Testing

This is the sixth chapter. Hope you enjoy it. WARNING: there will be a bit of blood and knife related stuff in this chapter.

Some time later...

Garth, wear black trousers and a grey shirt, stood with Sue and Reed on a room with a large glass window, (in front of a computer on Sue's right) Johnny in a massive Titanium box below. Garth was helping the others test out their powers. Of course, his scientific knowledge wasn't a far as there's, but there was still a need for his biology skills. "He's heating up from his core." Reed spoke. "And his vitals are completely normal." Sue added. "His whole body's covered in flames, yet his molecular structure is completely intact, eh?" Garth added, seeing the information from his computer. Garth then looked over at Reed's computer, and saw Johnny's temperature, which was getting pretty hot. A little too hot. So hot his eyes widened. "That's hotter than I anticipated. Okay, Johnny, back it down." Reed ordered to Johnny below. "I can go hotter!" Johnny replied from within the box, a few seconds before, when he looked down at the box, Garth saw orange heat emerge through the gaps in the box. "Johnny, just back it down!" Sue ordered but to no avail. Johnny kept getting hotter and hotter, the light of the head causing them to cover their eyes, Garth holding up his right arm. "Johnny, back it down right now!" Reed shouted. "Johnny!" Sue added. "Listen to us!" Garth added, desperate to yell 'idiot' at him, as he moved his left hand in front of his eyes due to the brightness. A few seconds later, Reed pressed a red button which then sprayed on Johnny foam, which made him stop. Garth followed Reed and Sue out of the room they were in, and, standing against the railing on Sue' right, looked down at a laughing Johnny through a hole in the box. "Buzz-kill! You guys are crampin' my style!" He said, covered in foam. "Johnny, you were last recorded at 4000 degrees Kelvin. A few more seconds and you've reached 5000." Garth explained. "Sweet!" Johnny spoke. "No, not sweet. That's the temperature of the Sun." Sue said back. "Not only could you kill yourself, but you could set fire to Earth's atmosphere, and destroy all human life as we know it." Reed explained, which did make Garth feel a bit uneasy inside. "Got it. Sun-temp, bad." Johnny spoke, doing a thumps up with both his foam covered hands.

Next up, it was Ben, who was sitting in a desk while Reed moved what looked like an X-ray in front of his body. "If we're going to identify the source of the mutation, we need to isolate your recombinant DNA, so we can activate positional genomes." Reed spoke, though Garth didn't understand a word of it, and from the looks of it, Ben didn't either. "Huh?" He asked, looking at Sue. "We have to do a physical in there to see what got zapped." Sue explained. "Oh. Why didn't you say so?" Ben asked rhetorically. Then the three of them then stood in front of a computer, Garth behind and in between Sue and Reed, which then showed an green-black image of Ben's inside, and what he saw made his mouth and eyes widen in shock. Ben's oranges were literally solid. Rock solid. He was rock/solid inside out. Yet they were all still working somehow, like his heart, which was still beating, as they could somehow hear. "His internal organs are completely solid." Reed spoke in shock, before they all looked at Ben, who then looked worried. "How bad is it? You know, I used to smoke." He asked with worry. "Uh... uh... your lungs, your heart, your entire body, is stone. Fortunately, everything is still functioning normally somehow." Garth explained. Then, they moved on. Sue tried hitting a reflex hammer against Ben's right knee. "You feel anything?" She asked, trying a few times. "Nope." Ben answered. "We're gonna need a bigger hammer, eh?" Garth said, while staring down at the situation. Reed then went away and a few seconds later, came back with a normal hammer. "Okay." He exhaled, before he struck Ben's knee with the hammer, which made him move his right knee upwards, which caused a chair to be thrown across the room, hitting a map of the world. Then they did an X-ray of Garth's inside, since the equipment was ready and he was there at the moment, and his internal organs were completely healthy and normal, with no change at all. But yet, Garth wasn't entirely sure about that yet.

Then it was Garth's turn. He was currently sitting on a chair beside a lab table, his left hand behind a glass panel, a cashmere like device pointed down at it, Reed a foot or two ahead of him, a computer on the table besides him, while holding a a small blow torch above his left hand, letting the flame burn the brown fur black. Then he placed the blow torch down and looked at the computer, while Garth looking down at his hand, seeing the same effects as before. "Your damaged cells, skin and tissue and... hair, they all began repairing, reproducing, and growing themselves back almost immediately. Your cells multiplied and reproduced themselves 1000 times faster than a humans." Reed explained, moving his head to look at Garth, who rolled his eyes. "It's fur, Reed." Garth corrected, processing what that meant. "I wonder..." He said, before he then stood up, ignored Reed's question of where he was going, walked over to the opposite table, rummaging around what was on it until he found a scalpel knife. He then struck the blade against his left palm, whinching from the pain as a gash a blood appear in the fur from the cut, which ran in a line across most of the palm of hand. He stared for a few seconds, waiting, hopefully, and then, the cut then began sealing itself, the fur regrowing, and before he knew it, there was no trace of the cut left. He left out a single sharpe exhale as he then looked leftwards at Reed, who was still in his chair. "Well?" He asked. "It healed,eh?" Garth answered. Then he suddenly had a brainstorm. He then turned back to the table, placing the blood covered scalpel in a clean bag, then rummaged around the stuff on the table, before he found a bigger knife. He hadn't exactly thought this through, but his curiosity as to what he could do took over him. He then placed a clean bag entirely over his left hand, grabbed the knife with a bandage bundle and another bag, with his right hand, then walked over to a biohazard bin, opened it with his right foot, placed the bandage on the table held out his left arm and bag covered hand over the bin. He exhaled sharply, then started sawing the knife at the edge of the bag, literally cutting off his left hand!

