CHAPTER 8
The whole class was guffawing, as we watched people get flogged for coming late to afternoon prep. Amarachi, Dammy and I had arrived earlier than we were supposed to, I fear cane ehn. A lot of people had moved from their actual seats, to seat close to the people who sat by the window.
"Please sir. Please, I'd come early next time," Esther the class chatterbox, pleaded for her life as she danced around trying to avoid the stroke. But, she couldn't avoid it for too long.
Mr. Demeji sighed aloud. "See madam, you're not the only one here. If I leave you and go to the next person, I'd double yours."
His words made her calm down. She covered her mouth with her hands, muffling into it. Mr. Demeji lifted his cane high, and 'fiawn' the cane hit her behind. Esther literally jumped high, forgetting the incident was happening in the middle of the senior school compound. Immediately she landed on the floor with her butt, she started robbing ferociously as she cried in pain. Guffaws came from every class in the entire senior school building. They were all watching. She didn't mind them, she kept on rubbing her butt in pain and agony. Mr. Demeji ignored her tears and told her to stand up, to receive the rest.
"Sir please, I would never come late again!" she tried to beg him, but tah Mr. Demeji would never listen. And Esther also never came early to anything. She had promised a lot of educators, but she still came late. I wonder how she does it.
"This Esther like to embarrass herself ehn!" I turned to see who was talking, and to whom the person was talking to. Only to be met with Iseoluwa's face. She had turned her chair a little and was talking to me. It was the first time she had spoken to me, apart from 'hi' and 'hey', or maybe 'shift your desk'. "Something she'd just use big girl to chop," she continued. "Now everybody knows she a pankere woh gown. And she can talk ehn. Chai, instead of her to use that her talk-talk to collect the cane. See how Victoria just chop her own and commot! Now she'd start to give that yeye man hope that he can flog. Mtchew!" I laughed at her expression. I didn't reply her, because I didn't want to put my mouth in what I won't be able to come out of.
"See how she take fly, that girl nah naija Supergirl oh!" John mocked her, making the entire class laugh. I turned back to look through the window, to continue my amebo, when I caught a glimpse of Joseph laughing really hard. He hadn't spoken to me still, he was really offended about the incident and I felt really bad about it too. I shook my head and looked away, I won't apologize first.
A few seconds later, Esther walked in. The entire class busted into laughter, except Joseph and myself. Joseph was giggling, while I was smiling. She smiled immediately she entered the class and walked to her seat as she said, "Ah, you people are not nice oh. You cannot even pity someone."
"Except me oh, I didn't laugh at all. I didn't even smile, I told them to stop, but they didn't listen oh." Joseph who was her seat partner tried to justify himself.
She looked at him with a wide smile. "Tah! Abi ya their gang leader."
"No oh, it's just that-"
Grrh!
The timekeeper rang the bell before he could explain himself, shouting, "Sports time!"
Before the timekeeper could say 'time', almost all the boys in the class had ran out! We wasted most of our prep watching people get flogged, and they couldn't stay for few minutes to catch up on their books. Chai! I smiled to myself, knowing the kind of books I was going to be catching up on.
Joseph took his time to clear his desk before he walked out of the class with Esther as they talked animatedly. I felt a fleet really sharp pain in my chest, as they walked out. I was jealous. Why do I have to always mess up when my life is about to get better? I'm really a gigantic dumb fish.
I brought out my MacBook Pro from my desk, turned it on and started reading the Wattpad novel I had screenshot with my phone and sent to my computer.
I had finished five screenshots, when Ebun walked in singing Major Lazer's 'Particula'. She was really loud, making me turn to her direction. She smiled at me and waved. I frowned at her, and quickly looked around the class. "There's no one," she said heartily. "I looked before I waved and smiled, duh."
I smiled at her, before pouting. "I'm sorry, it's not like I'm ashamed of you or anything, but it's just that it would be strange for people to..." I faded off.
She smiled warmly as she walked to me. "Ah! Nothing concerns me, as long as you're my partial friend and I secretly know that you don't hate me again." I looked at her with wide eyes. Does she take me as a friend? "Yes, you are my secret friend nah. I kind of enjoy your company," she answered my internal question, without me asking.
I smiled but didn't reply. "The app." I quickly changed the topic. "I want to collect it now oh," I said, smiling. I was feeling strangely happy, free, and less burdened.
"Ah! I've forgotten sef! Oh lemme quickly go and bring my computer oh!" With that, she rushed out of the class.
In no time at all, she was back, with her 'hp Elite Book'. That was what all student were given, but I was the only one who changed mine to MacBook. She sat on Iseoluwa's seat, opened her computer and turned it on. "Turn on your Wi-Fi, and connect to 'Stephanna'."
I obeyed, before asking my question. "How'd you do that?"
She laughed. "You're really not in this school sis, it's a command prompt stuff that we use to send thing faster and easier."
Hmm...I see.
I nodded and gave her my computer, when she stretched her hands. She typed something on my computer, before doing the same to hers and waited for few minutes. "Take, I'm done." She handed my computer back to me. Wow! That was quick.
"So what am I to do next," I asked unwisely.
She pulled my computer and faced it to herself, pushing hers to me. I looked at her screen blankly as she did whatever she was doing on my computer. Her desktop background was Reekado Banks. I smiled. "Your favorite artiste?" She looked at me confused. "Reekado Banks, he's your favorite artiste?" I made myself clear.
