Finale
It is finally here, the end of Executed, the chapter you have all waited for. Prepare for one hell of a finale (literally)
Btw a dotted line here represents a POV change. The four characters are VC, DC, Storm, and a secret character.
"So this is the end?" I asked. The flames had burned everything in sight. All that was left was the smoke and ash filling the room as the red and orange terror spread up to end us. I was scared ...no, terrified for my life.
"Yes, this is how the world will end. A pillar of flames that will reach to the sky and burn away the land. It is so beautiful." DC said, grinning to herself.
"You said you wouldn't kill me."
"Oh well, I lied."
I looked out again, and I could see her standing there. Grey and dull, she could have been mistaken for a normal victim. If it weren't for that glint in her eyes, she would have been fine. But I knew somewhere inside, that the girl I had loved was no more. I just wish I could hold that girl again and tell her how much I loved her... how much I cared. I wish I had a fair chance to say goodbye to the lovable goofball of before.
But that's not how the world works.
I should have done more, stopped her when the idea was still young. I should have spoke up about how crazy this all was.
DC put her hand on my shoulder in a way that would have been comforting if it weren't for the devil that the gesture came from. I tried to push her hand off, but she only gripped tighter. "What more do you want from me, you bitch! What more do you need to take before you're satisfied?" I shouted, pushing her away. She giggled a little and smiled at me.
"I want her life." DC said, pointing down to where Veronica stood, watching the fire burn away her sins. I looked down as tears began to form in my eyes. DC grinned again. "Sad, isn't it? All of this, killing everyone she loved, and it's all catching up with her. To think, all of this was just a game in the beginning, nothing more. Now, now it's the end of the cookie queen's reign. It's her downfall. There's no coming back from this kind of mental torture."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
VC watched the flames reach higher and higher, the light from the destruction reflecting around, spreading it's rage farther than the heat could ever reach. There was nothing she could do. It was her fault that all of this happened...that all of her friends and family were dead. It's funny really, that it will end as it began.
With death
She contemplated waiting for the fire to just burn her alive, or she could jump. From the height she was at, it was an almost guaranteed death sentence. So many choices...so little time to decide...
---------------------------------------------------------------------
"You're going to stop her, right? This is..this is too much, even for her."
"What are you talking about!? Of course not! This is what she deserves for what she did to us!"
"Yeah Addie, don't you remember? She smashed you into a little pile of guts and blood. You're lucky to even be able to stand, you know?"
"There's nothing left to do. She murdered us, one by one. Now, her trial's here, and she's getting her own execution for what she did."
"Yes, I know she killed us. But, I have a feeling that she wasn't the only one at fault for that. She was manipulated and forced into doing more than she had ever anticipated." I say, looking up at the viewing booth where Storm and DC stood. Storm looked like she was crying, while DC was just standing there, taking in the carnage like it was some kind of sick reality TV show where VC was the main attraction. Speaking of VC, I looked down to the platform where she stood. She looked so sad, so broken. All dull and lifeless, the opposite of what I had known her to be. I felt someone pat my shoulder. I turned to see Block standing behind me, trying her best to comfort me.
"You know this will have to happen eventually." She says. I nod.
"I know, it's just painful to watch it play out in this way." I reply.
Block gives me a little smile. "It will all be over soon."
I try to keep my mind off of the horror unfolding below us by looking around at our rag-tag group of spirits, taking in what I had already seen dozens of times. There was Block, with a gaping hole in her chest from where she had been stabbed. Jay looked the most decayed seeing as he was the first to die. Jal and Liv still held hands after all this time, the two hands being the only pieces of their bodies which hadn't been completely crushed. Shane was still bloody around his chest, with a hole in his back from where fake Jay had pulled out his heart. Diamond had bands of squished flesh from the fingers of the mechanical hand that had been her end. Glitch had burns from the electric burst as well as some of the needles still stuck into her skin. Guess looked charred and impaled, similarly to Block in looks. Red had icy skin with cracks along it to show where her shattered shards had been put back together again. And then there was me. Cuts and bruises and flat pieces all molded to make the wonderful body that I used to have. What a way to go.
I look down again and realize that I have to try and fix this, even if no one else will help. I start to head down when Block stops me again. "You're going to save her, aren't you?"
