Chapter 10: Monopoly

The next few weeks went by agonizingly slow. I hardly did anything. I quit my internship at Cameron's dad's company. I didn't see the point in it anymore. Halloween had passed but I didn't really feel like celebrating or going to another party. Cameron stayed home with me and we watched scary movies.

A few days after Director Krane came back and told me what had happened. Someone had gotten the jump on him and he got shot. The SIO didn't really have funerals.

When she came back I officially quit the SIO. I couldn't ever imagine myself going back. There was nothing there for me anymore.

I felt like an emotionless zombie as I walked through the halls at school. I didn't talk to anyone. I just did what I was supposed to and during lunch I hid myself in the library.

"Hey what are you reading?" I heard someone ask as I was hiding myself in the furthest corner of the library. I looked up to see a smiling Stacy.

"Where the crawdad sings." I answered slowly shutting the book as she sat next to me.

"It's a good one. I haven't really seen you around lately. How are you doing?" She asked.

"I've just been going through the motions I guess." I said as I pulled my knees up to my chest. I hugged my legs tightly and rested my chin on my knees.

"Are you doing okay?" She asked concerned. She tilted her head to look at me better.

"I don't know. I've just been going through some stuff."

"I get it. If you ever need anything just let me know okay." She said as she stood up. She went to walk away.

"Hey do you wanna hang out or something tonight?" I asked quickly before she could walk away.

"Of course." She said turning around and smiling at me widely.

"We could watch movies and i don't know paint our nails like normal teenage girls." I suggested.

"What's normal anyway." She smiled widely at me.
...........................

Stacy and I decided to do exactly that. We were watching Clueless and waiting our toenails in the living room. The boys were at practice and Katherine hadn't gotten home from work yet.

We were sitting on the floor in front of the tv. Blankets and pillows scattered about. We had ordered a pizza as well.

"So what's up with you and Cameron?" Stacy asked.

"He's my friend." I shrugged my shoulders.

"But you want him to be more than that?" She raises her eyebrows at me. I didn't say anything. I just continued to paint my nails but I felt my face heat up.

"You're blushing. You do. Oh my god. I knew it." She was laughing maniacally.

I grabbed a pillow off the couch and tossed it at her which only made her laugh more.

"How cute." She giggled.

"I hate you." I said but I was laughing too. She threw the pillow back at me.

"Hi girls. Having fun?" I heard Katherine ask from the doorway. She was smiling widely at us.

"Hi I hope it's okay that I invited Stacy over."

"Of course it is sweetheart."

"Ooh is that pizza?" I heard Davie say as he walked in. He went straight to the pizza and took a slice. Cameron was in the doorway just smiling at us.

"Okay now you guys are just interrupting our movie. Go away." I laughed now throwing the pillow at Davie.

"Okay okay bossy we'll leave you girls alone." He laughed as he grabbed another slice elf pizza before he left.
.............................

Later that night Stacy and I were in my room. Music playing quietly in the background. We were just talking about stuff. Our lives mostly. I couldn't really tell her much but what I could I loved being able to talk to her. I talked about Lincoln a lot. It felt nice.

"Can I tell you something?" Stacy asked.

"Of course." I said still letting my head hang from the side of my bed a I ate a piece of licorice.

"This is my first time ever having like a sleepover or anything with a friend." She said softly smiling at me.

"It's okay. It's mine too." I said shrugging my shoulders.

"Really?" She asked.

"I only ever had one friend before I moved here." I said and I felt my chest hurt.

"Lincoln." She said softly and grabbed my hand. I sat up on my bed and faced her.

"I miss him so much. He gave me his mom's wedding bands but i lost them... actually on the day that I met you."

"Wait..." She said and rushed over to her bag.

"I think I found them in the library the other day." She said pulling two rings hanging around a necklace from her bag.

"Oh my god!" I gasped as she handed me the rings.

I held on to them tightly.