"Ohh! Ah! Yes nah, everybody knows that. You've not heard of me and Nimi's diss?" I shook my head, clueless. She chuckled. "She said Reekado Banks wasn't as good as Mr Eazi, so we fought." I smiled warmly at her as she returned her gaze to my computer screen. "Who's yours?"
I smiled to myself. My number one crush, he comes before Joseph sef. Joseph is bottoming him. "Kiss Daniel," I quickly replied her, when she looked at me.
"Ha! You have a crush on him!" I looked at her with furrowed brows, trying to hide my internal smile. "Tah! Straighten that face of yours. I saw the look you had before you said his name, you like him."
I laughed at her childishness, before accepting. "Okay ah, fine. I like him."
She smiled warmly at me. "Take, type in your password." I obeyed, typed a password and pushed the computer back to her. She smiled as she pushed the enter button, before doing some things in it. "Take, your account is set. You're following Miss KnowAll, MasterofRanks, Dammy, Amarachi, and me."
I smiled warmly. "Thank you so much, I'm really grateful." She closed her computer and was about to stand up to leave, when I grabbed her hands. "Don't vex oh, but please who's this MasterofRanks?"
"Oh. I forgot to tell you about that one." She sat down back, to explain. "He ranks people, mostly girls though. And people take his ranking serious. You've ranked twice sef."
I looked at her with wide eyes. "Me? Good or bad?" I couldn't hide it, I was a little curious.
"Ha, don't bother yourself. They're both good. You ranked second for boobsicious, and fifth for cutiebunnies." I gave her the 'please make yourself explicit' look. "Boobsicious is for people who have large and attractive boobs, while cutiebunnies is for those who are cute," she answered my unasked question.
I blushed. She looked at me knowingly. "You, what have you ranked?" I asked her curiously.
She smiled to herself. "I ranked first in sociableetcheeky, and third in funnyarsebishes." I could decipher the names myself, so I didn't ask.
As she was about to stand up, my computer buzzed. I looked at it and saw a red dot on a bell looking small image at the bottom of the TalkFree app. Ebun quickly pulled Tumi's chair, to seat next to me. I clicked on the bell looking image, and saw a notification from Miss KnowAll account. I hastily clicked on it, and I was led to another page entirely. It had the title boldly written 'MRS. ADIGUN PUT IN HER PLACE' I clicked on it, making it full screen. Ebun and I read.
MRS. ADIGUN PUT IN HER PLACE.
I'm sure we all know the typical Mrs. Adigun, she never minds her business. It's not like as if after doing the amebo she'd nah keep it a secret, tah! She'd spread it as fast as she can. She'd carry that her ugly and unattractive lebe and be doing mebo upanddaun! No one can deny that they don't dislike that woman.
But now, a hero has saved us. ESSE BASSEY, came to our aid yesterday in the girls' hostel. Mrs. Adigun tried to pry into her private life, like always. But Esse gave her the perfect reply, asking her if she isn't old enough to stop her petty amebo. And later called her amebo with a very long hiss. Mrs. Tunji backed her up, by giving Mrs. Adigun a sarcastic look and told the girls to ignore her. Mrs. Adigun was shook. She couldn't believe her eyes and ears.
Hahaha! I've not seen Mrs. Adigun messing around since oh! Maybe she has changed!
Bonus News: Disgrace.
I'm sure no one missed the incredible display by Esther! I don't have much to say except for the fact that she's a shame to girlhood and senior-ship. For those of you that didn't see, go and askarund!
I frowned. "She's rude and she exaggerates stuff, I don't like her."
"She praised you duh, she called you a hero." Ebun tried to defend her.
"No no, Ebun don't do that. You sef know that she's rude and exaggerates. How can she call Esther a disgrace to girlhood? She is the disgrace." Ebun could sense I was angry already.
She chuckled. "Hey calm down. I know, we've been trying to look for her since too. That's why you see Amarachi, Dammy and I together a lot. Please tell no one." I nodded, unsure.
I won't tell anyone oh. But Amarachi and Dammy have serious questioning to answer.
"Ha! I've caught you two. You guys are talking, even smiling, laughing like friends!" Dammy shouted as she walked into the class.
Ghen!
It was like I was poured with cold water. A cold current went through my body, as I began to look for numerous excuses to give her. As I was about to speak, Amarachi too walked in.
"What's going on here?" she cluelessly asked frozen Ebun and me, with grinning Dammy.
Before Ebun and I could speak, Dammy quickly answered, "I caught the both of them talking and laughing. It seems like a set of people have been friends behind our backs."
They both narrowed their eyes at us.
"Are those words true?" Amarachi asked, with narrowed eyes.
Ebun chuckled. "What? Nah. I was-"
I knew what she was about to do. To deny it. But, I didn't see a reason for us to hide our friendship again. It was like it was a crime or something. So, I cut her off in the middle of her sentence. "It's true. We kinda became friends last night. She's a very nice person and her company is suiting. She's funny and knows how to make a person feel better. She's very understand and doesn't ask too much. It's like she's a perfect human being, but she has her flaws too. Which I'm still yet to find out tho. And, she jazzed me," I completed my sentence with a pout.
They both busted into instantly laughter.
"Shey we told you," Amarachi mocked me.
I huffed and ignored them.
After their series of laughter, they sat down on the seats around us. And that's how we dived into a serious gist section.
