Lisa's POV

Kim Jisoo. The girl who made me feel something inside without a warning. The girl I've been watching over since she first came here in this very spot in front of the lake. The girl who attracted something in me. You'd think that becoming a vampire, you're emotionless but no. I have feelings too, like humans do.

When I first saw her here in front of the lake, I could smell the sweet scent of her blood. No, I wasn't thirsty for her. Okay, maybe I was a little but as time passes, the more she came here, the more I was intrigued by her. By then, I didn't care much about drinking her blood. Instead, I was attracted by who she was. She was just... ethereal and I found myself not able to tear my gaze away from her.

I wanted to get to know her so badly every time she came here. But I was afraid, afraid that by knowing who and what I really am, she'd run away and never come back.

Being a vampire, you don't have friends. You can't have friends. Especially humans. Being a vampire, I feel so lonely. In my entire existence, I've never met any others like me, and at times, I was certain that I was probably the only vampire to exist here.

I never knew how I became one. And I always wondered what it was like to become human. How it's like to have an actual beating heart. I clutched my shirt, the spot above my chest. I'm a living dead, with no beating heart. Sometimes, I feel like being human is a lot better than a vampire.

But when Jisoo came here and started crying for the first time, I figured, it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. I guess being human, they have flaws too. I always thought being human, you'd lead a fun and a good life but it didn't seem like so.

Most of the times at night, I'd roam around the city, wearing a face mask as I wanted to block out the smell of all kinds of humans' blood as I didn't want to lose control of my instincts even though wearing a face mask wouldn't help considering I have sharp senses.

I'd take a stroll around the city which was always bustling with life. To observe how humans live their lives. And I envy them, because they get to consume actual delicacies while I, only have to drink blood.

I envy them, the children, because they have a family and I don't. They have friends, I don't. So when Jisoo said she'd be my first friend, I was more than elated.

In the morning, I'd wear clothes that covered my entire body, not showing a bit of skin. I'm 'allergic' to the sun and I'm not fond of sunny places so I preferred the night where it's silent and cold. As a vampire, I don't sleep but I like to close my eyes and lie down on the grass field here in front of the lake, taking in the peaceful atmosphere.

I always wonder, was I a human before I'm a vampire? That question would remain unanswered forever. It sucks really, when you're a vampire, you can't die easily. I find it funny because humans are afraid of dying and they'd wish they could live forever but then there's me, who wants to take her own life away. I was just so lonely in this world; I had cried my eyes out when I couldn't take it. I hated myself and I started questioning myself.

What's the point of my existence? Another question that would probably remain unanswered.

After that night, I hope Jisoo's okay.

I'm sitting on top of a tree branch, admiring the sun that is setting over the horizon. Jisoo, just the thought of her made me smile. She's the only reason I'm glad I'm 'alive'.

My ears perked up immediately when I heard the faint sound of footsteps approaching closer to the lake. Instantly, I shot up from my spot and jumped down the tree, landing perfectly.

Jisoo.

I felt my adrenaline pumping, she came. She didn't utter a single word though. She bit her tongue and I notice her throat started to tighten. She opened her mouth to let in a small breath as tears begin to well in her eyes.

And when she couldn't hold them back, one small crystal bead escaped from her right eye, sliding down her cheek and rolling off her chin. Then another. And another until her eyes flooded with them, coming like a rainfall. Sniffing every ten seconds, they fall and fall and she let them.

Jisoo went up to me and wrapped her arms around my neck. I frowned when she tightened her grip on me, burying her face into the fabric of my shoulder as she sobbed freely. It hurt. It hurt to see her in such vulnerable state. She's so fragile. I want to protect her.

I snaked my arms around her petite waist and pulled her closer. I hushed her, wanting her to stop crying. I wish I could take all her pain away.

When her sobbing subsided, I pull away from the hug and cup my hands on her tear-stained cheeks, wiping them with my thumb. I felt her leaning into my touch.

"You cried again." My voice came out like a whisper.

I didn't like seeing her cry. It wasn't a pleasant sight. She let out a mirthless smile and I prompted her to sit down.

And from there, I began listening intently to her as she spilled about how her day had been. As she did so, my fists were clenched when she mentioned she was bullied again. And how her mother had beaten her up in the midst of their heated argument.

My jaw tightened, how dare they hurt someone so fragile? It wasn't right. I knew I had to at least do something. I didn't want her to suffer like this for long. She doesn't deserve this.

Jisoo's POV

The dark, onyx coloured clouds rolled across the sky, but no rain fell. Off in the distance, I could see small stars, twinkling and shining. Then, the clouds parted and the moon became visible. It was a full moon, so large and beautiful. A beacon for the whole world to see.