"Yes, I have to try," I reply. Block's smile fades.
"You know she deserves all of this. She killed us. She killed you! Now, she's the one about to go, and you want to save her?" Block says, her voice filled with her anger.
I scowl. "I've known her longer than any of you, and I know that she wouldn't do something like this. I have to give her a second chance. She helped me through some tough times, and now it's my turn to repay the favor, with or without your help." And with that, I head down to meet up with Storm.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I couldn't take it! How long is it gonna be before this brat jumps into the flames? It's not that hard, just a bit of falling, a bit of dying, yada yada yada I take a physical body and we're done. But no! She's just standing there! What is she doing down there anyways? I need to speed this up a little, and I know exactly how to do it. I teleport to the area behind VC, making sure she doesn't spot me just yet. The poor girl was just staring off into space. I wonder if she would even notice if I said something right now, but I don't want to take my chances. I sneak closer and closer, until I'm practically over her shoulder. "You know, there's always time for a little bit of extra killing, you know what I mean, Miss Cookie?" VC turned in shock, almost headbutting me in the process. I stumble back a little bit. "You know, there's this thing called being polite when other people are near you, you should really try it out sometime." I mutter.
VC scowled. "I'm done being your slave, you devil bitch." I open my mouth wide in fake shock. "Oh my, the cookie queen has an attitude and a mouth that should be washed with soap." I reply. She turns back towards the fire, now ignoring me. Talk about rude, am I right? Well, I guess she has a good reason, with the whole "kill everyone" shenanigans but that was all for fun! Now it's the real deal and she's giving me the cold shoulder. I slip in front of her, trying to get her attention, but she just turns away, determined to keep me out of her sight. This time, I lean over her shoulder, my lips by her ear. "I know you want to listen to me." I say. She turns a little, but listens anyway. I smirk. I have her now. "This whole death thing is going to be pretty gruesome, and I know you don't want your little Storm to see all that blood. I suggest maybe giving her an express ticket so you two can go down to hell together! That sounds like the perfect place for a first date, don't you agree?" VC looks convinced, and she begins to walk away off to somewhere behind me. I wish I had watched her go all the way.
I sneak a little peek, only to see the maniac charging at me with her crossbow locked and loaded. I have just enough time to block, but that kind of thing is traumatizing! That's the stuff that starts PTSD you know! There's no time to think about that right now though, since I am BEING SHOT AT! I jump out of the way of an explosive shot, watching for the next arrow through the smoke. Instead, VC charges through holding a sword from who knows where. I block with my pitchfork, but only just. Too close for comfort, if you ask me. She pushes down and sends my pitchfork away with her sword. I stumble backwards, pulling my own sword from its hilt. VC stood halfway concealed in the smoke left from her arrow. To be honest, I was scared. She was the only one who could kill me, and now she seemed ready to do it. She raises her blade above my head, and I smile. I use her momentum to kick her in the stomach, sending her over me and giving me time to regain my footing. She groans, but jumps up. This is going to be a long fight if I don't do something soon.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was alone now. DC had gone off to do something. I was happy that she wasn't here taunting me and telling me that VC was already dead and she was just 'getting rid of the evidence.' I try to distract myself by fiddling with my hair, but those efforts are futile. I would have been fine, until I heard an explosion. My heart knew what was happening before my head, and I'm off running without even considering the possibilities for what just happened. If they're fighting, then that means... no, I can't think about that. I need to get down to that platform!
However, my hopes aware quickly destroyed by a wall of pure flames. Damnit, the fire's spreading here already! I don't have time for this! I'm about to turn back when I get a sudden feeling of being watched. I turn to see a misty figure behind me, almost waiting for something. When she sees me, she jumps up and runs over. When she gets closer, I can tell it's Addie, a very very dead Addie. She runs up to me, grinning. "I thought I would never catch up with you. You need to hurry, before those two girls kill each other down there." I sigh.
"It's hopeless. There's no way through." I say, pointing. Addie looks behind me. She smirks. "I have a way." My heart drops. I know exactly what she means.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I grip my sword and face DC. MY stomach hurts, but it's a pain I can live with. I charge again, swinging down towards her legs. DC jumps and lands behind me, swinging out and barely scratching my back. I cringe, but recover fast. Now DC is the one to charge, a wild rage in her eyes. This is getting to her. Good, I need her to lose her senses. It makes all of this easier. We start exchanging swings, the clang of metal wavering in the air. I duck under DC's swing and cut a deep slice in her leg. She screams and drops to the ground, but the wound only made her rage grow. DC groans and tries to stand up, but her leg is in bad shape. I take the time to look around. The fire now surrounded us on all sides. There was no escape after this whole thing. My plan is working perfectly.