"Thank you. Oh my god thank you." I said pulling her into a hug.

"I was going to turn them into the office but I totally forgot to. I'm glad I didn't now."

There was a knock on the door that interrupted our conversation.

"Come in!" I called out.

Davie and Cameron revealed themselves on the other side of the door.

"Do you guys want to play monopoly?" Davie asked.

"Absolutely." I said with a smile.
.........................

"Of course you would be good at Monopoly. You're already a millionaire." Davie said as Cameron had most of the properties on the board and a big stack of money.

"Hey don't hate because you made the mistake of trading all your properties for broadwalk. Nobody lands on broadwalk." Cameron stuck his tongue out at Davie.

I was laughing at them when suddenly my phone started to ring. It wasn't my normal phone. It was my burner phone that was stuffed away in my desk drawer.

Davie gave me a look and I slowly got up and made my way over to my desk. I pulled the phone out and read the caller ID. Director Krane.

"I'll be right back." I said before I left my room and went down the hallway into the guest bathroom.

"Hello." I answered.

"I was worried you wouldn't answer." She said.

"I almost didn't."

"I know you quit and I respect that but I need you on one last mission."

"Amelia..."

"Please Alex. It's the Crimson brothers. You are the only person who knows their files and everything about them like the back of your hand. You can have this done and over with within a day."

"When?" I sighed.

"Tonight. They're in San Francisco. It may be our only chance."

"Have Simon meet me with all my gear in an hour. You owe me for this one." I said before I hung up.

I took a deep breath before walking out of the bathroom. Davie was waiting outside the bathroom for me.

"What was that about?" He asked.

"Just stuff. Can you help me come up with an excuse for why I would need to leave for like two hours?" I asked.

"Alex..."

"Don't Alex me. Please just help."

"I don't know. Im not good at lying." He shrugged his shoulders at me.

"Fuck Davie. I've never had to come up with an excuse like this. I never needed to." I was laughing a little bit.

"I'll improvise I guess." I said and Davie just shrugged at me.

"I'm so sorry Stacy. Is it okay if Cameron gives you a ride home? Nana is really sick and we have to the hospital. Katherine is already on her way there."

"Oh my god. Is everything okay? Of course. I totally understand."

"Nana?" Cameron asked.

"Yup. We gotta hurry though." Davie said rushing them out before they could ask questions.

Cameron gave us a suspicious look before helping Stacy gather her things.

Once they were gone it wasn't soon after that Simon showed up.

"Hey girl." He said softly and pulled me into a hug.

"How are you holding up?" I asked him. He and Lincoln had an on and off again thing for years but I knew they both loved each other a lot.

"I'm doing the best I can. What about you girly?"

"I'm trying." I said as I took the bag from him.

"One last thing." He said and handed me a pair of keys. I recognized them immediately. It was the keys to my favorite black Harley that the SIO had.

"You know me so well." I said with a smile.

"It's yours to keep." He said.

"Are you serious?"

"Yes." He smile at me widely. I threw my arms around him immediately.

"Oh my good thank you." I squealed.

"Now go kick some ass."

I quickly changed into black leggings, a black long sleeve, black boots. and a black leather jacket. I braided my long brown hair into one simple french braid. I had two guns in the holster that was under my jacket resting against my back. I had another gun in the holster strapped to my thigh. I had various knives hidden in my jacket.

"Woah. You look... Are they sending you on a mission?" I heard Katherine say just as I was about to leave.

"Yeah. I'm sorry Katherine. It's an old case that i've got to wrap up."

"No it's okay sweetheart just be careful." She said pulling me into a hug.

"You owe me one." Davie said to me right before i was about to leave.

"Thank you." I said softly and I pulled him into a hug.

"Please be careful. If you die I swear to god i'll murder you."

"Don't worry. I'm great at my job." I said before leaving. I got on the bike and followed the gps signal that Simon had sent me.

