Chapter 3: Help!
I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book.

On this cloudy, but beautiful Wednesday morning, I'm wandering around the house and bored beyond measure.
I have nothing to do!
You have to have had those moments too. When you have a break from school and you get all excited but then after a few days you realize that without school you don't have anything to do and you get bored and annoyed etc.
Yeah well, that's what I'm experiencing right now.
I heaved an exasperated sigh while running my fingers along the walls of the hallway. I stopped in front of a door. My favorite door to be exact.
Why is that your favorite door?
Why I'm glad you asked. This is my favorite door because it leads to my favorite room. And what is my favorite room I hear you ask? Well, you should sit down for this. My favorite room is the study because that is where we store all the books.
Yes, the queen bee of Westfield High likes to read. It's kinda my guilty pleasure even though it isn't something to feel ashamed about.
I just think it's a beautiful thing. How you can read a book and lose yourself, it fascinates me. It helps me forget about the stuff I've been through, and still am going through. It feels like you're leading someone else's life, someone who gets a happy ending.
A happy ending.
That's something we all want, isn't it? I think of it as an abstract idea. I don't believe in happy endings. People leave, hearts break, you might be happy for a short while, but the ending will always suck. If you choose the right book you don't have that. It ends at the happiest of moments and stops.
My hand rests on the door handle for a few seconds, a small giddy smile making its way onto my lips, before pushing downwards and opening the door. My eyes take in the familiar sights before me, causing a warm feeling to immediately rush through me.
The first things you see are bookcases running all the way to the ceiling, filled with books that tell all kinds of stories. A wooden ladder resting against those cases giving you the ability to reach the books that are placed higher up on the shelves. To my left are another two bookcases that are framing the rather big bay window looking out over the spacious backyard making a comfortable place to sit down with a cup of tea and book to read or to watch the storm clouds come in. Both of which I love doing.
There's a desk with a computer and phone placed a little bit away from the bay window, facing the opposite wall looking out over the numerous pictures placed in their black frames with care. To get to the bay window and desk you have to climb two steps onto the elevated space.
I walked towards one of the shelves and picked a book to lose myself in for a few hours. I walked up the pair of steps and towards the window bench, then sat down with my back resting against one of the bookcases with a pillow in between.
I gazed over at the vast yard for a few moments before turning my attention towards the book in my hands.
----------------------
I don't know for how long I've been reading, but I'm more than halfway through the book when my phone starts ringing. I glance at it, then back at my book, then back at my phone again contemplating not answering, but I chose against that option and pick up the phone without looking at the caller-ID.
"Yea," I answered absentmindedly while reading the end of the chapter I was on.
"Hello to you to sweetheart," A familiar voice filled my ears as I closed my book and leaned back against one of the bookcases gazing out the window.
"Sorry, dad I was reading a book." He chuckled quietly before responding.
"I'm not surprised," He spoke distractedly.
I smiled a small smile nonetheless, "what's up dad?" I asked with a sigh, after a few seconds of silence, thinking he probably forgot he was on the phone with me in the first place.
"I was calling to ask if you were going to cook tonight."
I rolled my eyes knowing where this was going, "and here I thought my father was calling me because he wanted to know how I was doing, but instead he's asking me to bring him some of the delicious food I'm going to make."
Instead of coming home before dinner and enjoying it with his family, like a normal father- I wanted to add, but instead bit my tongue and kept it to myself, like I always do.
"How did you know?" My dad asked sounding confused.
"Because you do this a lot," -is what I wanted to say, but instead I went with, "Just a guess." I prayed that I didn't sound bitter or sarcastic.
"Well? Would you please, sweetheart?"
I sighed defeated, "Yeah sure, I think we have the ingredients for pasta carbonara in the pantry, that okay?"
"Sounds good, honey," he said sounding absentminded. He probably got distracted from the conversation the moment he heard me say 'yeah' and immediately went back to work, not listening to what I suggested.
My suspicion proved itself to be correct the moment I heard his next sentence, "I'm sorry sweetheart, but I have to hang up. There's a lot going on over here, you understand right? Bye pumpkin, love you" He sounded like he was in a hurry, so I answered fast, hoping he could get his work done faster so he wouldn't have to worry as much.
