Chapter 3
Emily POV
Berlin at night was nice, or at least that's what I could tell from the window of my racing car that just busted through a blown up wall from a building we broke into. Roman, Tej, Ramsey, Hobbs, Dom, and I all teamed up and broke into a top security building to grab this case before it all just backfired.
"You were only supposed to create a diversion, Roman," I said through the ear piece. "That was a diversion," Roman yelled into my ear, making me roll my eyes.
Tej came on, sounding a bit angry, "How many of the damn explosives did you use?" "I do not know, Tej. All of it?" Roman said, saying the last part quieter as he realized how bad that sounded.
Hobbs wasted no time cuing in, "Roman, Jesus Christ!"
Looking in my rearview mirror, I saw metal jeeps and police cars turn and chase after us. "You have more of your fan club," I said, making a sharp turn while everyone else followed.
"They're still on us," Tej said before bullets started to bounce off the cars, creating an echoing sound inside.
"These guys are taking this personal," Roman said as we made another sharp turn. "Roman, we just blown up their facility and stole their EMP. Other than your doctor's cold fingers, I'd say it's about as personal as it can get," Hobbs said, making me nod in agreement.
Dom, who had kept quiet most of the time, tuned in, "Phase 2."
Roman's panicked voice make me want to turn the ear piece off and just wing it from here. "Phase 2? So you just gonna keep that to yourself? What happen to Phase 1? What about that part?"
"Yeah, remember the airplane? Everyone drove their cars out but you," Tej said. "I told you my engine seized up," Roman objected. "It's your balls that seized up," I said, for a second forgetting that everyone could hear me.
Someone sighed before Tej spoke up, "Just follow my lead, okay? And Roman, whatever you do. Don't think."
"Tej, drop it," Dom said, clearly getting tired of the conflict between the two.
"Bomb's away," Tej said, before a wrecking ball was released, flying towards us. "Split now!" Dom yelled through the ear pieces, causing everyone to turn and run their cars on the sides of the road. The wrecking ball flies past us before crashing and destroying most of the cars behind us before returning back past us again.
Roman wasted no time in telling Tej that he missed some. "Oh, just wait for it," Tej said before the wrecking ball past us again, destroying all of the cars behind us.
This gives us plenty of time to race off. I race forward, meeting Dom's car and looking over to him. I expected to see a smile on his face or a laugh leave his lips but he had a straight face. And his eyes, his eyes told a regrettable story that worried and confused me.
"You good?" I asked, making Dom let out a sigh before staring ahead, "I'll see you when it's done." "Alright. Great job, team. Let's break up and meet me at the safe house," Hobbs said before Dom and Hobbs turned to the left and Ramsey, Tej, Roman, and I turned to the right.
My eyes couldn't help but look in my rearview mirror, seeing Dom disappear into the darkness.
Something was wrong, off, with Dom. Usually after a mission finished, he'd drive away with a wide smile and tell everyone they did a great job. Instead, he did and said nothing, as if he was no longer leading us.
That's not Dominic Toretto.
"That son of a bitch just crossed us," Hobbs came over the ear pieces, making my face quickly form a confused look, "What?" "Dom took the EMP," Hobbs said, sounding like he was in pain.
My mouth dropped slightly as I starred ahead at the road. "Bullshit," Roman said in disbelief. "Where are you?" I quickly asked, ready to turn around and confront Hobbs on his accusations. "It's too late for me. Get out of here. I saw that look in his eyes. I've seen that look before."
"What look?" I asked, my voice sounding a bit harsh as I heard an agent accuse my husband of leaving us. "Dominic Toretto just went rogue," Hobbs said, his voice echoing in my ear.
Quickly I shook my head and tore the ear piece out of my ear. My chest heaved up and down, as my hands gripped onto the steering wheel. Suddenly, my foot slammed onto the break, screeching my car to a stop.
My hand grabbed my phone and quickly pushed Dom's name before holding it up to my ear. It rang and rang until it hit the voicemail box. Once again, I found myself hanging up and trying again, only to have it go right to voicemail now.
"Dom, where are you? What's going on? Hobbs said you went rough but I know you, you wouldn't do that." A sigh left my lips as I looked at my stomach, "Please call me, call us," I said before hanging up.
