V. Coldness

The whiteboard was cleaner than my room on spring cleaning.

According to Ukyo's schedule, everyone is supposed to be busy today from morning to evening. While me on the other hand, had nothing to do from dawn to dusk. Amaya had something to discuss with the agency and she cleared my schedule for the day, it was a nice change of pace somehow -- but it still worries me of what they're going to discuss. About me, possibly.

"Imouto-chan!"

I haven't had the time to turn when a huge creature suddenly glomped me, I fell on my butt as it kissed the cold floor. I groaned, trying to get up but the weight above me is bone-crushing. The figure on top of me suddenly stood, looking a bit startled when he realized that I've fallen down in the process.

"I'm sorry! Here, get up." He stretched out a hand when he succesfully stand on his two feet, I took it desperately while trying to regain my balance, "did you bump your head? Is anything hurting?"

"No, I'm okay, Tsubaki." I held up a hand to tell me that I was fine, he doesn't look that convinced because his hands went to rubbed my head -- trying to find a bump. "What are y--hands off, I'm fine, really."

"But when a girl said she's fine it doesn't really mean that right?" He whined, trying to prove his point for being such a worrywart. "Azusa said that, right?"

The said person suddenly appeared from behind his twin (or maybe I just noticed his presence now?). He sighed in relief before giving Tsubaki's shoulder a good pinch that lasted about a few seconds and it must leave a mark because the white-haired male actually screeched.

"I'm sorry for this rascal brother of mine." Now, it was his turned to hold my arm while trying to find any cuts or bruises, "if you need any band-aids, I'm sure Masa-nii has tons of them stored somewhere in he---"

"Guys," I groaned, while saying the words slowly like teaching a newborn fawn how to walk, "I. am. fine. Stop worrying, okay? It was just a small fall."

"But he weights almost heavier than an elepha---"

"Hey!"

"--nt, it's normal to be worried."

I chuckled, "I guess so."

"Eh, wait. I thought you guys had work until late and right now it's --- noon? So why are you guys stranded here?" I raised a brow, Tsubaki broke down into a series of laughter while Azusa tried to contained his but escaped lamely as small whimpers, "what?"

"Well, we were supposed to do a recording session for today but the coach came late and wearing yesterday's clothes, by now I think we already knew what was happening. But the whole studio dared not to say a thing, but then the coach's wife came to the office searching for him but found him in that state! Oh, did I say kiss-marks all over his neck and clothes? So she went furious before she dragged him out of the building." Tsubaki explained while laughing like crazy, he waved a hand, gesturing Azusa to continue where he left off.

"---So the recording was delayed and we're back here." Azusa finished.

"Is that funny?"

"If you were there it was!"

"I admit, it was funny."

They answered in unison.

"Oh." I blinked, while watching the laughing Tsubaki with amused eyes, but then I rememered that I had something to be done. "Speaking of which, since you guys are practically free now, mind driving me somewhere? One of you?"

"I'll do it." Azusa decided before Tsubaki could speak up, the so-called grown-up pouted before turning around and probably going to his room like a child being called off in dinner. "Where to?"

I smirked, "You'll see."

I twiddled the hem of my sweater while humming to the song playing out of the radio. Azusa's eyes were focused on the street while eyeing the address showing on the little device. It was a coincidence that Azusa knew the place we're going to well, if not we would've probably be lost right now. Not long after, we stopped upon a place that I know well was my destination:

It was a cemetery.

"I think I got the address wrong, wait, let me che--"

"No," I shook my head, while slinging my purse on my shoulder. "This is the right place, um, can you unlock the door please?"

Without uttering another word, he clicked the button as the door clicked open. I walked out and when Azusa also opened the door to get out, I raised a hand to stop him. He stopped halfway.

"I think it'll be better if I go by myself," I tried to sound less-selfish even though I know I asked him to drive me here and order him all around, "You can go, explore or something. I'll be back in a bit."

He nodded, turning the other direction before locking the car with his keys. I sighed when he was out of sight and enter the cemetery on my own.

Scanning the vast surrounding, I immediately recognized where I'm heading to. It was under a large oak tree and flower beds, the aura was serene and calm -- just like him. It must've cost him a fortune to buy a place like that, but he had those fortune. I sighed when the warm wind hit my face. I don't know why but in this place I've always felt collected and unlike me. Maybe it was the wind.

I sat in front of the tombstone, clasping both of my hands together as memories started to flood through my head. It seeps from the edge of my toes to the tips of my hair. I winced.

"I saw you with another man!"

CRASH

"So what!? Another woman was clinging onto you! She's the one you brought that purse for wasn't it?"

CRASH

"How dare you!"

I was clinging hard on my sheets, trying so hard to block out the noises that static started to pierce through my eardrums like blades. The storm outside was not helping at all. Thunder flashing once in a while, creating a loud rumbling sound and a flash of bright light. But no matter how noisy it is, nothing could block my parents' voice. Salty tears trickled down my cheek, I could feel myself curling into a ball and quivering in somewhat a mixture of fear and anger.

"Stop shouting! Minoru is sleeping!"

"Aren't you the one shouting!?"

Everynight. Everytime. Everyday.

-- I was sick of it.

I was surprised that at this age I was able to understand. My mother was pretty and my father was powerful -- it was something like that. Some say it was fairy-tale like how a prince married a commoner like woman, but none of this sounded like a happy ending for me. My father was rich and held meaningless fortune on his hands while my mother was pretty and adored by others, they simply take what they want and give what they have. Nothing was based on love.

In fact, what is love?

It got people crazy, mad, and all over the place. If it was something beautiful, surely, it wouldn't end up as something like this.

Then, the door slammed cutting the voices out and also my train of thoughts.

Behind tight walls, I could still hear their voices radiating in anger, sadness, loneliness, and pain. Really, why not end everything?

I should really try to fix this, everyone deserves to be happy and loved -- is what most minds would think. But, with these child-like hands and a body that couldn't even reach past the highest shelf, what could I possibly do? Even if I tried to make it all better, there was nothing really.

Nothing to be fixed.

Sighing, I started pinching tiny leaves and dusting off dirts on the grave. He specifically said that he wanted a flower near he was placed to rest and white was his favorite color. Because white was clean and neat, something he loved opposite of what he got. Despite all the family metters we've been through, I never took sides, probably because I never cared which one of them was at fault. I was sent to a relative's place when they decided they were bored of keeping up with my childish instincts.

Then, they separated. More likely for the better.

While I left my old self and somehow ended up in the show business, posing for pictures in clothes I never thought I'd wear.

That's right. I left my old self:

"Amayuki-san?"

--behind.

"Pardon me?"

"You're Amayuki Minoru right? My brother's ex-girlfriend!"

* * *

"Then, if you hate it so much, I'll rename you." He gave me a sheepish smile, his hands were busy tangled in mine as we were laying in our favorite spot, "How 'bout it?"

"That's stupid."

"Alright! From today on, you're no longer Amayuki Minoru!"

He smiled, I barely looked at his kindness.

"Nice to meet you, Hoshino Rin."

And the countdown to my downfall, started.
