Chapter 36

Day: Tuesday

( Ash's POV )

Someone opened the door. I laid as still as I could, hoping the person inside wouldn't notice I was awake. Like I could sleep. I could remember some parts of my night at the pub Harley worked. I had locked myself up the moment I was home again. I had heard how May screamed at Drew. There had been a pain in my chest when she said Misty's name, but I couldn't let it get through me.

The person removed my blanket, so that I would be cold and open my eyes. "I'm still sick, I can't go to school."I groaned, my eyes still closed. I grabbed in the air, hoping I would get my blanket.

"Wake up, Ashy-boy."a voice said. The curtains opened and the light shone through my closed eyes. Instead of a black sight, it was a shade of red. I groaned again, but finally opened my eyes. Gary threw me some clothes. "Finally!"he exclaimed. "Now get dressed, Drew and Paul are already in the canteen." I clumsily put on my pants, while Gary looked at himself in the mirror.

"You do know you're a rotten egg, praising your own looks like that."I said annoyed as I stepped in my shoes.

"I can't help it."Gary said, and he hopped on my bed. "I'm just too damn hot." I rolled my eyes and picked up my bag. I walked in the living room, Gary following me. I took my hat and put it on my head. Gary hit me on the back. "You're gonna look for Leaf with me, right?"

"Sure."I sighed. Just like old times. Before Misty came in my life. I guess it happened too fast. Maybe we should've slowed things down. But I also liked being free. I was still a kid, and I had to enjoy my girlfriend-free childish life. "Pikachu, we're leaving!" The yellow mouse yelled its name and jumped on my shoulder.

"I swear that pokémon is not normal."Gary muttered. "It won from me with Monopoly. Monopoly! Do you know how many times I played Monopoly with my dad? I trained so hard to win, and this yellow mouse just beat me like it was nothing!"

"I was its teacher."I said, grinning.

"Pika."Pikachu said annoyed. I just wouldn't tell Gary that Pikachu meant, That has nothing to do with my intelligence. I stuck my tongue out to Pikachu when Gary didn't look. I sat down next to Paul, with an actual grin on my face.

"So, do you have any tests today?"

"Chemistry."Paul and Drew said in unison. I laughed at them. They both gave me an annoyed look, though Paul's face looked more like he just ate a whole lemon. That made me laugh even harder.

"Stop that!" Drew glared at me.

"Ha! I have none! And the French teacher will even give us cooking lessons instead of French." Drew glared at me. Paul went back to his emotionless face, but Gary made this weird look I couldn't figure the emotion of. I stuck my tongue out to Drew. He gritted his teeth.

"Don't talk shit, Ash."Gary said. "We've got a PE test."

"We do?"I asked, regretting my attitude. Gary nodded, and Drew burst out into laughing.

"Ash, you deserve a prize for the number one dumbest in the world!"Drew laughed. I glared at him. "What's wrong, Ashy? Are you mad?" I stiffened, but didn't dare to look Drew in the eyes. So I looked at Paul. He wore a black shirt with dark blue jeans. And it was kind of annoying Paul actually looked hotter than I did. Then Gary hit me. I turned around, angry as hell.

"What was that good for?!"I yelled.

"To get you out of your depression."Gary said casually. I glared at him. "What? Anyone who looks at Paul without puking is depressed."

"Actually, Paul looks better than Ashy does."Drew said with that wicked grin on his face. I growled. This wasn't the way to cheer someone up. Though somehow it did make me smile.

"Oh, shut up, Drew!"I yelled, smiling a bit. "Paul, better than me? Don't make me laugh!"

"I beat you in every single pokémon battle we had, Ash."Paul said, suddenly not in the mood to stay silent for a long time. "And the reason why you're still popular is because some people think it's cute that you're this childish and pathetic." I sighed. It was no use. These people couldn't understand my perfectness. I ate my pile food, which I was done with in two minutes, and I was still hungry.

"Ash, you seriously have to compete in the world championship eating."Drew said with wide eyes. "Nobody can eat that fast."

"May can."I said, but I realized I might've just said the wrong words. I didn't know what was going on between them, but I didn't want to hurt Drew to hear May's name as much as it hurt me to hear Misty's name. But Drew didn't seem hurt at all, he just smiled.

"Even May isn't as fast as you are."Drew said, grinning.

"Well, a good pokémon trainer has to eat enough."I said confidently. "That's the only thing to make you stronger. That and training."

"So it's not the only thing anymore."Gary said. I glared at Gary, but was too tired to fight. So I sighed and stood up. "You going somewhere, Ketchum?"Gary snarled. "Have you forgotten we have school, and you would help me find Leaf as soon as that's over?"

"I'm tired, I'm going back to bed."I tried.

"No, you're not."Gary growled. "You promised me you would help looking for Leaf. You haven't done a damn thing lately. I am sick of being the one doing all the work. First you're ignoring us because you want to spend time with Misty, and now that it's over you ignore us because you don't want to see Misty. I don't know what the hell is going on in your mind, but you're not gonna sit on that lazy ass any longer."

