Sleeping on the job is acceptable in Japan, as it's viewed as exhaustion from working hard.
They're pro sleepers. Last time I went on a train in Japan, there were a a lot of people sleeping, including the lady next to me. The second we reached Tokyo, her eyes flashed open, and everyone filed out. I was like: you superwoman or something? I would still be half-dead, sleeping if I was her.