I felt at ease after crying again, after telling Lisa what had happened to me today. My eyes were still red and puffy from crying. Perhaps our eyes need to be washed by our tears once in a while, so that we can see life with a clearer view again.

I had stormed off out of my home after an intense argument with my mother. I just wanted her to stop. She just doesn't listen, ever since dad's gone, she's changed. She's not the mother I used to know and love. I caught her sleeping with a random man and that was the breaking point of my patience.

Anger boiled deep in my system, as hot as lava. It churned within, hungry for destruction, and I knew it was too much for me to handle. The pressure of the raging sea of anger forced me to say things I do not mean, or to express the thoughts I've suppressed for weeks.

And just as expected, Lisa listened intently. Her embrace had calmed me down. It just... felt so right and I felt so at home.

"Come lie down with me," Lisa gently tugged on my arm and I did what was told.

I heaved a sigh, feeling relaxed as we lay under the stars, which were like a beautiful, surreal blanket above our heads. I could hear the soft breaths of her by my side. The stars hung above us, as if strung in the air by invisible strings.

I felt her scooting closer to me, I gulped as I maintained my eye contact at the night sky. I didn't dare look away from the stars above us. I could feel her staring beside me, and I was trying my best to ignore her. What was she thinking?

---

Lisa's POV

I turned to lie on my side as I admired her side profile. I was positive that even at any angle; Jisoo would still be perfect and beautiful. I saw how she tensed up at the close proximity. I could just stare at her all day and I would never get tired.

"Has anyone told you you're beautiful?"

At this, her blush burned through her cheeks and her face was like a hot oven. She suddenly felt awkward as she attempted to hide her rosy cheeks behind her skinny fingers.

I gave her a lopsided grin, feeling proud of myself for making her blush. I chuckled at her reaction. She's just too cute, really.

"S-stop being r-ridiculous!" She stammered.

I laughed as her face turned redder than a red tomato. Soon, Jisoo started laughing too and I could see the wrinkles at the corner of her eyes and how they formed into the shape of crescents as she laughed. Her laughter was music to my ears. I never want to stop listening to it.

"Hey... you're wearing my jacket. Missed me huh?" I joked and she turned to me, smacking my arm in the process.

She rolled her eyes playfully, her mouth twitched, and I was sure she was biting back a smile. She failed though, she started smiling like a silly person and I teased her for that.

And there we were, lying down on the grass patch, laughing at each other, enjoying each other's company.

There was just something about her smile. She had the kind of smile that makes me feel happy to be alive and a little bit more human. If I had a beating heart right now, no doubt it'd be palpitating hard against my chest.

And just like that, our relations progressed as time passes. She had warmed up to me and I had warmed up to her. We grew attached to each other. I always followed her whenever she walked home from the forest just to ensure she was safe. Instead of coming here frequently, she began to come here every day after the sun sets. And every day, I would wait on top of a tree and anticipate her arrival and when she came, we'd talk comfortably and lie down to stargaze.

But for me, I like smilegazing. Jisoo had a disarming smile and to me, it was like an instant kiss. I grew to love her brown eyes, the type of brown that was like a sweet chocolate as humans would say it. I may not know how chocolate tastes like, but I was pretty sure it was sweet every time I gaze deeply into her eyes.

And she'd ask me why I was staring at her like a creep. I was being obvious, but I didn't care. I treasured every single one of her smiles, eye-smiles and her laughter. I was pretty sure every time I look at her, I basically have heart-eyes.

It's hard to look away from a natural beauty, especially when you're in love with it.

Jisoo's POV

School was weird today. I expected to be insulted like usual or pushed to the ground or anything when I stepped foot in school.

But neither happened, I was left alone and the bullies who bullied me frequently were avoiding me like a plaque. Every time they see me, they would run away. I frowned, what made them act like that?

Throughout the whole day in school, I was never disturbed. It felt so alien to me, like I wasn't used to the sudden peace I was given in school. I pondered and pondered as to why they seemed... scared of me.

I wasn't complaining though, I finally get to go through school in peace and quiet without anyone throwing insults at me. And I certainly couldn't wait to meet a certain blonde whom I'm sure anticipated my arrival in the forest.

---

Right after dinner, I got dressed up, ready to go into the forest. I was in high spirits today. I think I was too excited to meet Lisa. I went out of my room, closing the door quietly as I didn't want to wake her up. I'd get in trouble for sure.

I slowly tiptoed to the door in attempt to be stealthy, putting on my shoes hastily after. Just as I was about to twist the door knob open, I felt my hair getting pulled back.