"Well, I'm sorry that I have a life of my own!"Ash snapped. "I would look for Leaf, if I had an actual chance of finding her. But let's face it, none of us do. And right now there are other things I'm concerned about, and actually are going to help Leaf. And that's not running after you, Gary."

"Guys."Drew sighed. "No fighting, please." I wondered how it went from such a happy occasion to another fight. I was sick of fighting, sick of being sad all the time. Sick of being the dumb one around here. Everyone kept saying what an idiot I was, or that I made another mistake, or that I was doing it all wrong. Why couldn't I just do things myself without anyone saying what I did was wrong?!

I stood up, and walked out of the cafeteria. I didn't really want to go back to my dorm. I sighed. I didn't really want anything, except for everything to go back to the way it was before. Sometimes I wondered why I had been so stupid, but wasn't that exactly what everyone kept telling me, that I was stupid. I wanted to show them that I wasn't stupid, but they wouldn't believe me, would they? I accidentally bumped into someone.

"Sorry."I mumbled, and I quickly stood up. I wasn't planning on looking who I had bumped into. That person would just think I had the nerves to look down on him.

"That's okay."the guy I had bumped into answered. "You seem to be having a hard time. I mean, I know it's not at all easy right now, but that's not very like you. Can I help?" I looked up. Kenny smiled at me. I had actually never even paid attention to the guy. He was just one of those childhood friends the other had grown away from. In this case, Dawn. But she had forgiven him, and they were friends again. I first didn't get it, but now I started to. That smile was different than it used to. And maybe a smile was just what Dawn, and me too, needed. I smiled back.

"Yeah, it's just a little crazy, you know?"I replied. "I just broke up with Misty, Leaf is gone, Gary is yelling at me. I feel a little lost." Kenny frowned.

"Well, most of the time there's just one thing you need to do when you're lost."Kenny said shrugging. "You need to get to the source of your problems and fix it. If you broke up with Misty, go talk about it with your friends. I'm sure if you just fix all your problems, it'll start getting easier."

"Yeah, but I don't know how to fix my problems."I said slowly. "Gary wants me to search for Leaf, but I'm not feeling okay enough to go search for his girlfriend. Everyone expects that I broke up with Misty and that it's now just, over."

"Then tell them it isn't."Kenny proposed. "I don't know, man. You shouldn't ask me."

"No, I think you're right." I gave Kenny a shoulderpat. "I'm gonna apologize to Gary now. See you later." Kenny nodded, and let me run off to Gary. They were still all in the canteen, even though we had to be in class five minutes from now. So I sped up, and came panting before Gary. "Listen, I'm sorry. I want, and I truly mean it, I want to help you look for Leaf. But if I do, I need something that isn't gonna let me feel depressed. You don't want me to lack concentration because of... recently." Gary gave me a questionable look.

"Are you gonna look for Leaf now?"Gary asked.

"Yes, if you still want me to, that is."I replied, looking at the ground. Sometimes walking away and ignoring the problem wouldn't get me anywhere, and I should know that by now. I should stop being stupid. Gary chuckled.

"Let's get to class."he said, as if that was an answer. But it seemed alright. It didn't look like he was gonna be angry any longer. I walked after Gary to training. Paul was already there, glaring at us as we walked in. The teacher was late, as usual, and Misty sat next to nobody. She used to sit next to Leaf. The teacher quickly told us to start training, since he had already told us the basics. I guess it was time to forget my problems at the moment.

"Hey, Misty, let's train together, okay?"I asked, before anyone else could. She first looked up with an unspoken question written on her face. Then she looked angry.

"No, thank you."she said angrily, and she stiffened. "Don't scream at me while we're in the hospital, and say you want to train together as soon as we get the chance. No, I'll be fine training with Paul, thank you very much!" I sighed. I should've expected that one.

"I'm very sorry for screaming at you, but I'm not the enemy here."I said on a sharp tone. "I'm offering to train together, because I don't want things to get awkward during classes. Not to mention that my way of dealing with things... have been difficult to more people than just me. I know you're angry, even though you don't have any rights to be angry with me, but I need to keep things in check, and keep contact with anyone with information. So, wanna train together?" A glare. I closed my eyes, hoping she would agree when I did that.

"There is no way I'm going to forgive and forget that easily."she said, and she walked to Paul. Paul looked at me first before talking with Misty. I walked at Gary, sinking down in my chair.

"I'm done with her."I mumbled. Gary rolled his eyes.

"No, you're not."he pointed out. "You just say that to convince both me and yourself. Stop trying to win her back, move forward. I know that's something you're not good at, Ash. You had been clinging onto your mother for a long time, remember? But when you finally did things on your own, you began to show your true colors. I think Misty is your mother now. Let her go." I smiled at Gary.

"Don't worry,"I said, convinced. "I truly am." A smile escaped my lips. "Well, Oak, what do you say? Should we train?"

"Hmmm,"Gary started. "I guess so. Umbreon, I choose you!"

"Do you have any other pokémon?"I asked with a big grin on my face. "Swellow, it's your turn! Show him what you're made of!"

And... another useless Ash-chapter. I hate the quality of my chapters at the moment. But I'm just going through the days. Next one is better, I promise.
