Learn - A Frog
A frog croaks in my nightmare;
I killed one just yesterday.
A murder justified by a single word: learn.
A poor imitation of Sims,
A drop of the pain of Anarcha,
Of Betsey, and Lucy.
At least these are frogs that I use to learn,
Not people the law once allowed us to burn.
I wish I was there to lessen the cruelty,
But a woman is ignored, even royalty.
Pain was a woman's alone to bear,
With plenty of suffering left to share.
Compassion tells us to keep it inside,
While society forces the living to hide,
All for the sake of a white man's legacy;
A chapter in a book, or a Nobel Prize.
Knowledge is thorough in a world where they thrived—
Where frogs and women had similar rights.
