Chapter 40

Day: Thursday.

Before I begin the chapter I want to give you all another thanks. Just seeing the Chapter 40 feels like a blessing. I've never come this far with any book. I haven't even come at the Chapter 10 with previous stories. On Wattpad or not, this is incredibly far. And I would've quit throughout it if wasn't for all the support I got from all of you. Just seeing how many reads this story has gotten is already too much to handle.

I started off as a little 13 year old, bored. Now I have had some times that I didn't know what to write. I have had times that I was sad and that influenced my chapters. I have had times when I was writing without really wanting to. But overall I think that I'm proud of how this has become and is still becoming. I'll go on with writing. I'll go on with improving. But I want you all to know that this book stays special to me. No matter how cringy it is. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I have never felt this good in a long, long time. Wattpad has really changed a lot in my life. And it's all thanks to you. If you read this, thank you. Thank you for putting up with me for so long. Thank you for staying with me, waiting, caring, commenting and voting. I say it every chapter, but thank you.

And that's enough! My thank you chapter will come later!

( May's POV )

I smiled as Dawn and Paul walked away. I couldn't help but look at their hands. I had reached out for Drew's hand, while we were told about the letter to Misty. But Drew had crossed his arms that moment, and it became impossible for me to hold his hand. He had found Skitty, and that was it. He hadn't talked to me after that. It was just... this.

I looked at Misty. She looked tired, but confident. They all seemed confident. I was sure none of them really was all so sure, but it felt like I was the only one scared as hell. Tonight we were about to meet with the person that had tried to kill Misty. That had shot Gary. Tonight.

"So, May, are you ready?"Misty asked. She saw this as an adventure, an experiment. I saw this as suicide. But I had agreed to it, because I didn't have a choice. I needed to help. I nodded slowly.

"Guess we're going."I stated. I put my hair in a ponytail, and put on my gloves. I was fully covered with black clothes. As if I was a thief like they were dressed in movies. Or a ninja. That suited me too. It was Ash, Gary, Drew, Misty and me. Paul and Dawn would stay at the dance, making sure everything would be alright there. It probably would be.

I took a rope with me, and we left. Into the darkness. The Vien Forest was close to school, and we got there quickly. Drew, Gary and Ash with us. Ash hid behind a building, just well enough not to be seen. Drew hid in a tree, and Gary and I hid in a bush. Gary would've gone in the tree if it wasn't for his, still not fully healed, arm. But we waited.

We had talked through the plan so many times, but I stayed nervous. Gary was getting afraid that she wouldn't come, and looked for any sign of Leaf every minute. I was just getting tired. It was late and I hadn't slept that well.

"Stay awake, May."Gary said throughout his search for Leaf. "We don't want you to doze off, while the rest is busy fighting."

"Since when can you fight?"I asked annoyed. He glared at me.

"Already some time."he muttered. My heartbeat was faster than I wanted to admit. This was it. I was gonna see who did everything, all the bad stuff that happened, I would see it. And she and Misty would negotiate. At least, try to. I looked at Drew in the tree. His green hair was too bright for the tree, but you would only spot him if you knew he was there. And he could hide his hair with the thief-suit. Gary seemed to blend in perfectly, and Ash was nowhere to be found. He somehow managed to be hidden the best of all. I breathed faster and faster as footsteps approached.

( ????? POV )

I had fought Derek. He could've killed me if he wanted to, but I had planned that would happen. So I brought him down with all the fighting techniques he had taught me. And I kidnapped Leaf. Poor girl. First she got kidnapped twice, now she got kidnapped from a kidnapper. I had hidden her in that old barn my grandfather used to have, before he passed away. Now I was there, picking Leaf up to bring her to Vien Forest.

She had yelled at me, tried to get out of my grips, screamed as if her life depended on how loud she screamed. She annoyed me, but it was all for a good cause. The cause of getting my revenge. Now she lay on the ground, silent and tied up. Her hair was beautifully brown. Her eyes were full of anger. And I just grinned evilly.

"You'll be leaving, sweetheart."I declared. Silence. Complete silence. But I guess silence was better than those screams. Just a little longer. If I was fast, Derek wouldn't even notice anyone. And then he couldn't stop me. Someone came in from behind. Softly, but I could hear him anyway.

"Derek, glad you joined the party."I lied. Not now. I had already brought Misty there. I had already made a plan. It didn't matter if she brought others or not, she would pay. And I didn't know what Derek had against her, but I would just use the fact that there was something.

"I told you, too risky."Derek responded. I rolled my eyes. Was he really gonna pretend like he cared? "I'm not gonna let you get away with Leaf. You're not ready, this isn't a good plan."

