"Thanks."
I passed the borders and drove for about thirty minutes; the college was on the right side of the road. All the memories came back once I saw the campus. It was painful for me to remember all the good memories that I had with violet in there. I took me a minute to pump myself up and go in.
"Wait for me in the car," I said.
"I can help you with your research." She replied.
"No, thanks. I'd rather do it on my own."
"Why are you being so rude to me? What did I do to deserve this treatment?"
"Once I get the evidence I need, I'll answer that question."
"Lyn, I'm just trying to help you."
"I said I don't want your help."
"Alright, do what satisfies you."
"Thanks, that's what I'll do."
"Hopefully you find what you're looking for."
"Thanks."
I opened the door and got out of the car. She was frustrated, she doesn't like the way I'm treating her. Maybe I was wrong, what is she isn't a spy after all? I need to separate my thoughts right now. I need to find the library and look for that book that had the mind maze diagram. I didn't read the full thing that was there.
Hopefully, Ms Nehad is still there. I missed her. We used to sit and talk for hours whenever I used to have a break or something. She was like a second mother to me, but for now, she's my only mother since my original mom just threw me out. She had some pretty good knowledge about books too, which is what I need right now.
I got to the gorgeous library that was located in the heart of the campus. I looked for her desk, but it seems like she moved it. It used to be right in front of the entrance, but now it's on the side. Every inch of this library had a memory of mine in it. It's really hard for me to come back, I hold on to memories a lot, I just can't seem to let things go. I saw all my memories in the blue walls. Wow, those were the best days of my life. I used to spend most of my college hours here, it feels weird that I just don't belong here anymore. I got carried away by my thoughts and memories that I forgot what I was here for. So, you just stood there thinking about all of this in the middle of the library? Great Lyn, as if you're not that awkward already.
"Hello?" I said.
"Lyn? Is that you?" She asked from behind one of the shelves.
"Yes, it is me. Where are you?"
"Just give me a second, I'll be right there."
"Okay, take your time."
"Oh my god, Lyn, it's you."
"It's me."
"You haven't changed, not a bit."
"It's funny you say that because some people just didn't recognize me."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"I missed you, come to give me a hug." She said as she gave me a sweet tight hug. Her hugs are something else.
"I missed you too."
"Where have you been? It's been a while, you used to tell me that you'll always visit me."
"It's a really long story that I'll get to later. I need your help."
"How can I help you?"
"Remember that time when professor Jim brought us here to do a research about mind mazes?"
"Yeah, God I hate that guy."
"Oh my God, you didn't change."
"Yeah, I'll never change."
"So? Do you remember that day?"
"Yeah, I do remember that day."
"You recommended me a book, where is it?"
"It's definitely in the science area and that's from 500 till 600, but what was it for?"
"Mind mazes, and the human body."
"Oh, so it's in 152, more specifically 152.14."
"I need it."
"Do you remember the name of the author?"
"No, I didn't really pay attention to that."
"Okay, follow me. I'll try to get it."
"Okay."
I followed her through the shelves. She knew exactly where to go, that's what makes her different. In a matter of seconds, the book was in her hands.
"There you go." She said as she handed me the book.
"Thank you so much," I said.
"Wait, we need to have a cup of coffee together, so I can help you with the information that you want."
"You know that I would never turn down that offer."
"Of course, you wouldn't, my coffee is unique."
"It is indeed."
"You always had a privilege over the other students."
"Yeah, remember all the information that you helped me with, and the times I skipped classes to chat with you about something that bothered me?"
"Well, you only skipped the classes that were useless."
"Yeah, right."
"So, why do you want this book?"
"I was in a mind maze, and I want to know its effects on the human body."
"What? How did you experience a mind maze?"
"It's a long story, just help me with this, and we can chat after."
"Alright."
She prepared the coffee under her desk, while I got a chair from one of the tables and sat in front of her. I looked into the cover, and the name of the author shocked all my senses.
"Elvira Schlinger wrote this book?" I asked.
"Yeah, she's a famous author. Every science book in the library is nearly hers, she's at the top."