"Where the hell do you think you're going, you little shit?!"

Fuck, I thought she was sleeping! I didn't see her in the kitchen! I clenched my jaw at the stinging pain as my hair was being roughly pulled. I tried prying off her hands but she was just too strong. No no no, this can't be happening, I have to meet Lisa.

"Don't think I didn't notice you sneaking out every god damn night!" She venomously shouted.

"Arghh... it hurts... let go of me!" I shrieked.

But her grip got tighter and I yelped in pain as tears started to form at the corner of my eyes. She threw me to the ground, the side of my head hitting hard on the linoleum floor. I groaned and clutched my head, trying to recover from the concussion.

"Dad... help me," I whispered helplessly, I've had enough of the constant beating every night.

It hurts, dad. Why did you have to leave?

She wasn't done yet. Grabbing me by the collar of my shirt, I felt a fist colliding hard into my face. I tried to hold back my tears. My lips were bleeding and it just hurts so, so much.

Mother was rigid with fury. She went ballistic after my attempt to sneak out.

Lisa...

I had to meet Lisa, I want to meet Lisa. And that meant fighting back. Mother's insane. I don't want to be trapped in this hell hole no more.

"You ungrateful little bitch, I've provided you with a fucking home and you dare sneak out every night?!"

But you didn't provide me with love that a daughter needs.

She took a belt that I was positive belonged to the man she had brought home to fuck last week and swung it at me, but I blocked my face and it came in contact with my arms instead.

I hissed at the excruciating pain on my arm. I have to get out of here. No, I'm not gonna cry in front of her. I didn't want to be weak for once. So with all my might, I pushed her hard, causing her to fall back and hit her head on the wall.

This is my chance.

While she was groaning and trying to gain back consciousness, I bolted out the door. I didn't waste my time running into the forest and the sun had just set. I can't go back 'home', I don't want to. It's been a living hell in there and she's gone out of her mind. I ran as fast as my wary legs could carry me, away from 'home', away from the torture. I wiped away the blood from my mouth as I didn't want Lisa to see it.

As I bolted through the dense forest, I stumbled over roots but was able to recover quickly and made my way to the lake. I panted for breath, bending down with my hands on my knees. Lisa was the only thing on my mind right now.

After catching my breath, I stood straight, looking around, searching for the blonde I admittedly missed.

"Lisa?" I called out, only to receive no response.

My brows drew together when I was greeted with nothing but chirping of birds and the sound of crickets. Where is she? Did Lisa go somewhere? But where could she have gone?

Abruptly, I felt long and thin arms snake around my waist from behind. My breath hitched at the sudden gesture that caught me in surprise. But I relaxed after I recognised the warmth enveloping me from behind.

"You gotta stop doing that, I might just die of heart attack." I affirmed, leaning back into her warm and at the same time, cold embrace.

Lisa giggled; her giggle was like a stone bouncing across a glossy lake, creating ripples of mirth where there had been none. Her giggle was so infectious that I found myself giggling along with her like a little girl.

She nuzzled her cheek against mine as she pulled me closer so my back was completely against her body.

"Chichoo~ I missed you!" She cooed.

I melted when she called my nickname. She gave me that nickname and it was cute coming from her mouth.

"Turn around!" She instructed, finally letting go of me.

I proceeded to turn around but she wasn't there. Of course, she was playing games with me. I felt a tap on my shoulder and I made another quick turn, faced with nothing once again. I rolled my eyes when Lisa told me to turn around again.

When I turned, I was tackled into a bear hug and I managed to prevent myself from falling back. We burst into fits of giggles, Lisa was just like a ball of sunshine, and I was the sunburn.

She released me and then she gave me a smile that just seemed so genuinely sweet with just the right touch of shyness that unexpected warmth rushed through me.

"So how was your day?" She inquired, picking up a small rock before throwing it in the lake and it skipped a few times.

I shrugged, clutching onto Lisa's jacket which she insisted on me keeping it when I felt the cold breeze ruffling my cobalt-black hair.

When Lisa hugged me earlier, I tried my best to conceal the pain. She didn't notice the bruises yet, good. I didn't want her to worry more than she already did.

"School was weirdly peaceful. I don't know what made the bullies avoid me like I'm some kind of virus. They looked like... afraid of me? Like they didn't dare to come near me even. Not that I'm complaining though. Whatever made them act that way, I'm thankful."

Lisa only hummed in response and I didn't miss the sly smile she wore on her lips. I raised an eyebrow. Why does it look like she knew something?

"Lisa? Do you know something?" I questioned.

