Chapter 11
I had finally reached the gym after the relaxing walk. I went to the change rooms and got dressed. Putting on my sports bra and shorts.
I walked out and first went to the office, when I went inside I saw Darron sitting there already going through the paperwork.
"Guess you beat me too it?" I asked which made his head snap up in my direction. "I guess so baby. How's my Sugar doing?" I chuckled and went to go sit on the couch. "I'm fine and you?" He shrugged but didn't say a word. I know better than to pester Darron for answers, so most of the time I will back off.
"So when does 'Killer' training begin?" I smirked at him, to which he did the same. "Right now."
The whole afternoon was spent training. Darron was not kiding when he said it's intense, he first had me doing 200 push ups, then 150 sit ups, then 200 chin ups and finally 30 minutes of planking.
"And that's only the warm ups." He said with a sly smirk.
The whole training was spent on exercise. He said he needed me in tip top shape, for the actual training.
After the painful training I finally reached my house, I had asked Darron to drop me off, considering on how much pain I was in. "Thanks for the lift." He smiled at him while attempting to climb out of the car smoothly.
"No problem baby." He smirked at me, I was about to close the car door but then I spoke again, "Darron I just have to let you know..." I trailed off.
"Yes Tori?" He stretched the 'S' of the yes. "I hate you." I smiled at him and playfully glared. "Love you too Sugar." He winked then drove off.
I walked up to my house and sighed when I smelt my moms cooking. "Hey mom." I said when I walked into the kitchen. Though when I walked in I didn't expect to see her with a glass of wine, starring at a picture of me and my brother, while bawling her eyes out.
"Oh mom... It'll be okay, everythings going to be okay." I pulled her into my embrace and just held her while she cried. I knew she needed to do this, to let it all out.
I don't blame her, he was her first child and that's something I could never replace. I know she loved us both equally and im glad she never resented me, like I've heard about other parents who did that to their children.
"Sssh it's okay, he's here with us." She pulled back a little and I looked into her red, puffy eyes. My heart broke at seeing my beautiful, always happy mother like this.
"I miss him so much Tori!" She wailed and hugged me tighter. She dug her nails into my arms but I didn't say a single thing about it. "Mom you know he's here with us and he always will be, in here." I patted her's and my heart to prove my point.
"Thank you sweety, I don't know what I'd do without you." She tried to take a sip of her wine again but I quickly took it out of her grasps. "Mom you know you shouldn't be drinking this." She nodded her head and kept quiet.
"Have you taken your medication?"
"I ran out of it. Tori please don't go buy more!" I went up to my room to grab my wallet. When I reached my room, she grabbed my hand. "Please Tori you can't be paying for me, I have to pay for you!" She was crying even harder now and I was close to doing the same.
"Mom you need the medication. I don't care if you don't want me to buy you the medicine but I will do anything to help you. You've always been there for me, now it's my turn." I took my hand back gently and walked up to my desk. I looked in my wallet to see that I had just enough for the things I'll need.
"I'll be back soon mom, get some rest okay? I'll finish up the dinner then I have to head to work." She nodded but I knew she wanted to still protest. I walked down the stairs, grabbed my keys and made my way towards the car. The pharmacy was to far away to walk so I had no choice but to use my car.
I unlocked the car and got in. I inserted the key and tried to turn on the ignition, but the rust bucket that is my car died on me. "Come on! Not now please!" I hit the steering wheel repeatedly and groaned.
I got out of the car and started to walk, should have grabbed a jacket. "Tori!" I turned around to see Caleb had just pulled up though I didn't see the other two.
"Hey Caleb, where's the other two?" He quickly walked over to me. "There at a fight im just here to pick up somethings." I nodded and smiled at him while rubbing my arms on my shoulders.
"Shit your cold here," he took his jacket off and drapped it over me, I said a quick thank you, "So what are you doing out here walking?"
Should I ask him to help me get to the pharmacy? Wouldn't that be asking to much of him, he has to get to a fight and then- "Tori are you there?" He asked while waving his hand infront of my face.
I quickly shook my head and blushed. "Sorry, um I was actually going to the pharmacy." His eyes widened, "Isn't that far from here, and your walking?"
