Danny threw his sleeping bag into the RV lazily, yawning loudly.

"So you're really leaving?"

He looked over at Dipper, his eyes shining in the early morning light. "Yeah, I had Sam call my dad and tell him that she saw Phantom back at Amity. They're pretty convinced that they have to go."

Dipper looked down at his feet, shifting uncomfortably. Noticing his change in demeanor, Danny crouched to Dipper's height and put his hand on the boy's shoulder. "Don't worry, Dip. We'll stay in touch."

"How?"

Danny pondered the question for only a second before reaching into his jean pocket and pulling out the Fenton Phones. Placing it in the boy's hand, he said, "Don't worry: I have plenty more at home. They're like bobby pins at my house."

Dipper stared down at the technology.

"Here: You push this little gray button when someone is ringing you, and this button -- you see how it sticks up more than the other one? -- that's for making calls. You put in contacts by hooking it into the computer, and you scroll through them by pushing the button. Tucker, Sam, and me should all be in there already."

Dipper smirked, glancing up. "and I."

"What?"

"Tucker, Sam, and I."

Danny made a face and punched Dipper playfully in the arm. "You nerd. Keep me updated on the journal, will you?"

"Whatever you say."

"Danny!"

Before the teen could even respond, he was bombarded by the scent of fruity perfume and the feel of a soft sweater. Mabel's hands were wrapped around his neck and they both fell to the ground, the girl never releasing her death grip.

"Ah! Mabel!" Danny groaned, but he put his arms around her waist and closed his eyes, sinking into the embrace. She really was good at giving hugs.

Mabel pushed herself off of Danny at lightning speed. "I got you something." Reaching behind her, she pulled out a fluffy off-white sweater with a small green ghost in the center. "It's so you don't get cold while you're, you know," she dropped her voice to a whisper, "flying around and stuff."

"Did you make this?" Danny reached for the sweater, rubbing his fingers between the soft fleece before trying it on. It was a little big, but he loved it anyway.

"Yeah!" Mabel held up several Band-Aid clad fingers. "It took all night!"

Danny studied her face for signs of exhaustion as Dipper sighed behind his twin. "She stole Smile Dip from the Dusk 2 Dawn."

"Isn't that stuff illegal?"

With wide, awe-filled eyes, Mabel whispered, "The candy puppies helped me hide it."

Danny furrowed his eyebrows and opened his mouth to respond when a whoop of, "City Boy!" filled the warm summer air. He watched as a van full of teens pulled up beside them, Wendy hopping out before it had stopped moving. She brushed off her flannel and grabbed Danny's wrist, dragging him towards the Mystery Shack. Her friends whooped and hollered behind her.

"Danny!" Maddie shouted behind him. "It's almost time to go!"

"One second, Mom!" Danny called as the wooden shack door slammed behind him.

"Quick, get up to the roof before Stan finds us."

"The roof ... ?" He trailed off as Wendy pushed aside a shower curtain to reveal a wooden ladder, climbing up without waiting for a response.

Danny hesitantly followed. "Wendy, do you really think this is a good idea?"

Wendy held the latch open for him at the top. He stuck his head out and stared, wide-eyed, at the cooler, beach chair, and umbrella that was balanced precariously on a particularly flat part of the roof. Clambering up the rest of the way, he studied the extending forest and conversing people below. Stan burst out of the front door with a jar, demanding a fee for the Fentons staying on Mystery Shack property. Maddie hesitantly placed a fifty in the jar, then another fifty when she met Stan's expectant eyes and unwavering features.

"Do you come up here often?" He queried, sitting down on the edge of the roof next to Wendy, who had already swung her legs over and was intently watching Tambry snap a picture of Thompson licking the side of the van.

"I mean, I come up here whenever I feel like ditching work, so yeah, I guess you could say I come up here a lot." Wendy glanced at Danny's sweater. "Aren't you hot in that thing?"

Danny, who had forgotten he was even wearing the thing, blushed and pulled it over his head. "Not really. Ice core and all."