She turned to me with her hands in her pockets, snickering.

"Well... let's just say, I gave them a warning."

My eyes widened and I grabbed her shoulders.

"What did you—"

She hushed me and tilted her head, flashing me a megawatt smile.

"Don't worry, I didn't hurt them. You know I'm not like that. I just gave them a little threat that scared them big time. At least they aren't bothering you now, are they?"

I exhaled the breath I didn't know I was holding, feeling relieved. I despise the bullies but I didn't want them to die. Lisa winked at me playfully and I gave her a slap on her shoulder.

"How are you... at home?" She asked abruptly in a hesitant voice.

The corners of my mouth curled down, I looked away to hide the bruise at the corner of my lips and brows knitted together. I rubbed my arm where the marks were covered by the sleeves of the jacket I wore. I wanted to say that I was okay but Lisa saw through me and took my arm, rolling up the sleeves.

Sha gasped and I closed my eyes, feeling so ashamed and embarrassed. She saw the fresh marks on my arm and her eyes showed compassion and worry. She grabbed my jaw gently and turned my head to face her, the bruise visible to her now. I couldn't look at her.

"It's getting worse, at this rate you might end up in the hospital or worse, killed. Jisoo, you know I can't bear seeing you like this."

She rubbed the marks on my arm gently, as if wanting the pain to go away. I didn't respond, I couldn't. I'm used to this lifestyle but, I couldn't bear with it anymore. At times, every ounce of me wished that I had the nerve to swing my body off the top of a building. To walk in the depths of the ocean and stay down under.

To take a gun and place the cool metal down my throat, pulling the trigger, shooting away the pain. But I couldn't, I was a weakling. I wasn't daring enough.

Ever since Lisa came into my life, all those thoughts were washed away. She brought me the happiness I've been seeking, craving. She changed my perspective, that I actually have a reason to live.

She slowly pulled me closer to her, wrapping her arms around me. Her embrace was warm-and-cold and her thin yet strong arms seemed very protective when wrapped around my fragile body. The world around me melted away as I squeezed her back, not wanting the moment to end.

I buried my face in the crook of her neck, biting my tongue, trying to hold the tears that threatened to leave my eyes. As much as I tried to hold it in, the pain came out like an uproar from my throat in the form of a silent scream. The beads of water started falling down one after another, without a sign of stopping. Muffled sobs wracked against my chest. The world turned into a blur, and so did all the sounds.

The only sounds were my melancholy cries. I just wanted to run away, I want the pain to stop. She pulled away from me and let out a sad smile.

"You've been crying a whole lot. I hate it when I see you cry," She remarked, grazing her thumb against the bruise at the corner of my lips.

With one hand under my chin, Lisa angled her face towards me and kissed away the tears. I closed my eyes as she did so, savouring the moment.

Just a simple gesture made me feel so weak in the knees. I felt the tingly and fuzzy feelings in the pit of my stomach. I sighed in content when she moved her hand on my cheek and stroked it with her thumb tenderly, and I leaned into the touch.

Lisa makes me feel things I've never felt before. When she smiles, you can't help but smile along too, even if it was just on the inside. To be in her company was to feel that you too were someone, that you had been warmed in summer rays regardless of the season.

I gazed deeply into her alluring, blue eyes. But to say that her eyes were blue was like saying that the sun was yellow. Sufficient, but not accurate to capture the burning.

"Take me with you."

My words made her dumbstruck. She frowned, trying to figure out what I was trying to say.

"What do you mean—"

"Turn me into a vampire."

At that, she was taken aback and her jaw hung agape with her eyes gleaming wide, not believing what I had just blurted out. Lisa shook her head, seeming worried about at my request. She held my arm and looked at me seriously.

"Jisoo, I don't think that's a good decision. I know you've been through rough times but let me tell you, being a vampire is no different. You'll experience changes and your taste buds would be different. You won't be hungry for food, you'll be thirsty for blood." Her eyebrows furrowed after elaborating out so much information.

I was aware. I was aware of what being a vampire was like. I've thought through about it everyday. I smiled softly and held her pale, cold cheek, caressing them with my thumb.

"I know I'll be fine as long as I'm with you..." I muttered, eyeing her lips.

She stared at my chocolate brown orbs, hesitant and unsure.

"Are you sure about this Jisoo? You can't go back once you turn." She pointed out.

I nodded in assurance, I've made up my mind. I know Lisa was going to be there to guide me.

"I hope you know what you're doing..."

She heaved a sigh and rubbed my neck, eyeing me.

I looked at her briefly before tilting my head, exposing my neck to her completely. I could feel her staring at it.

