Chapter 43
Day: Probably the last chapter that it's Thursday. Somehow I like that day now. And the funny thing is that the day hasn't been that long. It's just all Thursday night. I do wonder when it'll be midnight. Then it's actually Friday. But that's not yet, I guess. Oh well!
( Drew's POV )
It took some time, but after a while nurse Joy finally arrived. May was the first to get brought to the hospital, followed by Red, Gary and Sky. Nurse Joy looked at all of us for some severe injuries, but in the end only Misty had those. But she needed to go with officer Jenny, just like all of us. I sat in between Ash and Dawn. Dawn had a worried look in her eyes, and her dress was ripped apart. I would buy her a new one as a goodbye to her. After all, that was still happening. Ash was just silent.
Officer Jenny had given me a jacket to warm myself with, since my shirt was still around May's waist. Misty sat in front, and Leaf beside Ash. Officer Jenny didn't have a pitying look in her eyes anymore, and looked angry instead. She stopped the car in front of the police office, helping us all to get inside. So we did. She walked with us and waited until we had sat down long enough for it to get awkward. Then she slammed her fist on the table.
"I'll be firing questions at you, and I suggest you answer truthfully."officer Jenny snapped. "Only one person at a time. Firstly, how did you all know where to be?" It stayed a bit silent, but we knew one of us had to start talking.
"I got a letter from the killer."Misty said slowly. "It lays on my desk, back home. It was pretty much that I had to come to the border of Vien Forest, alone, so that Leaf wouldn't die." Officer Jenny looked at Leaf. I hadn't really paid any attention to her, and she hadn't talked to make me pay attention to her. It was like she still wasn't here. Leaf didn't say anything now either.
"And why didn't you come to the police to talk about this?"
"If I would tell the police, they said they would kill Leaf."Misty said indignant. "And I know that if it's a threat I get sent, they're going to keep that threat as if it's a promise. I didn't want Leaf to die."
"And why did you bring your other friends into this?"officer Jenny asked sharply.
"I wasn't sure what to do, and I needed help."Misty admitted. "I came there with my friends, who were hidden. I was there to save Leaf, and I knew the killer was planning on killing me. So I brought my friends for backup, if needed."
"And if you brought your friends, why didn't you bring the police, who are professionals? Not to mention we could've made things easier for your friends, so that there would be less wounded."
"It doesn't work like that."Misty said, sighing a bit. "My friends have been through this from the beginning. They wouldn't dare speak to me if I had alarmed the police, not them. They wanted this to be solved more than you did. And I can imagine just how badly you wanted this solved."
"You're not taking this the right way!"officer Jenny yelled. "You could end up in prison for keeping secrets like this from the police! I will have to go through a lot of trouble will you all be safe at school! Next question, who is Derek?" I had no fucking idea who Derek was. I had never even heard someone with the name Derek. Not once. I had no idea what this woman was blabbering about.
"I'm not sure if it's his real name, but he goes as our history teacher."Leaf started. Wow, she hadn't lost her tongue after all. "He's the brains after all the murders. It's just recently that my memories started coming back. He gave me questions that I didn't understand back then. He trained Sky to what she is now. He paid her, so that Misty would be killed. He's also that man that got away." Jenny sighed in annoyance.
"Ah, so that's Derek."she said sharply. "I'll look him up in the files of Almia High. Now on to the next question, why the hell did that black haired girl want to kill Misty?" Misty sighed.
"She holds a personal grudge against me for something that happened in the past."
"Please, do tell."Jenny said in a demanding tone. "I'm an officer, I need to know every detail of what happened. And you need a lawyer, since I won't be able to keep you out of prison if you have any more secrets."
"It's... personal."Misty said, a bit annoyed by officer Jenny doing her job. But officer Jenny just rose an eyebrow, waiting for an actual explanation. "I used to be really good friends with her, and her traveling companion. She had this huge crush on him, and I knew that. Still, I kinda started dating that guy she liked, and..."
"Okay, stop talking."officer Jenny said with a disgusted face. "I don't need the details."
"You just said you wanted to hear every detail."Misty said confused.
"Just... I get it. Thank you, Misty. I totally get why she was trying to murder you. I don't need the rest of the story to figure that out." Misty nodded. I had to do my best not to smile. She was so smart. Only by saying the truth, officer Jenny didn't want to hear the rest. Which meant her secret was safe. Officer Jenny cleared her throat. "What happened at the school gym...?"
"Was Sky's fault."Dawn interrupted officer Jenny. "She was the one who activated that bomb, because Misty hadn't come alone. We didn't know she had a bomb there, I swear!"
"It's alright."officer Jenny said, for the first time a bit calmer. "That is one of those parts that isn't gonna get you into prison." I was so stupid to agree with Misty's plan. I didn't want to hear all officer Jenny's questions, I just wanted to stay with May. And where was Paul? How come Dawn was here, but Paul wasn't? Where was that asshole?