"Yeah, I still don't understand how that works. Bro! Could you put more ice in the cooler back there?"

Danny glanced back at the cooler. "Are you serious? I'm not an ice maker, Wendy!"

"I'll give you a soda." Wendy's face was so serious, it was comedic.

"Deal."

He stood from his position and opened the cooler, greeted by a pile of warm sodas floating in water. He stuck his hand in the lukewarm water and let cold flow from his fingers, turning it into one solid block of ice. Then, with his fist, he smashed the ice into hundreds of pieces before retrieving a now-cold soda from the cooler.

Ten seconds later, he rejoined Wendy at the edge of the roof with an open soda and cold hands.

Comfortable silence ensued.

"You know," Wendy said after a few moments, her eyes following a falling leaf as it made its way to the ground. "I had a crush on you when you first showed up."

Danny blushed, suddenly glad that Wendy wasn't making eye contact. Below, his dad opened the door of the RV and clambered into the passenger seat. "You did?"

"Yeah. You're hot."

Now Danny was really glad Wendy wasn't looking at him. He choked on his soda, his face lit up like Christmas lights. Still stumbling over his words, Wendy laughed easily beside him.

"I'm not gonna make a move or anything, City Boy. I know you got eyes for that friend of yours back home. I'm happy with being friends. I'm not into long-distance relationships, anyway."

Danny sighed. "Good."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"No! I mean--I just--I don't see you like that either and--you're a good friend, and you're cute, really, but--"

Wendy took one look at Danny's flustered face and was bent over laughing. She pulled a pen out of the back pocket of her jeans and reached for Danny's hand. "Here's my phone number, Casanova. Keep me updated on those ghosts. And on that girl. I'm always here if ya need me."

Danny's hand found its way to the back of his neck. "Thanks. Take care of Dipper and Mabel for me, will you?"

"You know it." Wendy's smile lit up her entire face, her skin crinkling around her sun-lit eyes. "Oh! And I almost forgot, I know Mabel kinda beat me to the whole shirt thing, but--"

"You got me a flannel, didn't you?"

Wendy grinned and pulled a red and black flannel out from underneath the beach chair. "I still hold my belief that you'd look good in flannel."

"Redneck."

"City boy."

"Danny!" It was his mother, staring up at the two with worried eyes. "Get down from there before you hurt yourself! It's time to go!"

"Coming, Mom!" Then, to Wendy, "Imagine how she'd react if she knew I fight ghosts daily."

Danny stood and headed towards the door, swinging it open. "I'll see you around, Wendy."

"Wait!" The teen was up from her position on the roof in half a second. She wrapped her arms around Danny's chest and nestled her head into his shoulder. Stunned, Danny did the same, closing his eyes as he melted into the embrace.

Wendy let go just as suddenly as when she rushed over to hug him. Looking down at her feet, she kicked at the roof and glanced up through her stunningly red hair. "Just--be safe, okay?"

Danny smiled. "Will do. You be safe too, okay? Don't get into trouble with those rowdy friends of yours, young lady."

Wendy pouted. "Oh, just get out of here already, will you?" She playfully pushed down on Danny's head as he descended the ladder.

When the Fentons pulled out of the Mystery Shack, nine people were waving them goodbye. Six of those nine people weren't waving, they were chasing after the RV and whooping loudly, with continuous shouts of "City boy!" following them down the dirt road. Even Stan was waving. Danny realized with a jolt that he never did find out what that old man's secrets were.

Danny set his head against the window. Jazz had her nose buried into a book. Jack was fiddling with the radio and stopped when he found a good oldies station, turning up the volume and filling the RV with painfully loud singing.

The teen was thrown into a familiar sense of deja vu as his family passed the town and the "Now leaving Gravity Falls" sign and the forests of pine trees and the Northwest Mansion. The feeling of cold that his ghost sense brought slowly faded as the town became nothing but a dot behind them.

A pair of Fenton Phones beeped underneath the seat and he pulled them out from underneath him, pressing the button and bringing it to his ear.

"Danny?" Dipper's voice queried.

"This is he."