I had to bite back a gasp as I felt her tongue flicked against my neck as she moistened the skin to prepare me for what was about to come. Her eyes met mine, asking me a silent question. I gave a tiny nod of assent, as I was unable to do any more form her dedicated ministrations.

I felt her withdraw, and I let out a quiet moan. Her razor teeth sliced through my wet skin without resistance, penetrating deep into the flesh of my neck as they cut through the thin blood vessel and permitted them to spill their precious liquid inside me.

I gritted my teeth as pain shot through me like lightning. My grip on her shoulders tightened. It was painful, but I'm not regretting anything.

Finally she retracted back and the pain died down. Lisa planted a light kiss at the spot where she bit my neck; the bite mark was fresh and visible. Warmth radiated from the spot where her lips touched my neck, slowly spreading through the rest of me.

I looked up at Lisa whose eyes turned into a deep shade of red instead of her normal blue ones.

"Wow, your blood tastes really sweet. Sorry, in order to turn you I had to drink your blood. And you need to drink some of mine in return."

She took a small, empty capsule from her belt and didn't hesitate to bite off—literally bite off the skin on her wrist and let her blood drip into the capsule, filling most of it.

Her wrist immediately healed within seconds, like magic. She offered the capsule filled with her blood to me and I did feel hesitant but I had made up my mind already so I took it and swallowed it in one, quick gulp.

Strange, I thought a vampire's blood would taste bitter and irony but Lisa's blood tastes... un-expectantly sweet with a hint of bitterness in there.

Suddenly, I felt something inside me changing. I felt different and inhuman. I looked down at my pair of hands. They were pale, extremely pale and I felt cold and lifeless. The marks were gone too. My lips didn't hurt anymore.

And I couldn't hear my heart beating. I could suddenly hear and see everything in the distance more clearly, my senses have sharpened and I suddenly felt thirsty.

I didn't think I was going to turn this quick.

"My eyes are red, aren't they?" She pointed at them and I nodded in confirmation.

"I'll just drink some animal blood, and I'll be fine. It'll turn back to blue."

I watched as she took another small capsule filled with animal blood that hung on her belt, popping open the cap and swallowed it in a single gulp. When she opened her eyes again, it reverted back to its original sea blue colour.

The transition was amazing. So drinking human blood turns our eyes red? Looks like I'll be going for animal blood too. I don't think I want red as my eye colour, it's too obvious and I didn't want to look like a banshee or something. Besides, I don't think I can ever kill a human since I was one.

Lisa offered me three small capsules of animal blood with a lopsided smile. I took it gladly and wolfed down all three without hesitation.

I sighed in relief, my throat wasn't parched anymore and that quenched my thirst, much to my delight.

"You know, you're kinda sexy as a vampire." Lisa smirked, wriggling her eyebrows.

"Pervert," I rolled my eyes and pushed her playfully and this time, she flinched from her spot.

Not like those other times where I had pushed her and she didn't move an inch.

"Woah, sexy and strong. I like." She teased as she came closer to me again.

I laughed as she held my waist and when our eyes met, I got lost gazing deeply into her azure eyes. I'm a vampire now. I can't go back.

"Looks like I'm gonna have to teach you a lot of things about becoming a vampire." She whispered in an alluring voice which had me enticed.

Her eyes flickered back and forth between my eyes and lips. The corner of my lips lifted up. Slowly, we leaned closer, attracted like forces of magnets. Her hand reached under my hair below my ear, my lips parted and our breaths mingled. My heart—if it was even possible, fluttered as she draws me to her calamine-pink cold lips.

When our lips finally met, something like magic ignited, and the kiss deepened. I wrapped my arms around her neck to pull her closer and her arms were wrapped around my waist. My brain lit on fire and the warmth spread throughout my entire body. My lips were firm against hers, but the kiss remained soft, gentle and slow. We held it for a few seconds, before our lips began to move in perfect sync, slowly, cautiously.

We pulled away, even though vampires don't get breathless, I panted. Her lips were still close to mine, the sensation lingering on my lips.

"You have no idea how much I've been wanting to do that." She whispered, chuckling and I threw my head back as I laughed.

"You do know you're immortal now, right? Which means I get to stay with you for eternity." She stated truthfully, placing her forehead against mine as she stared deep into my eyes.

I nodded shyly and as soon as she smiled at me, my fear whisked away like a bunch of fruit-flies caught in a heavy gust of wind. Excitement rushed through my veins. Happiness flared in her eyes and for the first time in a while, it began to in mine too. Even if the world around us started collapsing, my cold, unbeating heart would not get crushed as long as I'm with her.