Picking up speed, I raced over to the garage unit where the rest of the team waited.
Instantly, I found myself in Dom's car, looking through it in hopes of finding some information that would explain why Dom left. Why I searched, Tej, Ramsey, and Roman talked about the whole thing. "Alright, I got his phone records, y'all. It's a whole bunch of calls to untraceable numbers," Tej said.
"Burner phone, right?" Roman asked?
"Nah. Scrambled. Same number but they got some sort of micro-router to bury the signal path which means Dom is clearly communicating with somebody that is above our pay grade."
My hands opened the glove compartment, stopping when I saw three pictures and a folded up piece of paper. Slowly my hands grabbed the pictures, looking through them to find a family picture of Dom, Brian, Mia, Jack, and I. The next picture was one of just Dom and me in his car, looking out his window and smiling at the camera. The last picture was of Dom kissing me, the first day of our honeymoon.
The folded up piece of paper sat in the glove compartment, making me drop the pictures and reach in to grab it.
Ramsey spoke up, "Look, I do not know Dom as well as you, but if we just look at the facts. Dom's been having highly encrypted conversation with some mysterious person. He took out Hobbs. He stole the EMP, now he's disappeared."
"So what're you saying?" Tej asked?
"Maybe we should consider the fact that Hobb's right. Dom did go rogue," Ramsey said, making my hand grab the door, slip out, and the slam it behind me. Quickly, my feet stormed up to Ramsey, causing Roman to quickly grab my arm, "Emily-"
My voice cut Roman off, "Before you judge the man, remember you're breathing now because he saved your life. And he wouldn't do this on purpose. He wouldn't leave this family, he wouldn't leave me, and he would leave..." My voice trailed off, stopping before I let out the news. Taking a deep breath, I let out a shaky sigh, "Dominic Toretto wouldn't leave without a reason."
With that, I turned and walked away.
Walking up some steps, I made my way into one of the rooms that was mostly used as a relaxing room. Sitting on the couch, my eyes looked at the folded piece of paper in my hands.
Sucking in another breath, I opened the piece of paper, immediately reading the words.
Dear Emily,
If you found this letter, then it means that you've torn apart my car in hopes of finding answer. And to that I say, "That's my girl". I know you're confused and torn and heartbroken right now, I also know that you'd never give up hope on me. But this mission, you can't be a part of. I have to do something, something bad, but when it's done, I'll be home. I love both of you so much, but I'm asking you to ignore our ride or die promise and just sit back. Please.
Love Dom
My tears couldn't help but start to fall, causing me to quickly wipe them before stuffing the letter into my pocket and leaving the garage.
I found myself back in my car, driving down the road through the day and night only to park right in front of the city that was my home. As I opened the door to the garage, there sat an empty room which once held Dom's car.
The room and was quiet and empty, which it never seemed to be until now.
My phone kept going off with Tej, Roman, and even Ramsey's names as they tried calling me. Probable in hopes that I wouldn't do something crazy, like go after Dom. But even though I wanted too, I had no lead, nothing to go off of, nothing but a simple letter that was telling me to just stay and wait.
And now, that's what it felt like I was doing.
It wasn't until the name Mr. Nobody popped up on my phone that I scrambled to answer it. His name brought me hope that Hobbs or someone had contacted him and asked for help. So when he asked me to come in, I didn't turn it down.
Once again, I found myself racing down the roads, headed for the undisclosed location that the only way I could find it was by follow two cars that met me half-way.
When my car came to a halt inside the giant garage that had more people fixing on cars then business people, I climbed out.
My eyes looked around, spotting Mr. Nobody who waited with a smile and a nod. His hands were crossed behind his back when I made my way up to him, wanting to get straight to the point.
"Where is he?"
"Hello to you too Emily," Mr. Nobody said. "Where is he?" I pushed again, making a sigh leave his lips. Placing a hand on my back, Mr. Nobody led me up some stairs, down a hallway, and into a giant room.
In front of me sat a large table holding Ramsey, Tej, Roman, and Hobbs. Finding an empty chair towards the back, which lead me to sit in front of Hobbs, I focused my attention on Mr. Nobody.