"Yeah but my car died so-" I was cut off when he quickly spoke, "Let me give you a lift!" I was taken back not by his offer but how forward he was.
"Don't you have go get back to the fight and do other stuff then rather driving me around?" I said while chuckling. He raised a brow but still smirked.
"Come on Tori lets go!" He cheered and run up to his car. I walked right behind him, he opened the door for me and I said a quick thanks.
He slid into the car after me and drove off towards the pharmacy. "So if you don't mind me by asking why you going to the pharmacy?"
"It's for my mom." And thats where I left it, he didn't pester for more answers and for that im grateful.
We eventually pulled up to the pharmacy and we got out of the car. I quickly walked off to get the medication while Caleb went to look at something that had caught his eye.
"Afternoon ma'am how can I help you?" A guy round about my age maybe a bit older asked from behind the counter. He was cute but that was it. He wasn't really my type, not like he's interested.
"Hi im here to pick up refills for Danielle Satten." I handed him the papers I needed to get the medication and quickly went to retrieve the medicine.
When he came back and handed me the medicine he went onto the computer to fill in the some paperwork that I had to sign. He handed me the paper and while I was filling it in he started to make converstaion.
"So uh what's your name?" I looked up at him and wondered why he would ask this question but I still replied. "Tori and you?"
"I'm Charlie. Its nice to meet you Tori." He cleared his throat and scratched the back of his neck. "So um Tori can-can I get-" He was cut off by Caleb putting his arms around my waist. I stiffened at the close proximity but quickly relaxed.
"Hey baby I think we should get going soon." I raised my brow at him but didn't question his actions...yet.
"Bye Charlie it was nice meeting you!" I shouted out to him while Caleb was dragging me away from him. "Bye Tori!" He yelled back.
When we got back into the car it was silent for a while. "Okay spill what was that all about back there?" He sighed and ran a hand through his thick black hair.
"The guy was flirting with you so I pulled you out of there." I burst out laughing surprising him, making him swerve the car. "Fucking hell Tori don't do that!" Though I couldn't stop laughing I tried to say sorry.
"Why are you laughing?" He asked quizzically. "You-you s-said the guy was-s f-flirting with m-me!" I said in between laughs.
"And what's so funny about that?" I looked over him expecting to see a smirk on his face but he looked utterly confused. "No one would ever flirt with me Caleb. I mean look at me im not pretty or anything like that." I shook my head at him and rested my head on the car window.
He didn't reply but he was clutching the steering wheel tightly that his knuckles were turning white.
I decided to not pester him about it knowing its none of my business but I really did want to ask. We finally reached our homes and I got out of the car quickly.
Caleb walked around the car towards me. I turned around to quickly and crashed into him, making the medicine drop to the floor.
All the little bottles fell out of the brown paper bag and I quickly crouched down to retrieve them all. Unfortunately Caleb grabbed a few and saw what their for.
"Tori does your mom have Cancer?" He had a pained expression on his face but I could only nod. I tried to speak but only a sob came out of my throat.
Thats when the waterworks started, he pulled me onto his lap and held me while I cried. He whispered soothing words to comfort me but I knew nothing would help.
After about 20 minutes of me crying like a baby I finally got up off of his lap and he stood up as well. "I'm sorry." I whispered while avoiding eye contact. "Don't be Tori. It's all going to be okay, okay?" I nodded and took the rest of the pills and put them back into the bag.
"So what are you doing for the rest of the night?" He asked me while sticking his hands in his pockets. "I have to go to work." His eye brows shot up in surprise.
"You have a job? At this time of the night?" I nodded not really caring that I work late.
"What do you do?" He asked, I sighed and scratched the back of my head. Something I sometimes do when im nervous.
"I work at a diner." I didn't want to tell him anymore because I don't like the job but its the only thing I could get that can help with some of the finances.
"Um I have to go thank you again Caleb. Your an amazing friend." He smiled at me and gave me hug to which I returned. I liked how he held me I felt safe and comfortable, something I haven't felt in a long time.
"See you later Tori." I then went inside to give mom her medication.
"Mom im back!" I didn't hear anything so I went to check on her. I walked into her room and saw she was passed out on her bed.
I quickly made my way downstairs and finished up the dinner mom had started. Once it was done I had a quick piece of it then left for a job that I hated with all my life.
