Chapter One (part 2)

A/N: I'm sorry but this chapter does involve a bit to do with cutting. Please don't hate me for it.

Yami: Here is the rest of chapter one that Danii so lovingly didn't write earlier like I asked her to.

Me: Gimme a break, I've been busy...

Seto: Doing?

Yami: Nothing.

Me:Well I will write the rest of it now.

Yugi: Shouldn't you be doing English Lit?

Me: Shhhhhhh...no one needs to know that.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I carry on walking with Joey matching his pace, step for step. All I can do is stare at my feet and wish the ground would swallow me whole. AH! What have I done! I've thrown away everything I loved! Or did I? Did I really ever love Seto or was I using him to try and forget about Yugi? Well, whatever it was, it didn't work. I breathe out heavily, unaware that I was holding my breath in the first place.

"What's wrong?" Joey asks, how that guy keeps his calm with me sometimes I don't know and I probably never will.

"Ah, nothing" I say, crossing my right foot over my left and put my left hand on the back of my head.

Joey then does something totally unexpected and the nest thing I register is my head hitting the wall of lockers as he has my collar bunched up in his hands.

"Don't...steal...my...thing" he says slowly, making sure I hear every word and I can hear the hate in his voice and see the flames in his eyes.

I sort my collar out and let my feet feel the floor again as I watch him walk away. Geez, what's his problem? I never thought something so insignificant could cause such harm. There's no-one in the corridor now, I suppose I can afford to miss first class, it's not like I love P.E or anything. I continue to proceed down the corridor, left hand outstretched behind me, feeling every bump in the row of lockers as I stare down as my shoes and look at the delicate splash of each tear that drops to the floor for the light to reflect off, however when I cast my eyes to the sky I am met with the dreary downpour of rain. It acts as I feel, splashing over people for no reason and just there to ruin everyone's day.

I stand in front of my locker, am I really ready to look at the memories inside? I twist the key in the lock and stare at the pictures that decorate the back of the door. Pictures. Memories. Precious times. I stare at one of me, Seto and his little brother, Mokuba all pulling funny faces for the camera. There are other pictures of us all bowling and diving and similar things. I gently caress the faces of all of us in different pictures, and then proceed to rip them off and throw them on the floor. All this happiness. It's not meant for ME! I scream at myself. The only thing that remains are the ripped corners of those precious memories.

I turn around and bang my fist on the lockers as I sink to the floor. I drag my knees in and place my head on my knees, locking my arms just below the knees while I let the tears fall freely, nothing matters anymore. I lift my head up, staring at the rain, trying to listen. I look at my wrists and pull out a short pocket knife. I press the blade down on my arm, wincing at the imaginary pain the beads of blood cause. I've been doing this for so long that I've forgotten what pain actually is, I make two crosses and then watch the rain pour down the window. I promised Seto I'd stop this and for the past 4 months, I have but now I have no reason. My life feels like nothing anymore.

-------------------------------------

I walk down the corridor knowing I'm late for class but I can't help it, I'll have to come up with a lie. It's not like I can say that my big bro Seto had been crying most of the morning. I pick up my pace as I jog down the corridor trying to juggle different school books. I turn the corner and slip over my shoelace. Everything seems to go in slow motion as I watch some of my books fall out of the emergency exit and begin to be destroyed by the rain. Listen to the rain, it sounds calming. I slide across the floor to try and salvage the still readable parts of my books. After I pick up 2 and drop the other destroyed ones in the bin just in front of the door I shake my hair back into the small blue spikes and look down the corridor to see Yugi? Or is it Yami? Sitting with his head in his hands.

I wander over. Craning my neck to see if I can see which one of them it is. I then see the crimson eyes and looking up see my brother watching him from the opposite end of the corridor although I don't think Yami has noticed him yet.

"Hey, dude are-" I break off mid sentance to see the blood collecting on his shirt "-OH MY GOSH! ARE YOU OK?!" I scream.

"Yeh, I'm fine" he says, looking at me, eyes vacant, his thoughts clearly somewhere else.

I quickly grab the tissue paper I keep in my pocket and press it to his forearm hoping to slow down the flow of blood as even though he is pale, he looks paler than usual.

"H-h-ey, you d-d-don't have t-to d-do tha-a-t" he stutters and I know he's not ok so I just stare and raise my eyebrows at him.

"It's ok, I'd do anything for someone who can make my big bro as happy as you do" I reply, beaming at him to show I mean it. "But, but that's the problem, Mokuba" he says, his voice barley a whisper, so I press the paper harder on his arm, squeezing out more of the blood.