"Great, thank you all for being here," Mr. Nobody said with a giant smile.
"Wait, wait, wait, who's he?" Roman asked, pointing to a younger looking man next to Mr. Nobody. I didn't even notice him until just now.
"He's nothing he's like less than me," Mr. Nobody said. Apparently, we won't be learning his name anytime soon so I guess he'll be picking up the name Mr. Nothing. "How about we focus on the reason I brought you all here? We are awaiting hard confirmation, but..." A picture was thrown up onto the computer screen of a long blonde haired lady. "I believe that's the cyber terrorist known as Cipher."
"Wait, no, Cipher's an organization. Not a person," Ramsey said, clearly knowing who this lady was. "Not according to our sources," Mr. Nobody said with a sigh.
"What does she want?" I asked, confused why she was so important and why we were here. My eyes moved to Ramsey who looked at the table, shaking her head, "I don't know. Cipher is like a digital active God. She can manipulate world systems under shadows. Anything that can be hacked."
Mr. Nothing pointed to Ramsey, "And here is the kicker. You will never find her linked to any other. Her digital identity is scrubbed every few seconds worldwide."
Tej spoke up, practically reading my mind when he said, "So basically, she's the boogeyman." Roman wasted no time backing up Tej's comment with one of his famous ones, "One of the hottest boogeyman I have ever seen, I mean, if y'all know her, tell her to get extra boy."
Raising my voice a little, I said annoyingly, "What the hell does any of this have to do with us?"
Mr. Nobody focused his attention on me, understanding why I was so upset. So he wasted no time answering my question, "Probably nothing, Emily. But, I do find it interesting, apparently for some reason. She's now working with this guy." My heart sunk and my mouth dropped as I looked at the photo Mr. Nobody brought up.
Dom.
My mind raced for reasons and explanations as Mr. Nothing spoke, "He's already delivered a fully operational EMP into her hands. Detonate that, they can turn any city in the world into a war zone."
"So then what is it that you're suggesting?" Tej asked, clearly shocked by the picture as well. This was our team mate, our family, on that screen, helping the enemy.
Mr. Nobody started to pace, "Well, first let's catch him and then figure out why he's turned."
Roman needed a clarification, "So y'all want us to track Dom?"
Mr. Nobody and Roman spoke to each other as I turned my chair, setting both of my hands on the table, still caught in a disbelief stage. My stomach felt queasy and I swore I was going to throw up, until Mr. Nobody said, "Which is why I'm bringing in an extra pair of hands."
My head looked up, watching as the door opened and Decker Shaw walked in. Immediately, I was brought to my feet, anger rolling off of me as I fast walked over to him, "You son of a bitch!"
Hobbs jumped in front of me, putting his arms out and stopping me before I could punch him. My body struggled against Hobbs for another 30 seconds before I finally gave up, stopping my feet and glaring at Decker Shaw.
"Mr. Nobody, you want to tell me why you just put us in a room with this teen crumpeting criminal, some bitch," Hobbs asked angrily? "You got a big mouth on a small head. Coming from prisoner 6753," Decker said, looking at Hobbs.
"Don't think we've forgotten everything that you've done," I spat at Decker, before pushing Hobb's hands off of me and fast walking back to my chair.
Tej quickly spoke up, not wasting a beat as he pointed out, "We're not teaming up with this guy." Decker looked over at Tej, then to all of us, "Let's get one thing clear. I ain't on your team. I don't care about you, you crew, or your little family. I'm here for Cipher."
Hobbs fully turned to Decker, crossing his arms, "You gonna apply for a job, Head-asshole?"
Decker glared at Hobbs, clearly wanting to shoot him some smart ass comment but silenced his mouth. "Cipher came to me first. Wanted me to steal Nightshade for her. When I said no, she went off to my brother."
Mr. Nobody smiled and nodded, "Oh Yes. Brother Owen, who could forget him? Former hell-raiser and current guest, at a nasty little black site prison."
Decker agreed, "Cipher corrupted him, left him for dead. So if I get a shot to take her down, believe me, flicks I'm taking it." If his words were supposed to reassure us, it didn't. Instead, they just worried me, filling my brain with the worst possible thoughts.