"Was that all, officer?"Ash asked. His face calm and determined. He must've learned that from Pikachu.
"No, actually, there is still one remaining question."officer Jenny said, and she sat on her desk. "Why did they kill all those other, innocent people, when they were after the redhead?"
"Barry had been my fault."Leaf responded. We all looked at Leaf. "I've written everything I know in letters. Derek still has them, maybe he'll leave with them. But I still remember everything. I even remember where they kept me. One of the questions Derek had asked me that one night that I couldn't remember, he asked me to say a random name. I said Barry." Dawn suddenly tensed up a bit. "I didn't know what they were gonna do with it, and I had been stupid to say his name. But I can't go back in time and change what I did."
Officer Jenny sighed. "And Brendan? Was he with them?" Leaf nodded.
"Bullshit."I said. "Brendan left five days ago." Everyone looked at me.
"Where to?"Jenny asked me. I shrugged. I had forgotten the others didn't know about the little chat May, Brendan and I had at the airport. Where was he now anyway? I didn't know, and I didn't care. Brendan was already dead, and he somehow made me hate both sides of him. "Well, why did he leave?"
"I don't know, okay?"I said annoyed. "He was being all secretive about everything. I don't even believe May knew. And I know what happened to that guy only because of May. You should ask Sky about him. I'm sure she would know."
"I will ask her about him, thank you very much."officer Jenny said. "Though I do need to inform you all that Sky will have the right of getting a lawyer. I need you all to be there, and I hopefully get the chance to get her there tomorrow."
"She's injured, how will you get her there?"Ash asked.
"A wheelchair."officer Jenny replied. "I'm sure that'll do the trick. In the end, her bullets weren't very deep. Must be because of the distance it has been shot from."
"Yeah, who shot that?"Misty asked. No answer.
"Great, another mystery."officer Jenny sighed. "Luckily, your friends will have to answer to me too. How many of you knew about all this?"
"May, Gary, Ash, Dawn, Drew, Red and me."Misty said. "In other words, seven." Jenny sighed.
"I'll talk to your parents."officer Jenny snarled. "Give me their phone number and I'll call them. All of your parents will be informed. And I'll make sure you all don't have to get into prison, hopefully you don't even need a lawyer." We all nodded. "Now, I'm gonna look up who this Derek is. I suggest you all, are going back to your school to sleep."
"But the gym..."Dawn began.
"The gym is only the gym."officer Jenny snapped. "The bomb wasn't big enough to do any more damage than the gym. Now go, before I'll rethink my generosity." We nodded and ran back. A policeman brought us back to school. It was weird seeing how a large part of it was completely destroyed. But our dorms seemed to be fine. It was different when the curtains weren't closed, and it was only Ash and I. I walked to my room, closing the curtains and changing in my pajamas. I fell on my bed, not bothering to brush my teeth. May was in the hospital, Gary was in the hospital, Misty had also gone to the hospital after officer Jenny's sermon. Red had also gone to the hospital, though I didn't really care about that guy. I had just stood there and done nothing.
I sighed and switched off the light, rolling over to my side. I closed my eyes, thinking about what had happened this night, and what I could've done. Tomorrow I had to go. I forgot to tell that to officer Jenny. Though what difference would it make if she knew. It might be that my parents would get me to Hoenn later, but I would go no matter what.
( Derek's POV )
I ran inside the large building. I had ran for about an hour, but I wasn't tired, yet. I ran over to my desk, searching through my stuff. I had only a small Bersa Thunder .380, nothing extremely useful. I cursed aloud, and slammed my fist against the wall. I spotted one of Leaf's exercise books and grabbed it to tear it apart. Instead I spotted a rather interesting page. I couldn't remember an exercise where you had to write a letter to someone.
Dear Gary,
Today, nothing much happened. I get more and more back of my memory, and I know just how much I'm at fault here. You helped me that day I remembered Derek's face. Yes, that girl called him Derek, I'm not exactly sure if it's his real name. But right now it's all I have, since his difficult name as history teacher was a fake anyway. Brendan still hasn't showed up. I'm getting more at ease here, though I still know it's not gonna end well. They aren't just gonna let me go, right?
I didn't read any further. That bitch must've told her friends all about what had happened. Sky was gonna end up in jail, I was fugitive, and Misty was still alive. I had been right when I said Sky was making a mistake. I had been so damn right, and I had agreed. Why had I given up on being stubborn? I should know by now that if I wasn't, Sky was gonna get caught. Or die... I had promised I would avenge my sister for what Misty had done to her. And I had messed up.
I messed up, big time.

Goodbye Thursday, hello Friday.
I'm not particularly very proud of this chapter. I don't really know what it is. But I at least updated.
I finished the writing of this book though! The only thing left to do is publishing. I'll probably update more often too, because of my spring break. :)