All I can hear is a creak before a huge weight lands on my back. DC jumped up and was now trying to strangle. I held her off with one hand, trying to escape her grasp. Must..not...give...in! I pull one arm off, but it's not enough to get her off. Then, I feel a sharp pain in my left shoulder. I turn to see that the bitch bit me! "Seriously!" I say, trying desperately to shake her off. I cough for breath, my strength slipping away the longer DC held on. That's when I realize that I have a sword in my right hand. There's only one way of killing her now. I raise the sword up, ready to strike...when I hear a scream. I look to see Storm appear out of nowhere, screaming some inaudible phrases and running towards me. I see Addie next to her as well, and that did it. Tears poured down, but I had to do this.
"VC, stop this madness!" Storm shouts. I shake my head. She stops, face pale. DC grins a little, and I cough as her grip tightens. Storm starts to run forward again, but I know she won't make it. I smile through my tears, trying to comfort her.
"I have to do this. To protect everyone, and avenge those that I couldn't save." I say.
"I won't let you just go kill yourself!" She shouts, but I couldn't bother to care. I was focused on the demon I needed to kill. DC stops biting me and smirks, her arms still around my neck.
"That's it, DC." I say, raising the sword again, "THIS ENDS NOW!"
At that moment, many things happened at once.
I plunged the blade as far into my stomach as I could, going straight through me and into DC, causing her to lose her grip.
Storm screamed so loud that even Addie covered her ears, even though it wasn't painful in the physical sense, just the raw horror of the moment.
DC coughed up blood onto my shoulder as the blade pierced one of her lungs.
--------------------------------------------------------------
No, no, no no no no no! This..this couldn't be real. This is a dream, it has to be a dream. It felt like time stopped right then. I tried to stop her, and I failed, and now she had a sword in her chest. I could feel the pain from this far away, and I knew right then that there was no going back.
DC fell off of VC's back after VC pulled out the sword. The cookie queen swung around, and without one second of hesitation, she decapitated DC. Then, she collapsed to her knees. I run over and reach her just in time to catch her before she fell to the ground. She looked up at me, one weak hand raising up and wiping away my tears. "Hey." She said. I smiled.
"Hey," I reply.
"I'm not gonna live, you know. I can't live if I want to keep you safe."
"I know, I just don't want to admit it to myself."
"I understand. You know, it's almost funny. It's kinda like ...this is my trial, and now I'm the sentenced to death," She chuckles, "Funny how the world works sometimes." More tears fall down, and I hold her tighter, even if that means getting soaked in blood, I don't care.
"You can't leave me like this, Veronica. There was so much to look forward to...so much we still had to live for." I say, choking from my pain.
"This was my fault, all of this. My idea, my emotions, my plans, my evil. This was my doing. I killed all of the people I cared about..except you. Now, now I have to pay for that. I'm done hurting people, Storm. I'm done being the killer" I can't stop crying, it's just so hard to watch her like this. She holds my face in her hands, her chocolate eyes staring right into me. "You were always so cute when you cried." She lightly kissed me right then, and then she was limp, staring off into space, her eyes reflecting the light of flames which drew closer with every moment that passed. Addie came up next to me, her misty hand on my shoulder.
"It's time to go," Addie says. I nod, letting VC go and standing up. I start to turn, but I look back and notice a glimmer around her neck. I undo the necklace and remove her crossbow from her cold arm. It doesn't feel right, not seeing her breathing. I almost convince myself that she'll jump up and laugh because she was faking it, but I know that won't happen. Something seems off when I look back at her, stripped of the possessions which defined who she was. Addie leads me away, her touch allowing me to pass through the flames unharmed. I look back one last time, to see her there, to help believe that this is real. I only catch a glimpse of her before the red and orange wall obscures my vision.
Long live the Queen, slain by her own hands and burned with her own flames, may she forever be forgiven for her crimes against this world.
