"Snow."
I feel a light jerk on my arm. With much effort, I open my eyes and see Mani smiling at me.
"Good morning Mani." I stretch out my arms and sit up on the couch. I don't find Madison beside me, he was always an early riser.
"Good morning sweety. It's quite late in the morning so I thought of waking you up. You'll get hungry." She smiles and I nod.
Planting a kiss on my head, Mani walks away and I stand in front of the window. I see Madison doing something in the garden wearing rubber gloves. I decide to join him but give up the plan when I see him entering into the house. He blows me a kiss and I catch it dramatically.
I walk into the room I've been told to stay and frown discovering I still don't have any clothes with me. Splashing some cold water against my sleepy face, I go downstairs and find Mani and Madison sitting on the counter. I grab a stool and sit beside Madison. Mani pours me a mug of coffee and I fill a plate with breakfast for me.
"I need to go for shopping. I need to buy some clothes for me." I tell taking a bite of my pancake.
"Maybe you two can go out and spend some time together. Madison has no work to do today I think." Mani says more like a question looking at Madison.
"Mum! I had to go somewhere.... Okay, lemme give it up." Madison replies, covering a frown by chuckling.
"Here are the spoons Snow! From when did you start to use eating with your hands!" Madison gives me a set of spoons, laughing sarcastically.
I take the spoons from him and notice the sudden change of my behavior. I never used to eat without using spoons and now I'm doing it. Has Harry changed a part of me?
No, he can't change anything in me, anything.
After finishing the breakfast, I get myself ready to go for a shopping with Madison.
"Ready?" Madison asks when I cross the fence to reach his car.
"Yeah." I smile.
After a twenty minutes drive we finally reach the shopping mall.
"They have some good collection of white dresses here." Madison leads me to a shop knowing exactly what color I usually look for.
Mouthing him thanks, we both enter into the shop. I start to find some comfy outfits for myself and a pair of skirts for Mani.
"Don't you think this one is too short and will look odd on you?" Madison comments when I take a crop top in my hand.
"But this one matches with my jeans, look!" I tell pointing him to the skinny black jeans I've planned to buy.
"Snow!" he laughs looking up. "You're surprising me really. You've changed. I think this one is good for you." Madison points towards a white full sleeve button up shirt and a black high waist skirt which will come down my knees.
"Yes, I used to wear this kind of lady like perfect outfits before but now I don't want to. These are more comfortable, I've discovered recently." I smile looking at Madison and he smiles.
"Okay but don't buy those ripped jeans please. They look miserable." Madison tells sarcastically and I decide not to answer him.
After buying most of the things I need for myself, we finally enter into a Mexican restaurant to have lunch.
"Will the food be good here? I don't usually take meals outside if it's not KFC!" Madison tells taking a mouthful of his chicken salad.
"Well you're already eating and don't knock it up until you try something. Trying something new is good you know?" I tell pressing the napkin beside my lips.
I was not feeling the need of having lunch but Madison forced me literally. I have lost my appetite for food and the need of enjoyment after what I've been through.
During the lunch, I tell Madison about everything I've faced with. My marriage, me running away; everything but Harry. He tries his best to console me after hearing everything.
"Huh?" Madison's hand on mine snaps me out of my thoughts. "Oh, yeah the food is good here." I smile but my answer doesn't satisfy Madison anyway.
"Snow, I've told about hundred of things at least after mentioning about the food and it's proved that you were not listening to me." He squeezes my hand lightly and I look down, placing my forks on the sides of my plate. "Trust me, everything will be fine."
"I feel so shattered Madison, I can't even tell you how I feel right now! It hurts....I thought Michael would be the last person in my life who'll I ever miss but anyhow, I believed Michael will return to me one day as he promised. But now I have lost everyone who belonged to my life. My dad, my friends and teachers, Harry......" I cut myself off as I realize I shouldn't have told the last name in front of Madison right now.
"Harry?" Madison asks widening his eyes.
What I'd tell Madison about Harry? That he's a random boy whom I've kissed more than twice? That he's a boy with whom I've spent my life's first love making night while I was in my full sense?
Why I'm reminded of him every single moment when he's the one who should be forgotten?
Grow up! It was just a one night stand; we just had a good time!
His words from the previous day make me to stab the fork on the table.
"Snow!" Madison leans forward and jerks me by my wrist lightly and I look at him. "It's okay if you don't wanna tell me." He tells raising his eyebrows. I can easily understand the disappointment behind his investigative eyes.
