Chapter 10. Camelot ♡*
The week passed and soon Lily found herself discovering a new castle, Camelot. They had entered through a large gate, surrounded by the inhabitants of the closest villages. With loud clapping and singing they welcomed their Prince and King and their guests. Rumors had spread about the engagement and all were eager to see who this lovely lady must be.
Lily peered through the small windows of the carriage, looking at the crowd. A young girl noticed her and pointed enthusiast at her. Though she was flattered, Lily backed away when the crowd started chanting her name. Her mother grinned from ear to ear.
Finally they made it to the castle and under loud applaus Lily left the carriage. She stopped in her tracks as she noticed the crowd that had showed up just to see her. The entire court was filled with people. She barely felt her mother softly pushing her towards the door as she smiled and waved back at all the inhabitants. „Don't overdo it." Her mother whispered in her ear, but Lily didn't mind and enjoyed the attention she got. She was about to throw one last kiss, when the door closed with a loud thud. „Welcome to Camelot." Arthur said as he descended from the large central staircase, his arms wide open as to show off his enormous palace. His eyes smiled when he noticed Lily staring in awe at all the rich decorations.
She noticed how the only flowers around were white lilies, in all kind of pots and sizes. She smiled. „You like it?" Arthur asked her, offering his arm. She gladly took it and nodded. „This place is wonderful." She spoke and Arthur seemed to only have eye for his Princess as he guided her around the castle. Queen Isabella seemed pleased but nevertheless stayed focused on whether or not Peter would show up. To her likings, he didn't. Peter had left a few days before them, and was probably somewhere in the castle. Queen Isabella would do anything to avoid Peter and Lily crossing paths again. She couldn't explain how, but she knew something was going on between them.
And so the days continued and the castle made its preparations for the big wedding. Even more lilies were placed all around, just as small glass decoration which captured the light and spread out a giant burst of rainbows. Lily was mostly accompanied by Arthur who showed her around, and visited the villages with her. Though she was happy, she couldn't help thinking about Peter and what he had to say that one night on the rooftop. After that night, Peter had left the castle and hadn't spoken to her ever since. She kind of missed his attention and wondered what he would be doing. As annoying as he was, she couldn't help being intrigued by the boy, much to her own disliking.
Lily and Arthur were strolling around the garden when Arthur was suddenly called away. And so Lily continued the stroll by herself. She enjoyed the nice soft climate that Camelot seemed always to be in the middle of spring. It was completely different than her home where the summers were hot as hell and the winters were literally freezing your skin off. She sat down next to a small pond, her skirts draped around her as her face bathed in the soft sunlight. She didn't notice the figure who was sitting on the other side of the pond until she vaguely heard a soft curse. She peeked through her eyes and noticed an all too familiar individual, leaning on his knees as he seemed to be attentively taking notice of the vegetation in front of him. The castle was far behind them, her mother would never know and so Lily stood up and made her way to the long lost boy.
„Getting used to the weather, Princess?" Peter said without looking up as Lily approached him. She wondered how he knew, but she didn't question it any further.
„What are you doing ?" She asked as she bend over as well, their faces now on the same height but both looking at the majestic flower in front of them. At first Lily hadn't noticed it, as it was hidden between thick branches filled with dangerous looking black thorns. But hidden between those branches, grew a small flower, with thin leaves and contrary the thick branches, they seemed to be made from glass or even just a thin mist. Lily let out a sigh.
„What is that ?" She whispered in complete amazement, afraid that the sound of her voice might break the fragile construction in front of her. She remembered how close Peter was as his voice softly broke through the silence.
„It's an Isola-flower, very rare. When you come up here at a full moon and the moon reflects on the thin sheets, a magical bean is created. The whole process is very difficult to succeed since there aren't that many full moons and the moonlight has to directly reach the flower, the thorns of the nightshade that protect the delicate flower often catch the light before it even reaches the flower, so the beans it creates are a true scarcity."
Peter looked down and wrote something in a small leather notebook. „The next full moon is over 3 days so..." He mumbled while he continued taking notes not looking once at Lily.
„In 3 days... It's the wedding, then." She stated and she finally remembered many people had made her try to avoid Peter. Her mother, Arthur, Magdalena, Athena,... And yet she always found herself thinking about him and somehow meeting him.
„I should be going." She decided for once to listen to Magdalena and her mother and she stood up, dusting her skirts off. Peter too stood up, quick and elegant. „Leavin' me again?" He smirked and for what seemed the first time, he directly looked at her. Lily's breath stopped in her throat as his dark brown eyes hovered over her face. She frowned in confusion.
„You never showed up on the rooftop." Peter declared „I thought you would've been curious but I guess you have other priorities now you're still on your white could of happiness with our Handsome Little Arthur, the God of Camelot." He rolled his eyes and backed away, giving Lily the chance to remember the reason why she indeed should stay away from him. He was an arrogant ass. He chuckled as Lily let out a frustrated sigh and stepped away from the pond.
After Lily left, Peter bend down to the flower once more. He slowly sketched its delicate features, being reminded of the girl who had just left and the visions he had seen of her. Deep in thought, he imagined what he could possibly do if the moonlight indeed fell on the mystical flower. If the visions became true, they had to have a hiding place and what would be better than a magical island, where the only entrance is a magical bean...
In delicate letters Peter wrote the name of the island at the top of the page...
Everland.
