Chapter 32
Yowling at the top of his lungs, Ozone raced at full speed at the door. Ramming his shoulder into it, he collapsed on the ground, letting out a cry of pain. Staggering to his paws, he started banging on the door, shouting, "Mason! I know you're there! Open this door!"
"Would ya shut up already?! Your voice is killing my ears," Tiberius grumbled from where he lay on the filthy floor. The two had been locked up in yet another room together, still chained to each other. However, this room was slightly smaller, had nothing in it other than a small window with bars and a bucket. And it was filthy. There was mold, cobwebs and stains that looked an awful lot like blood. And Ozone had been trying to break out for the past hour since they had been locked up.
"Why don't you help me knock down this door?!" Ozone shouted, running at the door head first. Crashing into it, he fell to the floor. Rolling his eyes, Tiberius muttered, "Giant head, little to no brain at all."
"Help me you stupid bird!" Ozone demanded, padding over to Tiberius.
"You're not going to knock that door down."
"And why not?!"
"It's concrete!"
"So?!"
"Why am I even talking to you?"
"I've been asking the same thing..." Ozone muttered, walking as far as the foot long chain would let him. Turning his back to Tiberius, he sat down and stared at the wall. Observing the claw marks that were carved into it, he guessed that other animals had been in the room and kept track of the days they had been locked up. There were many claw marks carved into the wall. Glancing over at the other walls in the room, Ozone saw that they were covered in claw marks from the floor all the way to the ceiling.
Sighing, Ozone quietly looked over at Tiberius. The old hawk looked tired and had a sad expression written on his face. He had the appearance of someone who had lost hope. Looking away, Ozone glanced up at the walls. He figured the animals who were here before had also lost hope. Tail twitching, he got up on his paws and walked quietly over to Tiberius. "What do you want?" the hawk growled.
"Look, I know you're not exactly happy with me since we're in this mess," Ozone started. Quickly, Tiberius interrupted, "Now you admit that this is your fault."
"Don't interrupt me," Ozone murmured before continuing, "In case you didn't notice, the claw marks on the walls show other animals have been here before, and they all lost hope of getting out of here. But we're not like them."
"Where you getting with this?" Tiberius grumbled. Taking a deep breath, Ozone explained, "If we're gonna get out of here, we need to work together... despite how much I loathe the idea."
"Me too. However... you do have a point," Tiberius reluctantly admitted. Getting to his feet, he held out his wing as he went on, "Let's agree that this is the one and only time we work together. Double cross me, and I kill you."
"And we never tell the others about this. Deal," Ozone replied. Holding up his own paw, he spat on it before offering it to Tiberius. Disgusted, the hawk pulled his wing back as he pointed out, "I ain't touching that."