"Harry...well he's the boy who saved me from the goons the night I ran out from my house. He drove me all the way to your house. He has taught me those things I've never learnt about," a smile tugs in my lips without letting me know, "taught me how to enjoy life, how to take everything in life simply. He..............." I look at Madison nervously as I cut myself from saying that I've spent the best night of my life with Harry, the worst, I correct my subconscious.
"He drove you all the way here? He must be a decent boy then. You should've told him to meet me so that I could thank him." Madison blinks and I smile, not knowing what else to do.
Decent boy? Well I consider the fact he has taken care of me well but he did everything for spending a good time with me as per his last speech.
"He....he was in a hurry. Harry was in a hurry, yeah." I feel hurt for hiding about Harry from Madison but I don't have the strength to go through the pain once more and maybe I am not sure about telling him more about Harry.
"Did you guys like.......knew each other before?" Madison asks taking a sip of his cola.
"No, not at all." I try to keep my voice normal.
"I don't want to pressure but if you feel fine you can always share anything with me. I'll not judge you. I'm saying this to you because I have seen sparkles and fire, both in your eyes while talking about that boy." Madison surprises me by his way of talking, like he's mocking me or something.
"Madison! We can talk about this later okey?" I look at him with annoying eyes and he nods.
After finishing the meal with silence, we leave the restaurant and buy the rest of the things from the list. I buy some extra baking trays and cones as I decide I'll be learning to bake from Mani.
Mani runs a small bakery of her own, near her house and she has agreed on the issue of me working there; not only for earning money but also for keeping my mind busy, away from my hovering past.
"I'll be in the kitchen in minutes." I tell Mani as we reach home and I go upstairs, in the room I've been staying. I quickly tie my hair into a low ponytail and change into a pair of shorts and t-shirt from the new ones I've bought today.
"My Styles?" I whisper looking at the words printed on my T-shirt. Really bitch? How I didn't notice what's written on the T-shirt before buying it?
Sighing, I go downstairs in the kitchen and find Mani and Madison there.
"Maybe we all can go for a picnic or for something relaxing like that. Right Snow?" Mani asks looking at me and Madison.
"Picnic? Mum! Not again! This is so old school!" Madison frowns sitting on the couch.
"Why? It'll be fun! We can go to a picnic and stay in the woods! It's really fun to stay at the jungle at night, sitting beside fire and climbing on a tree and........." I say excitedly. Madison and Mani looks at me being surprised, unable to understand what I've said.
"I mean we can go to a place out of the locality and spend some good time, woods was just an example." I correct myself and smile. "Maybe a bad example." I smile gritting my teeth looking at Madison.
The small unwanted picnic I've been in with Harry, was really one of the best hangouts I've ever been in. The way we've spent time, swimming with him in the dirty pond, eating papaya sitting on a tree branch, laying on the dirty ground and staring at the night sky laying beside the fire – how can I forget all of this?
"We can go to a resort and enjoy some time by ourselves. Who will go to the woods and do toddler things and sweat!" Madison rolls his eyes and I keep standing there with a disappointed smile.
"It's not the way you're thinking." I half smile tiredly looking at Madison.
"Okay then, let's go to a yacht or resort but I really need some fresh air." Mani sighs.
"Okey, I'll manage everything. Are you happy Snow?" Madison asks.
"Yeah." I forcefully smile. "I need to go to the washroom. Excuse me guys."
Smiling, I walk upstairs and sit on the edge of the bed. I tug my hair up and rest my chin on my knees.
Isn't this the life I wanted to live in? Then why I'm always reminded about the 48 hours with Harry? Why I'm reminded about the green eyed boy whenever I'm close to Madison? Why I'm reminded about him even if I don't want to?
"Snow it's time for dinner." I hear Mani's voice from downstairs.
Wiping away the unwanted tears which have slid down my cheeks without my knowledge, I go downstairs and try to present myself as the Snow everyone expects. I tie my hair into a bun because Madison loves my hair tied.
You know who you are but you have no idea about who you can be.
I smile looking down and pull out the hair band around my bun, let my hair fall down on my back. I ignore Madison's furrowed up eyebrows while sitting beside him in the dining hall.
"You look prettier with your hair tied." Madison smirks weakly.
"But I feel pretty good when my long hair caresses my back." I chuckle and he nods.
You were right Harry, absolutely right. I really had no idea about myself, about what I want before you taught me. I only knew who they need me to be.
But I think I've become your nerdiest student now Harry.
Maybe you were bad to me but your bad worked good on me.
