I'd been refreshing my inbox so obsessively that I was pretty sure the "check mail" button hated me. My thumb hovered over the mouse again, even though I kept telling myself to stop- obsessiveness wasn't cute, even for a girl applying to Starlite Academy, the most competitive training school for future global girl-group idols.

But after three months of applications, videos, essays, talent rankings, and one very awkward live audition where I forgot my own name for five seconds... I'd earned the right to be a little unhinged.

"Still nothing?" my sister, Isabel, asked from my doorway. She was wearing my hoodie again-the one she said was 'accidentally hers'. She leaned against the frame, holding a cup of cocoa like a wise old sage instead of a fifteen-year-old with the voice of an angel and the self awareness of a wild animal.

"No," I muttered. "And stop pretending you're calm. You want this almost as much as I do."

"I want YOU to get in," she said, sighing. "Besides, if you end up debuting before me, I'm totally going to ride your fame."

I rolled my eyes, though a smile tugged at my lips. That was the thing about me and Isabel-she sang, I danced. She was sunshine. I was... moonlight? A milder version? I wasn't really sure. I knew I was pretty-people had told me since childhood-but beauty felt like a coat I borrowed rather than something that belonged to me. Confidence came and went like tides. And shyness? That stayed no matter what outfit I wore.

I reloaded the page again. The screen blinked.

My breath stopped.

An unread message. Subject line: SLA Admissions Decision.

Everything inside me froze except my heartbeat, which apparently wanted to escape my chest and go live its own life in another country.

"Ivy?" Isabel whispered, a hint of fear and doubt creeping into her voice.

"I-I should open it," I said, except my hand refused to move. It was glued to fear. Or dread. Or hope. Probably all three holding hands and mocking me.

"Give it," Isabel said, snatching the mouse like the chaos gremlin she was. Before I could protest, she clicked the email.

I braced myself. For rejection. For disappointment. For the universe telling me I still wasn't good enough yet

But then I saw it.

Ivy Sabriel Lavotra,
Congratulations! You have been selected for admission into Starlite Academy amongst 19 other...

I screamed.

Actually screamed-with an embarrassing crackle at the end. Isabel screamed too, even louder, and then we were jumping around my bedroom like two drunk kangaroos.

"I got in-I got in-oh my gosh, Isabel, I GOT IN!" I spun until I nearly knocked over my lamp, then hugged her so hard she squeaked.

"I KNEW IT!" she yelled. "You put your heart into this, Ivy. They'd have to be legally blind not to see the effort."

I laughed, and then the laughter dissolved into something softer. Something wobbly. Tears blurred my vision, but they weren't sad-they were relief and joy and years of studio mirrors and sore muscles finally answering back.

The email went on about orientation dates, training schedules, and dorm assignments. But what hit me hardest was this line:

Your acceptance reflects not only your talent ranking, but also your potential to grow into a global artist.

Potential.
Someone out there-someone official, someone who didn't know me-believed I had it.

That was scarier and more exciting than anything.

"I'm really doing this," I whispered. "I'm actually going."

Isabel smiled, brushing my long maroon curls behind my ear the way she did when we were little. "You're going to dance on stages I'll have to squint at from the audience."

"Or you'll be singing right next to me," I said. "We promised, remember?"

Her grin softened. "We did."

We stood there, two sisters in the middle of a messy bedroom, holding a future that suddenly felt real. I didn't know what would happen at Starlite Academy. I didn't know if I'd survive the competition, the training, the pressure. But I knew one thing:

I wanted to try.
I wanted this enough to be brave.

And for the first time in my life, confidence felt like something that fit me perfectly