"Wait, what?!" I ask, realising what he just said.

We sat there for a moment, just staring at each other, listening the the rain outside.

"What do you mean not any more?" I say, using the floating quotation marks.

"Well...differences sort of made us...drift apart" he says, pausing to find the right words. There's something he's not telling me, and I'm determined to find out what.

"What kind of...differences?" I quiz, hoping for a better answer.

"Well, it's just, ermm-" he pauses, staring at the celing, probably hoping for someone to give him the answer "-we just drifted apart, that's all" he finished, using a small smile, hoping that his answer is good enough. Well guess what? It's not.

"Come on, you can tell little ol' me" I say, battering my eyelashes and using the 'puppy dog' eyes.

He smiles and streches his arms out in front toward me. "Come here and I'll tell you" he says.

I crawl onto his lap and rest my head on his shoulder, I wish Seto would be this close to me. He wraps one arm around me and lets the cut one fall to the floor. I feel his chest expand as he takes a breathe, and then he begins his tale.

"Well, basically Seto accused me of...looking at someone else. It was the harshest thing to be told and it hurt a lot. It happened this morning in the car park." He finshes, his voice dropping a tad toward the end.

"Really? Who were you 'looking at?'" I ask, using my floaty quotation marks again.

"Well, it was Yugi" he says "But not in that way!" he jumps in before I can say anything.

I ponder this thought for a moment and then recall what happened earlier, just before the bell.

"Hey wait!" I exclaim, snapping my fingers.

"What?" Yami asks, startled.

"I spoke to Yugi earlier, I asked him why he wasn't speaking to you and he said I don't know anyone called Yami. What's that about?" I ask, staring him in the face.

"Well, it has something to do with me coming back to this world after the Ceremonial Duel, but what, well, I'll tell you another time as we're late enough for class as it is" he says, sliding me off of his knee as he uses the row of lockers to brace himself on as he stands.

"Are you going to be ok with that injury?" I ask.

"Yeh" he replies, pulling his long sleeve down as if that erases it and hides all the pain.

"Ok, but just one thing"

"What?" he asks.

"Does this mean my brother's quick to judge? I mean, he did mistake what you did when really you only look wishing he would remember you. I know this because I know you" I say, beaming as I walk away.

-----------------------

"I know this because I know you" I hear my younger brother say as I watch, arms crossed over chest as he walks away from that...that monster

I watch him walk my way and when he meets my eyes, it looks as though he doesn't know me anymore, or he hates me, which I'm sure he would never. Although with that look in his eyes who knows?

"Hey little bro" I say, rushing forward to grab his arm and try to talk to him.

"Morning Mr.Kabia" he says and walks away.

I bring my arm back and widen my eyes in pure horror. No-one calls me that other than those who work for me. I swing round to watch his petite figure recede down the corridor. What just happened?!

I sink down to my knees on the floor, my trademark sleeveless silver coat spreading around me on the floor in a half circle. I clutch my sides and hang my head letting my mess of brown hair fall around my face. It feels like someone just stabbed me a thousand times with a knife. I just stay there, longing for the rain to somehow break down the walls and wash away my pain.

I only lift my head slightly when I hear footsteps across the floor and that's when I begin to think that someone is going to use this against me at some point. But instead of someone shouting in my face all I feel is someone gently rubbing my shoulder blades.

"Hey, it will be ok" I hear a deep baritone voice whisper in my ear.

I lift my head to meet the deep crimson eyes of my ex. Wow, someone could get lost in those eyes. He passes me two pieces of ripped paper. Using shaking hands I piece them together and see a picture of me and Mokuba hugging and smiling at one another. I remember this photo. It was an amazing day.

"That boy loves you with all his little heart and he looks up to you as a role model" he says, smiling at me, although he doesn't look stable on his own two feet.

"You really think so?" I ask.

"Yeh" he replies. "Also th-"

Then his words suddenly cut off and I see him fall, I toss the photo to the side and lean forward to catch him.

"YAMI!" I scream as I hold him in my arms, then I feel the blood run through my fingertips.

I lift his arm and look at the cross just above the wrist. Looking at it closely I can see it's quite deep and it could have broke a vein.

"What was that shout about?" one of the teachers shouts down the corridor and then stops and stares, looking at two teenage boys together in each others arms and me crying.

"I'll call 911" the teacher says and runs off, then all I'm left with are the secrets of the rain's words.

--------------------------------------------------

Seto: Please tell me he's going to be ok!!!!

Yami: Wait, didn't she just make your brother hate you?!?!

Seto: Oh yeh, I'm gunna kill you for that!

*chase around the room*
