Chapter 14: Things Get Heated
I'm planning on ending this crack-type fic soon.
Or not. You never know. It might never end lmao
Also, I do quite like feedback. I swear I won't bite.
Much ;) -//slapped//

Woah. Hold on.
Kaito nearly fell off of his fancy platform out of shock. There was no way.
He was wrong, since the gem that plagues his life now rested in the palm of his hand, so very fragile. He could end this right here. And then the "paid protection" got on the move.
Not because of Kaito Kid stealing the jewel, but for the figure pointing a badly disguised gun up at him. When the gun was spotted by accident, someone screeched, and a sudden mass of onlookers raced for the exit. This, in turn, caused the gunman to be pushed over. He still fired, though. That didn't end well for the chandelier above Kaito.
How convenient. There's a chandelier above him.
The aforementioned chandelier fell where Kaito was about four seconds ago. He had jumped from the little perch the instant he heard the "snap" of the chandelier's support wiring breaking, onto one of the knocked out task force member's head, onto another head not quite as knocked out, and onto a cleared out area of the floor. He would have congratulated himself on how impressive that move was, if he hadn't just been shot at.
The gunman, who had just gotten another clear shot at the thief, fired again, the bullet whizzing through Kid's hat. The new gaping hole in Kaito's hat was a bit too close to his head for comfort. The frantic (although he'd never really show it) thief decided a tactical retreat was in order. So, wasting not even a milisecond, he pocketed the jewel and nyoomed out of there.
Yes, nyoomed.
The shooter also followed after him, after shoving through the frightened crowd, some Kid-taskforce officers, some unknowing paid protection, and Hakuba. Kaito laughed at that. He shouldn't of, but he still did.
Conan, who had been dodging the crowd out of fear of being trampled, started heading to where the note said Kid would be. This would definitely be one of those times when he hated being short. That shoe right there would have stepped on him if he hadn't rolled to the left just now.
Kaito, after a furious run/jog from the gunman, burst through the doors to the roof. He didn't stop there, but continued until he could duck and roll behind one of those weird fan block things that like to gather on roofs. The gunman ran through the previous door soon after.
Cone, being the supernaturally fast not-child-but-almost-child he was, had already gotten to the roof and was hiding behind another one of those fan block things. This made the not-child good for a shot at the gunman with his dart watch-amijig.
This situation gave Kaito the once-in-a-lifetime chance to watch a scary man, with a sniper riffle strapped to his back a pistol in hand, dance like some drunk guy. Those weird music videos accompanying pop songs had nothing on him.
Then, after this beautiful spectacle, the man plopped right on the ground with a satisfying "Thud!". Conan poked him with his foot a bit to make sure he was out cold.
He was.
"That's it?" Kaito whispered.
Yes, that's it. I'm not a cruel writer who really wants to cause her characters to suffer.
"Somehow I doubt that. I've seen your plans for us."
Death and angst aren't really my thing, Shini-
"No."
"Who are you talking to?" Conan asked, seeing as how it looked like Kaito Kid was whispering to himself.
The thief blinked at Cone, then replied with a smooth; "Why, Tantei-kun. You must be delirious. I wasn't talking to anybody. I wasn't talking at all!"
Sure.
Kaito cast a quick glare at the author as the approaching sounds of the Kid Taskforce, Paid protection, and any left behind detectives made themselves apparent. Mostly by rapid foot stompings and the combined yelling of the "lovebirds."
The lovebirds are Heiji and Hakuba, in case that wasn't too clear.