As I turned on the road I knew exactly where we were headed. The Martinez mansion. I stopped my bike where you couldn't see me from the yard and walked the rest of the way. I heard gun shots go off and my slow walk turned into a sprint. Before I knew it I was in the foyer. I could hear yelling coming from the living room. I slowly and quietly made my way up the stairs so I could have a better view of what was going on.

There was 5 men with guns. All of them dressed in black with ski masks over their heads. Two of them have themselves away easily with their giant stupid
red diamonds on the watches they wore on their left wrists. I know those watches. The crimson brothers.

Two of the bigger men had Richard tied up and pinned against the floor.

"Look who decides to show up." I heard one of the men say. I panicked thinking that I was caught but I watched as another man dragged Cameron into the room. He had blood all over his face and shirt.

"Now things can get fun Richie. You're pretty boy son finally decides to come play." The taller Crimson brother responded. Tyler is his name.

"Don't fucking touch him!" Richard yelled. I winced as I watched one of the men kick him in the face as a result.

Cameron struggled to get free.

"Oh Richie not a smart move. You're going to tell us where that bitch is or i'm going to shoot pretty boy over here." Tyler said demandingly as he pointed his gun at Cameron.

"I think he needs some motivation." His brother Eric responded.

"Let's give him a countdown. Shall we. You have 5 seconds to tell us where Alexandria is before I shoot your son in the head." Tyler yelled taking a step closer to Cameron.

Oh so they're looking for me now.

"I don't know where she is!" Richard yelled.

"Liar! 5!... 4..." he took another step towards Cameron until they were inches apart. "3..." he pressed the gun to Cameron's forehead. "2..." he flicked the safety off.

Fuck it. I pulled out my gun and jumped over the balcony.

"1..." I yelled as I landed next to him.

He jumped back startled. I took the opportunity to kick the gun out of his hands.

I quickly took out the guy that was holding Cameron. I didn't have time to do much else so I pushed Cameron against the wall and shielded him with my body.

"Lexi what the hell is going on?" Cameron asked him. His voice was shaky and I could feel his heart racing. I turned away from him and faced Tyler.

"You missed me that much sweetheart?" I asked him with a smirk.

"You crazy bitch." He snapped at me. I had both my guns pointed at him and I was still shielding Cameron.

"Awe I've always loved your pet names for me. I love you too pumpkin." I gushed at him.

"Fuck you." He said taking a step towards me. I didn't hesitate one second to shoot him in the leg.

Within the next few seconds I threw Cameron towards the ground as I shot the other 3 guys just leaving us with Eric and Tyler.

"You shoot that thing one more fucking time and i'm going to kill him." Eric snapped at me pressing his gun against Richard's head.

I stared at him and he pressed the gun against his head harder.

I sighed and slowly lowered my guns.

I jumped when I heard two more gunshots go off. Eric and Tyler both fell to the ground.

Ryan walked down from the staircase instead of jumping down like I did.

"I had it handled." I snapped at him.

"Because that looked like you had it handled." Ryan smirked at me.

"You know what I don't care. Clean it up and..."

"CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED?!" Cameron snapped.

"Yeah i've got it. You can handle that. Good job tonight Alex." Ryan said and placed his hand on my shoulder before walking passed me.

I made my way over to Richard who was still tied up laying on the floor. I could feel Cameron's eyes on me the entire time. I kneeled down to Richard and pulled a knife out of my boot. I cut the rope and duct tape that had him tied up. Once he was he he grabbed my hands.

"Thank you Alexandria. Thank you for protecting my son."

"You've got to explain all of this to him. I can't be the one to do that. It has to be you." I said to me him before standing up and making my way out of the living room. I watched as Richard pulled Cameron into an embrace.

"I thought you quit?" Ryan asked me just as I was about to walk out of the door.

"I did."

"That didn't look like someone who was done."

"I am done. I have lost too many people because of this job. I'm not going to loose anymore."