"You're taking my boot right up your ass," Hobbs said, taking a step towards Decker only to be stopped by Mr. Nobody's voice.
"Guys, guys, guys. The fastest way to find Cipher is through Toretto. Now aside from myself, there's only two men in the world that have ever managed to actually track him. And guess what, they're both standing in front of me right now. So like it or not, you two are gonna work together. You got that?" He asked Hobbs and Decker who said nothing. "I'm gonna take that as a yes."
"Am I the only one seeing this?" Roman asked, causing Mr. Nothing to sigh, "Oh, this oughtta be good."
Roman's voice spoke as if it had come up with the best idea ever, "Use God's eye. We put our lives on the line, running around the world trying to figure this thing out. It can find anybody, right? Let's use it to find Dom."
Mr. Nobody smiled, looking at Roman, "Roman, that is a great idea. Too bad that's where we started. Cipher's already created an evasion that masked her location by pinging random spots all over the globe. But it was a good thought Roman."
Ramsey nodded, "So she's made my programme obsolete." Mr. Nobody looked over at her with a smile, "And that Ramsey is why you are here. See, simple solutions aren't gonna cut it here."
Tej quickly spoke up, shaking his head as he hurried over to the computers. My eyes watched him and Ramsey as they spoke to each other like they were meant to be. As I watched them, my ears didn't seem to pick up a word, instead my mind drifted my ears away. Dom was helping the enemy, probable holding him to something, because that was the only way he'd leave at a time like this.
My stomach tossed and turned, causing my hands to hold my stomach as I stood up, walking away from the table and leaning on the wall as I let out a sigh. "This is interesting," Mr. Nobody said, making me turn and push myself away from the wall, "Why?"
"Because that's here," Mr. Nobody said with a disbelief smile.
Suddenly, a huge explosion tossed us all away from the table, onto the floor. My body lands on the few steps that were right behind me, while my ears began ringing. My eyes looked around, finding a giant hole in the wall that held Cipher and Dom.
"Did you all enjoy that? Next generation concussion grenade. It scrambles your senses. Don't worry, it'll wear off in an hour," Cipher said as I held my head, feeling the rush of pain that echoed throughout my head and body. My eyes look up, catching Dom's eyes as Cipher walks over to the computer, typing away at it.
As I stared into Dom's eyes, I could see the emotionless in them, but maybe it was because I was his wife or because I knew him so well that I saw the sadness and regret.
Cipher's head moved from the computer screen, "Smart move embedding God's eye into the mainframe. Irritating to make me have to come all the way down here to get it, but whatever. Let's go." Cipher pats Dom's shoulder before turning and leaving, Dom quickly following.
"Dom!" I yelled, my vison still blurry and my ears still ringing. "You're gonna turn your back on family? Just like that?" I asked.
Cipher stops and turns to look at Dom who is standing absolutely still. She smiled and walked over, grabbing Dom by the head and kissing him. I felt my heart drop, sink into my stomach, and break. When Cipher pulled away, Dom looked over at me. This time, it didn't take just my wife senses to see the look of regret and sadness in his eyes.
But even though I saw it, even though I wanted to think he'd punch this lady in the face and come back to me. He just walked away.
A few hours passed before we were able to pull ourselves together. I couldn't move from the ground though, my feet just couldn't stand. And Hobbs noticed. "You okay?" He asked, sitting down next to me.
My eyes starred at the floor as I spoke, "That wasn't him. I don't know what she's got on him. But that wasn't Dom." Hobbs didn't respond, as if he didn't believe me but also didn't want to hurt me any further.
I need to talk to someone, let someone know what was going on in my mind and body before something bad actually happened. "I found out I was pregnant, on our Honeymoon," I said, noticing Hobbs look at me from the corner of my eye. "I told Dom, and he was so excited. Then the next day, he comes back, and he's not himself. This Bitch did something to him, threatened him with something." I turned and looked at Hobbs, "Because there is no way that Dom would leave me right now."
I'm so sorry it took me so long to update. I was going through some things and then my health wasn't the best but since it's a new year, I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things.
The next chapter will be in Dom's POV, don't forget to comment!