"I'm ready!"I yelled. "I thought up a plan, I have perfect control over everyone. Even if she brought others, I have a way of dealing with it! Derek, don't you want to kill Misty? Get your revenge on whatever you have against her? I want to rip her apart. Tonight, my dream will come true. And I suggest you'll come with me. Your dear Leaf will be safe and sound. Others might not be." Derek seemed to doubt what he was doing, but he was a stubborn guy.

"You know, out of all people, you're the one who knows best how much I hated this teacher job."Derek started. "And history? Seriously? I hate history. It's just about dead people that will never come back to life. I hated it, and I still do. I regret taking that job, and I promise you, you will regret picking the wrong date to kill Misty. We can do it tomorrow, together. Just don't..."

"Too late."I interrupted him. "I sent a letter, in which I said she should go to the Vien Forest. If not, Leaf would die, if she brought others, not only Leaf would die. It's simple, and effective. I brought a gun, knives. I'll be fine." Derek looked at Leaf. That anger was still in her eyes, but focused on me. And she stayed silent, as expected. Then Derek's gaze got at me again.

"I understand I won't be able to talk you out of this?"he asked.

"You've understood that very well."I answered. The atmosphere was annoying me, but then again, what wasn't? My suit was already on, weapons stuck out of it. Such a strong person. The old me was nothing compared to the new me. Nothing.

"Then I'll go with you."Derek said, and I had to do my best not to sigh out of relief. "But only to protect you, and out of anyone's sight. Let's see who'll kill Misty?" A grin appeared on my face. A maniac, that was what I had turned into. And I didn't regret it one bit. My eyes were fixed on Leaf again.

"I'll carry her."I stated. "Now you'll go act like an elite sharpshooter. Since you're good at anything, I guess that won't be hard for you." Derek smiled as he picked up a gun.

"Oh, this'll be fun."

"Jerk!"Leaf yelled, but none of us took the time to look at her, or listen to her. I picked her up, holding her bridal style, otherwise I might just accidentally kill her with all the weapons sticking out of my suit. And we couldn't let that happen. I started walking to Vien Forest. The barn was in Vien, so it was almost as close as the school. I hoped Derek hadn't held me up too long. Misty might already be there. But it didn't matter. If she was, I could just kill her with more ease.

I softly whistled a song, an old nursery rhyme. I hadn't heard any music in quite some time. So nursery rhymes were the only songs I knew. Not counting a few other old songs.

"Quit, now."Derek said annoyed. I growled.

"Why do you always kill all my fun?"

"Because I'm a killer, that's who I am."

( Misty's POV )

I stood there, waiting. Every second passing by, was another second I could think about what could go wrong. But I kept standing. The only thought keeping me here was that Ash, Gary, May and Drew were closeby. If I wanted I could call for their help.

I had never been this nervous before. Not for a test, not for a presentation, not for anything. My hands were shaking, but I tried to cover it up by crossing my arms. It was cold, and my thin leather jacket didn't really protect me from it, but I couldn't be complaining now. I just wished she would come, with Leaf. If I could just see Leaf again, that was enough for me. The Vien Forest was dark, and the chirping birds were only making me feel more anxious. I realized there were a lot of times that I looked Ash's way, only to not be able to see him. Frustrating.

Gary and May sometimes talked, just because they could. But they were mostly quiet. And then I started hearing footsteps. I unintentionally stopped breathing. My heart beated faster than ever before. I didn't know where to put my hands, so I just didn't move them. And my legs couldn't move either. A leg appeared, covered in something that looked like some sort of black armor. And before that black armor was a girl. Light brown hair, blue eyes, wearing a blue shirt, red skirt and trainers. Yes, Leaf was here. And she didn't look that good. A bandage around her head, paler than I'd ever seen her and bruised everywhere. I almost looked Gary's way, but kept myself from doing that. That would reveal him.

Then I looked at the person holding her. She was in something that, indeed, looked a lot like a black armor. Her hair tied up in a ponytail. Her eyes looking at me with such bloodlust. And I held my breath once again. This girl, she was, she was...

Sky.

________________________________________________________________________________

Ha! It was Sky! I hope that wasn't too obvious. I mean, because I knew it, it seems a bit obvious to me.

Sorry that it's not one of those really long chapters I usually make, but it was hard not to keep it at 600 words. I tried to keep the revealing of the killer until the end of this chapter.

Now, you're probably disappointed. I would be, at least. But if you have any questions, or things of that sort, feel free to PM me. I'll answer your questions in the last chapter. And to you, immediately.

Also, I just came up with someone else who could've been the killer. And that would've been better for the story, but I had Sky in my mind when I started the story, so yeah, it's Sky. But, remember that cheerleader I mentioned in one of the earlier chapters? The one that was so mean to Leaf? Yeah, she could've been the killer. And that would've been better, but whatever. Oh, and you'll never know what Derek's real name is. Ha!