"Okay, just making sure these things work. Are you out of town yet? Why is that music so loud?"

"Goodbye, Dipper."

Wait! Aren't you going to -- "

Danny hung up with a smile.

Ten seconds later, the Fenton Phones started ringing again.

"Danny, they probably just stopped coming out because you weren't here. Skulker can't hang your head on his wall if you aren't here to capture," Sam said, crossing her arms.

The trio stood in the lab, their voices echoing off the metal floors and hard surfaces. The door to the Ghost Zone was open.

"But what about Technus? He just wants to rule the world."

"Maybe he didn't hear that you were gone. Come to think of it, he hasn't been around since you left."

"I gotta go check, though. What if they're up to something?"

Tucker scoffed beside him. "I don't know why you're surprised, Sam. He's still the same paranoid Danny that left Amity not that long ago. The only difference is he has a new sweater. That thing is hideous, by the way."

"Thanks, Tuck," Danny deadpanned, glancing down at Mabel's ghost sweater. He smiled to himself and lifted the sweater up over his head, dropping it by his side. He let the cold, familiar rings envelope his body before he reached down and pulled the sweater back over his stark white hair and black jumpsuit.

"We're coming with you," Sam said quickly, running over to the Specter Speeder. "Tucker, come on."

"Only if Danny's okay with it." Tucker eyed Danny cautiously, sticking to his side like glue.

Danny rolled his eyes. "It's not like I could tell Sam no, anyways."

The Specter Speeder whirred to life as Tuck hopped into the passenger seat beside Sam. Danny leaped into the green swirls of the Ghost Zone and felt the change in temperatures and the sudden charge of energy in the air. Ectoplasm fed into his ghost form and he was instantly more energized, smiling at the familiarity. Surprisingly, he missed his routine.

The Specter Speeder broke through the portal and the trio wandered aimlessly around the Ghost Zone, waving at friendly ghosts and avoiding Walker's guards.

"See, Danny?" Sam said thirty minutes later. Danny had joined them inside the Specter Speeder, phasing easily through the ceiling and taking a seat in the middle. "Everything's fine and dandy; let's go back home."

A scream ripped through the air. Danny gave Sam a look and watched as she crossed her arms and huffed.

Phasing back through the Speeder's roof, he shot forward towards the sound of the screams. Skulker loomed into view holding a glowing cage. A figure stirred inside.

Danny crossed his arms. "Let the ghost go, Skulker."

"Phantom!" Skulker looked surprised to see him. "You haven't been here since -- "

"Yeah, yeah, I went on vacation."

Skulker grinned. "I would get a much bigger reward by capturing you and delivering you to Plasmius."

Danny looked behind him and shared a look with Sam and Tucker. What would Vlad want with a ghost?

An ectoblast slammed into Danny's back and he flew into the Specter Speeder's windshield with a thud. Shaking his head, he turned and slammed into Skulker at one hundred miles an hour, his fist lighting up with a swirl of ectoplasm as he punched Skulker squarely in the jaw. The cage fell out of Skulker's grasp and broke open, the pieces falling uselessly to the ground. Another blow to Skulker's chest broke the mechanisms in his suit and left him falling helplessly to the ground.

"Do you want to go in the thermos?" Danny demanded, his hand reaching up behind him. He landed on the ground and placed his foot on Skulker's armor, kicking off the face mask with ease. Tucker threw him the thermos and he caught it easily, moving to take off the lid.

"Do you want to die, you no good piece of halfa -- "

The small ghost was swept into the thermos with a yell of malice. Danny capped the lid and flew towards the limp ghost that lay a few feet away.

"Please don't be hostile, please don't be hostile," he muttered, touching the ghost's shoulder. Her long light green hair splayed across the ground. She stirred with a moan. "Hey, kid, you okay?"

The ghost flinched. Then, in a whisper almost incomprehensible, she said, "Danny?"

"Actually, I usually just go by Phantom now, but -- "

The ghost turned her head and pushed the bangs out of her eyes. Danny backpedaled.

"Pacifica?"