"I understand, dad. I'll be there at 6 sharp, bye love you too," I hung up and heaved a disappointed sigh.
After reading another chapter, I sauntered towards the kitchen to cook.
----------------------
I was riding my car through a small town 15 minutes away from the city, when I saw a beautiful, old model, red chevy resting peacefully infront of a white colonial home in the distance. The model was the one fabricated in 1985 and when I glanced at it's cargo bed it was filled to the brim with cardboard boxes. It suggested that they, or at least somebody, was moving out.
When I was getting closer I noticed a guy coming around from the other side of the car, who seemed to be about my age. He popped the hood of, assumably, his car and stared at it's engine. He ran a hand through his hair looking extremely frustrated. He mistreated the car by walking towards the front tire and kicking it harshly, he then proceeded to walk past the car and back towards the house slamming the driver's side door closed.
Yeah, like that's going to help, I thought to myself.
I hadn't realized I had slowed down to a pace where I practically stood still, until he glanced over his shoulder probably wondering why a car was driving by so slowly. When his eyes met mine, they widened and my face paled. I felt like I got caught eating the last gummy bear by my dad.
His eyes narrowed as he turned around and I parked my car along the sidewalk. The situation probably couldn't get any more embarrassing then it already is, so I might as well offer him some help.
I was inwardly praying that would forget help him forget about the creepy stalker incident.
I pulled my key from the ignition and got out of my car. I walked up his driveway while he stood still his arms in the pockets of his black jeans, his eyes still slightly narrowed.
"Hi," I said awkwardly waving my hand. I cringed on the inside.
I was wrong, the situation could get more embarrassing.
"Can I help you?" His arms crossed in front of his chest making his arms looked strong as they bulged against his white long sleeved shirt, and I took a few moments to take him in.
His tight shirt barely concealed his well defined chest and his black jeans looked like the perfect fit on him. He looked to be about 6 ft 2 maybe even a little taller. My eyes went to his face and his messy raven black hair almost hid his striking blue/grey eyes. My eyes traveled a little further down and stopped when I saw his plump pink lips. The last thing I noticed was his well defined jawline, before clearing my throat with my cheeks tinted slightly pink, realizing I was probably staring for too long.
My eyes went back to his and he looked at me with a slight smirk evident on his face. I was immediately cured from my hormone induced state and cleared my throat once again.
"Well, I was driving by and I couldn't help but notice you having trouble with your car," I said looking into his eyes more confidently. I'm glad I'm on my way to my dads office, because I had changed out of my black leggings and into my black skinny jeans and sweater to look more presentable.
When he didn't say anything I continued, "and I wanted to offer my help as an apology for-," I cleared my throat again, "You know."
He grinned, "You mean you creepily stalking me from inside your car?"
I scoffed, "I would hardly call that stalking."
He snorted, "At least you didn't deny it being creepy though."
I crossed my arms and averted my eyes, my cheeks slightly flushing. "Do you want my help or not?"
He laughed, "I don't think you can help me sweetheart." At his statement I immediately brought my gaze back to his.
Now it was my turn to smirk, "Wanna bet?" I said holding my hand out for him to shake.
He glanced at my hand before looking back into my eyes skeptically. "What? Are you scared I'll prove you wrong?" I taunted him. All his doubts washed away and he uncrossed his arms. Placing his hand in mine and giving a firm shake he said, "Oh you're on, Tesoro."
I kept a confident smirk on my face as we shook hands, but on the inside my knees went weak at the unexpected thick Italian accent he had as he called me 'Tesero'.
It led me to believe that his parents or even grandparents must've moved here from Italy, because when he spoke to me in English there was no trace of the rather vivid accent he had when he spoke to me in Italian, meaning he probably grew up here and not in Italy.
We dropped our hands and we moved towards the front of the slightly beaten up, red beauty, ready to fix the old timer.

(P.S. I've also decided that I'll put a youtube video in of the songs the chapters are named after. For the people who don't have as good of a taste in music as me and don't know the songs themselves😉)
