Skipping Stones

"Y/n? You in here?" Leo questioned, peeking his head in the dojo, which was empty. Leo huffed in confusion and walked out to the living room, a plate of pizza in his hand.

"Anyone seen Y/n? I saved her a slice of pizza." Leo questioned everyone in the room. Mikey, who was mainly focused on his game shrugged in response, Donnie shook his head as he took long strides to the Lab, so Leo looked to Raph.

"Well?" Leo questioned again, raising his brow.

"She went out." Raph answered simply, turning a page of his comic book.

"Out where?" Leo pressed on, running out of patience.

Raph shrugged.
"She said she was gonna take a walk." He replied, making Leo groan.

"You're all unbelievable. I'm going to look for her." He huffed, putting down the plate of pizza. Raph rolled his eyes and continued to read while Mikey paused his game to gobble up the pizza slice.

Leo ran out and climbed out of the sewers, his eyes darting around as he climbed up to a rooftop, hidden in the shadows as the moon came out from behind the clouds.

"Now where would Y/n go.." He pondered out loud, thinking back to his many talks with you.

~~~
"Where do you like to go when you want to think?" Leo asked you, turning away from his show, Space Heroes, to look at you on the couch.
"Hmm.. I love the park." You smiled. "My mom used to take me there when I was little."
Leo smiled back.
"That does sound nice, if there isn't any people around."
"It all depends on the place," you informed him, "some places are totally empty."
~~~

"Of course!" Leo grinned, heading to the park.

When he drew near, he started to see the street lamps glow in the night, illuminating the trees and walkways. Leo jumped to a nearby tree and climbed down as quietly as he could, watching as couples walked past, hiding in bushes and behind trees.

"So many humans.." he whispered, watching as two girls walked past, hand in hand. Leo looked around him, wondering where you could be.
"It all depends on the place.." he repeated, climbing up a tree. From there, he had a better view, and less of a chance of being seen. He jumped from tree to tree, until a blue light shone up from not too far off. Leo climbed down, his wrapped feet meeting soft green moss on the ground. Looking around, a sudden sense of peace washed over him, stronger than his longest and deepest meditations.
Surrounding him were weeping willows, their long branches brushing the moss covered ground, small pools of water with lilies, snapdragons and violets were everywhere coloring the otherwise green scenery. Leo looked around in awe, not realizing his fingertips were turning back to water, and dew began to spread around him wherever he stepped.

"Wow," he whispered, gently grasping a thin branch of a willow and letting his hand trail down to the end, little droplets of water left behind. He let his hand trail on the trunk, looking all around until he saw a hidden path across from him, with two willows on either side, their branches hiding the path and where it lead. A blue light danced through the tree branches, and Leo couldn't stop himself from moving the willow branches away to reveal the area ahead. To Leo, it seemed to go in slow motion: he saw a pond with the moon and stars reflecting off of it, water lilies and other water related plants surrounding it. Soft green grass joined softer and greener moss on the ground, and there you were, sitting on a bench by the bank of the shimmering pond, skipping smooth, flat stones. He was drawn forward, not knowing why. Usually he would leave you be and wait for your return, but he felt that it was his duty to join you. Strange, right?

"Y/n?" Leo whispered, hoping you wouldn't hear his soft voice, as silent as the ripples you were making, so he could turn around and leave. But, as luck would have it, you hear him, and turned with a bright, welcoming smile.

"Hey Leo. What're you doing here?" You questioned happily. Leo gulped as he searched for words, more nervous and flustered than normal.

"I-I um.. I c-couldn't find y-you, so I we-went to find you.. and h-here we a-are.." he stuttered, mentally slapping himself for sounding so stupid, although on your part you found it quite adorable.

"Thanks for the concern, Leo. Would you care to join me?" You smiled, patting the seat next to you. Leo nodded shyly and sat down, blushing as he glanced at you repeatedly.

-Gosh, she looks so beautiful in the moonlight.. I'll be she looks even better in the sun..- he thought with a fond smile, his deep blue eyes filled with nothing but love.
Then his smile fell, and his eyes lowered to the ground.

-And that's why I can't have her. I'd take her away from the sunlight.. from the moonlight too. I'm too dangerous for her.. she'd be in danger constantly.-
Leonardo's eyes brimmed with tears as he realized the truth yet again. He had been thinking about that since April had given him her advice those two weeks ago.
Another thing he realized was that each day, the pain in his chest grew. He had Donnie check him, but Donnie couldn't find anything.

"How long have you been coming here?" Leo asked, blinking away his tears and clearing his throat.

Distraction from the truth..

"Since I was a little girl. The beauty of it really got to me.. after you left.. I learned how to skip rocks here." You smiled, doing just that; skipping smooth stones across the water, leaving graceful ripples to dance across the pond. Leo smiled back, picking up a smooth stone and skipping it to the other end of the pond.

"Whoops.." he chuckled, scratching the nape of his neck. You chuckled and skipped again. Leo watched you grin as your rock went farther than the last and bent down to pick up another rock. The aching returned to Leo, causing him to grimace in pain.

It won't leave unless you do it..

-Or it could grow worse..-

It will grow worse if you don't..

-...-

"Y/n?" Leo spoke, his voice shaky and airy. You had never heard him like this. The tone was new and unnatural.

"Leo?" You responded, smiling warmly as you turned to him. His eyes were low, glued to the wood of the bench, with his large, green, three fingered hands clasped in his lap. Worried, you placed your hand on his, leaning down a little to meet his eyes with your caring, concerned e/c eyes.

"What's wrong, Leo? You can tell me." You smiled, placing your other hand on his green shoulder.

"I-I'm in pain," he started, feeling his heart beat against his plastron. Was he really doing this? Could he really do this?? You were so worried for him, he knew you wouldn't stop until he told you the whole truth.

-Now, or never..- he thought, biting his lip.

"My stomach is doing flips.. I can hardly breathe, and my heart twists itself up into knots all the time." he finally told you, letting the pain come to view in his expression.

Your eyes widened as Leo allowed you to hold his hand, your grip growing stronger. You didn't see him smile fondly at your hands joined together through his pained face. You couldn't hear his thoughts of how soft your hands were.

"Why? Is there anything I can do to help?" You questioned worryingly, making Leo smile even more. The pain began to spread to his arms, down to the hand you were holding.

"No. No you can't. You didn't even mean to cause it." He muttered, pulling his hand away. Your eyes went wide as your hand flew up to slap over your mouth as you gasped.

"Wha--" you spoke, unable to finish, your shock overriding your ability to talk at all.

"My stomach flips whenever you smile. I can hardly breath when you hug me, touch my arm, or hold my hand. Then my heart twists up when I realize that it's impossible to obtain what I crave." Leo pauses to look at you, and then you see it. You see the love he has for you, the heartbreak hidden just beneath the surface of his smile, the pain he hides, the doubt he holds, and your heart aches just as much as his does.

"Leo.." you murmur, reaching out to hold his hand. He shakes his head.

"Your love, the possibility to claim your heart is something I'll never have. Maybe after this, the pain will leave. Maybe it won't. But I know that nothing will ever be the same for you and me, because I had to go and mess it all up." He mutters, tears slipping away.

You frown and latch on to him, hearing his breath leave him in a loud huff. You hug him as hard as you can, smiling softly when he finally returns it.

"Nothing is impossible, Leo." You whisper, hearing a sigh of bewilderment, relief and joy escape Leonardo.

How was that?? Too dramatic? All well. It took me forever to write this so it'll have to do for now.
I hope you like this cause I'm pleased with it!!!!!!!!!