He narrowed his eyes as he kept cutting, completely concentrating on it, trying his best to ignore the sight of the bloodthst was emerging from the cutting causing, and, strangely, like on the bridge, he was hardly feeling any pain. "Oh, my god! Garth, is that even hurting?" He heard Reed ask, not bothering to look at him, keeping his sight focused entirely on the cutting. "Besides a slight stinging, nothing at all." Garth answered through gritted teeth. A few seconds later, he had reached the bottom of his arm, and the moment he'd cut what skin remained, his former left hand, covered by the bag, fell into the bin. Moving rapidly, he shutter the bin lid by removing his rigth foot, packed the blood covered knife In the other bag, and then as quickly as he could, he wrapped the bandaged with his right hand around the blood red hole where his left hand had been. Having finished wrapping it, keeping his forearm facing upwards, he turned leftwards to face Reed, who stood a foot or toe away from him, his face slightly paled, with wide eyes and a gaping open mouth. "Uh...Wh-what was that for?" He managed to say. "To test myself. That's what we're doing here, right, eh? Maybe it'll grow back." He answered. Reed then turned his head leftwards and then rightwards, then he moved to the table by the wall and windows. "Uh... send in Sue." He spoke as he moved to another computer and began setting things up for her tests. "Right." Garth replied before he then turned around and walked towards the door of the lab. He stepped out the lab, looked at Sue, who was standing by the door. "Your up." He said, stepping away from the door as Sue walked in, leaving him hoping and praying that his, that if a  cut could be healed in just a few seconds, then maybe left hand could grow back. Around 10 minutes later, he began noticed a strange tingly feeling from the top of his bandage. Moving his forearm upwards, he grasped the bandage with his right hand, slowly started removing the blood stained bandage off the top of his forearm, and then, he saw something which filled him with delight for the first time in months: his hand was growing back, but it was the size of a baby's hand, the difference was the skin that sloped up to it from the edges of his forearm, and that it was covered in fur.

Turning around, he scrambled back towards the lab, opened the door with his right hand, then move it to touch his left mid forearm. He ran up to Sue, Reed and Johnny, who turned around, and Garth saw he had holes in his shirt, as he came up to them, on Johnny's right. "Hey! Hey, you guys! Just 10 minutes ago, I cut it off and look! Growing back!" He cried, showing them his tiny hand, the three before him looking at it. Johnny then started laughing and pointed his left index finger it. "Baby hand!" He laughed. And that ruined Garth's happy mood.

A few hours later, Reed brought Garth the blue uniform he'd worn in space, told him to put it on and meet him with the others. So, though very much confused, he put it on, and met Johnny, Reed and Sue in their suits too, Ben sitting on a sofa with a drink. "Our uniforms were exposed to the storm,  like us, so they can transform like us. Becoming invisbile, changing size or healing, regrowing on demand, or remaining impervious to flame." Reed explained. "You guys look like an 80s rock band." Ben laughed. "You know, Ben, this material stretches. I'm sure I can find a way to make it fit." Sue said. "I wouldn't be caught dead wearing that." Ben said back. "No offence, Ben, but I don't think it would make you look any better. Plus, I don't really think blue is your colour." Garth spoke. "I love these costumes! They're missing something, though. Needs, like, spice..." Johnny began saying loudly, and too excitedly. Garth turned around to face Johnny, and felt that 'costumes' was the wrong word, rolled his eyes as Reed interrupted Johnny. "They're not costumes." He said. "You can use your powers in public, Johnny." Sue told him, while he was doing some punching-like moves. "Yeah, you could somebody, eh?" Garth added. "You guys are worse than NASA." Johnny said back. "Johnny." Sue scoffed. "Maybe its missing a utility belt." Ben chuckled. Garth then turned his head to look at Reed, who also looked him. Garth then mouthed "No" at him.

And that's the sixth chapter done. Hope you enjoyed it. And I hope the picture was okay. I changed the temperature part about Johnny's temperature, to make it a bit more accurate, as the sun's temperature is around 5000 degrees Kelvin, and a Supernova is billions of degrees Kelvin hot. So I guess you now understand what Garth's power is. In case you haven't, it is: Superhuman Healing, while be able to grow back limbs, and feeling pretty much no pain. By the way, sorry about the blood and hand cutting off part. I got the idea from "Deadpool" (2016).
